Summary: Old War Horse
Review: Let me say that although the Billy Zane character had no place in this movie (Civilians are NOT assigned to Marine Snipers!), Tom Berenger did a OUTSTANDING portrayal of a Marine Master Gunnery Sergeant. He had the looks, the lingo and the mannerisms down pat. My wife watched the movie and told me "There's You!. Except the wrong scope reticle pattern, the gear was correct. Great movie! I bought it.

Summary: Great Movie
Review: One of the best war movies ever. Love the indirect references to Hathcock. (i.e. Shot through the scope)

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Worthwhile and interesting.
Review: Since I did not expect an action-packed on-your-the-edge-of-your seat film, I was not disappointed with this movie.

I saw it as basically a character study, between an older, more experienced man (Tom Berenger), and a younger, inexperienced and proud man (Billy Zane). They are foisted together on a jungle mission, and while Zane's character is *supposed* to be the superior officer, he soon learns that he is out of his element. Berenger's character calls him "son" as he leads him through the jungle, being simultaniously irritated yet supportive over Zane's inexperience.

I found myself caring about these characters, and appreciating the contrast between them. While this film had flaws (the ending, while adequate, lacked a little "punch"), I still enjoyed the movie overall. The performances of both actors was good -- particularly Berenger, who does the "steely emotionless" thing quite well. Zane was also good at looking a little queazy and out of his element.

I found this movie to be a worthwhile viewing experience. I hear that "Sniper 2" has been filmed (Berenger reprising his role), so I am interested in seeing what Berenger's character is up to now.

Summary: Up in the Ranks
Review: The movie SNIPER, with Tom Berenger, is definately worth buying. I have taken the risk of buying this DVD movie, without ever seeing this movie before, and it turns out it was more than worth the risk.

I recommend this movie to anyone, from military buffs to the other audiences, if they are of appropriate age.

Summary: A good perspective of the Marine sniper's task.
Review: This movie does a great job of showing what it is like out there sniping. The acting could have been some what better. I still thing it is the best sniper movie out there.

Summary: One Shot, One Kill, One Awsome Movie
Review: This movie is awsome.Tom Berenger is a great sniper who takes a rookie(Billy Zane) sniper to kill a drug lord. The end is great I LOVE THIS MOVIE!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Excellent film but with a couple of drawbacks.
Review: This movie is overall very well done. Berenger puts in an amazing preformance. His character is cold and detached, but at the same time he questions why he stills goes into the jungle to kill. He is a tragic and flawed hero. Yet he is also likable in some ways. Billy Zane was the weaker link in the film, and that surprised me as I find Billy Zane to be a pretty good actor. The big let down is a total lack of digital sound. This is the type of movie that warrants 5.1. But that aside the movie is excellent and a very entertaining watch. It is still worth a buy.

Summary: This movie is the best
Review: This movie kicks butt. There is no better movie made yet, that shows how SNIPERS react in different situations. The SFX kicked butt, and the location was awesome. Tom Berenger, made the best Marine in this movie. His feelings for any outside world events were awesome, he kept his mind on his job, and even in the event of a compromised situation he kept on going. Billy Zane was all right as a sniper. If he would have kept his mind on his buisiness though, Berenger's character might have kept his finger. Over all GREAT MOVIE. I loved the gilly suit!

Summary: "Okay," as is, but could have been "magnificent."
Review: This not completely unpleasant diversion could have been a landmark film - if - it had been instead overtly made as the story of its OBVIOUS inspiration, Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Norman Hathcock II. Berenger delivers, but the script lets him down. Those knowledgable of Gunny Hathcock will immediately recognize the film's fictional retelling of actual events: the killing of the enemy sniper with a shot through his scope, the 4-day stalk across 2,000 yards of open country, the "Apache Woman" - all are represented in this film. The film that could have been, and I wish would have been, is the story of Gunny Hathcock. "Marine Sniper: 93 Confirmed Kills" by Charles Henderson is available right here on Amazon.com. Read the Henderson book, then watch the Berenger film, and you will KNOW Hathcock was the inspiration. Sadly, even unjustly, the film neither mentions nor credits Gunny Hathcock. (Also available at Amazon.com is Henderson's second work about Hathcock, "Silent Warrior : The Marine Sniper's Vietnam Story Continues.")

As the film stands, it is "okay." But it could have been so much more.
