Summary: Sphere
Review: Barry Levinson's sci fi thriller is a taut, suspensful film which underservedly got bad reviews when it was released. Sure, it has it's flaws, but the story (taken from Micheal Chricton's novel) is thought-provoking and provides for some seriously spooky moments, and like THE ABYSS, the claustraphobic feel racks up the tension. The star power of Dustin Hoffman and Samuel L. Jackson give the film gravitas, and Sharon Stone has one of her best roles here. CGI creations and downright freaky sea creatures are great. For the most part, the story consists of a series of extraordinary events, that, while fascinating, create an anti-climax at the end, which is somewhat dissapointing. It does have it's moments of suspense, if only the ending had worked to a fuller effect, then this would be a great film, instead of just a good one.

Summary: The good reviews must be generated by WB publicity dept
Review: I just read the book, which I found impossible to put down. It was no great piece of literature but a gripping page turner with enough scientific theory to give it credibility. The film is such a disapointment. It leaves out the most interesting and thought provoking material, provides little sense of the characters and or the mystery of the sphere. Instead it showcases a series of action sequences and melodramatic confrontations between the three stars. I guess this would be entertaining but the effects are second rate and nothing new. I know nothing about film making but kept thinking that the producers' budget must have been too limited to do this the right way. I don't see how anyone could have liked this movie.

Summary: Not Sure Why So Many People Hate This Movie
Review: A lot of people, including Ebert, gave this movie bad reviews saying it was a rip-off of Solaris. I haven't seen Solaris so I can't comment on that, but on its own, this movie is quite entertaining. It has its slow parts, but the tension builds over time and you get lots of atmosphere to go with it. The acting is as good as you would expect from these household names. I've read the book and in my opinion, this movie did a good job of following it for the most part. The DVD is a real treat since the video is crystal clear and the sound is very enveloping..... the water effects are very lifelike. This movie may not get much respect, but give it a try regardless.

Summary: "One of the best sci-fi's I've ever seen!"
Review: For some strange reason, movie viewers seem to be giving this movie bad reviews. Well, don't trust them because those people have not watched any movies and do not know what is good and bad. Sure, the beginning of the movie is incredibly boring and Sharon Stone was a horrible cast member but it wildly entertains with underwater thrills and a very devilish Samuel L. Jackson who has a very wicked twist in him which we can't see. Dustin Hoffman is as good as in every movie but...uh...uh..you know. Peter Coyote gives an exceptional performance, even when he gets sliced in half by a door during a fire and I was very happy that Queen Latifah was finally out of the movie when she got killed by the jellyfish. I forgot the other guy's name (I think he was in Sum of All Fears) but he was also exceptional. Of course, actresses like Hoffman, Jackson, and Stone cannot afford to die which is why they're the only ones who make it out alive. I hate those movies where the main character is always the perfect good guy and doesn't sacrifice himself for a better purpose.

The movie is about a spaceship that lands in the middle of the ocean about 300 years ago. What's strange is that there are still activies of life coming from this ship. Hoffman, Jackson, and Stone as well as Coyote, Latifah, and the other guy are sent to investigate. The first 30 minutes of the movie talk about the mission which is why it's really boring. But don't worry. It will soon pick up. The explorers find a magnificent gigantic golden ball shaped like a sphere. Whoever goes inside it gets his dreams to come true. However, the scientists soon find out that this is not a happy gift, it is a deadly one.

I suggest that you rent this movie before you buy it but trust me, you will be satisfied. Don't listen to the others. Go to your local movie store and science fiction section and take it. Now! You'll be at the edge of your seat. The best best best part of the movie is actually when Hoffman finds hundreds of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea books and figures out that it isn't Jerry, it's Harry. Also, I think this movie should be right in between PG-13 and R. It does not have any blood or language but it does have startling images like skeletons, bodies, and dead people floating around.

Summary: Stays Pretty True to the Book
Review: I liked the movie "Sphere" which was based on the wonderful novel by Mr. Michael Crichton. It is about a group of scientists who go underwater to study a spaceship that 'crashed' there. Inside the ship they find an odd sphere. Weird stuff then starts to happen.

This movie could of been a lot better. They make the story kind of cheesy. Except it is a very good story on how people's minds work. The start of the movie starts out great but the movie makers screwed up the last 20 minutes. They also turned a great ending into a mediocre one that is just plain stupid.

My suggestion is to read the great book first and then watch the movie. If you don't have time to read the book then watch the movie. "Sphere" is too good a thing to pass up. I give the movie four stars.

Summary: Good Book Turned into a Bad Film.
Review: The reasons that Sphere turned out to be a bad film are these;1. Levinson's incorenent direction. He certainly never read the book or tried to be faithful to it.2. Sharon Stone should never have been cast in this movie, her performance is terrible.3. the effects, music score, and film sets all look and feel second rate. THEY MUST HAVE SLASHED THE MOVIE'S BUDGET. End result; READ THE BOOK AND FORGET THIS FILM.

Summary: Why doesn¿t anyone like this movie?
Review: In my opinioin this is the best sci-fi horror movie ever. It has a great story in which an alien space ship crashes in the ocean and the most unlikely characters get sent to investigate. There's some of the best acting around with hoffman as the main character. He plays as a shrink and darn doesn he do a good job. There's also that guy who plays as one of the council members in Episode:1.

I don't want to get in-depth with the story because it would ruin it for you but bieleve me, This is a movie you don't want to pass up (plus It's 2 hours long!)

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Yes, I really did like it!
Review: I have not met too many people who really like this movie, but I am one of them. First of all, I have not read the book, and a movie is never as good as the book upon which it is based. Having said that, I enjoyed the overall premise of the movie. Some people have said the the the premise was a big letdown, but I think that if you stick with this movie, you will not be sorry.
