Summary: What do you do when you run out of ideas? Make no more films
Review: Fourth and Final Superman movie that shows the Man of Steel trying to rid the world of nuclear weapons. It might have been a good idea on the script but the movie itself is a big mess of second rate special effects.Director Sidney J. Furie at least tried to make the movie better then the previous two by Richard Lester, and it is slightly better then those, but only slightly. The first Superman movie done by Richard Donner is still the best Superman movie to date. If Superman Lives, is ever made, it will have to be quite an exceptional movie. In an interesting side note to the film, although John Williams did not return to score any of the sequals, Star Trek composer Alexander Courage did score the music for this film.

Summary: 4 or 5 stars? What are you people thinking?
Review: The first time I watched this movie, I couldn't believe how badit was. The special effects on this movie was just ... poor to begin with, adding to the vague story line and special "winner" moments from the previous Superman movies implemented again into this 4th Superman installment. (i.e. Lois speaks french, Superman/Lois flying scene, Luthor in jail, Clark with Krypton crystal, etc.) It made it a bad experience. There are numerous scenes in the movie that makes the climax too predictable to enjoy. For starters, how does Lenny, (Lex Luthor's nephew) get into the prison grounds in the first place, pretending to have lost his way? How did Lenny and Luthor get away with a strand of Superman's hair during Museum hours in broad daylight? Why does Lois tell Clark all her deep feelings for Superman? And Finally, how can Lucy breathe in space when she's taken by Nuclear Man? All these scenes were predictable from one to the next. Don't get me wrong. I AM a HUGE Superman fan as I grew up watching the movies, reading the comics. I collect Superman memorabilia and I enjoy the first 3 Superman installments but unless Superman 4 is reissued with the original footage (which was previously left out) ,put back in with remastering, I will not be changing my mind on this movie. It may be good for a rent but not worth buying.

Summary: Superman 4 was the best one in the series
Review: I loved it. Sure, the special effects were not as good as the first 2 but thats because of the limited budget. Atleast this film had heart unlike Superman 3 which stinks.

Has anyone seen the 134 minute version ? If you have, please tell us in detail about the extra 45 minutes thats missing.

Summary: The Best of the bunch!
Review: Superman 4 didn't have the best of graphics, but it had a simple, easy-to-follow plot. It was more exciting than the other Superman's, and the acting was superb. I think kids would like this the best because you see a lot more superman in this movie. It was very good movie

Summary: Awful. Simply...awful.
Review: You would be better off to watch two hours of someone clipping their toenails than to lay down money for this stinking excuse for entertainment. Get a load of the special effects -- hoo ha! I've seen better in 50's sci-fi movies. You won't believe a man can fly after sitting through this Super-mistake. Even Christopher Reeve distances himself from this in interviews.

Summary: Superdrupper-man,Sequel No.4 is A Blooper!
Review: Agree with Leonard Maltin's film review on the Quest For Peace, story and regular cast are good as usual they give heart to a soul-ness production so thumbs up for a timeley-nuclear-disarmenment-theme and Chris Reeve & Margo Kidder for the key performances, shame Gene Hackman's terriffic Luthor is dropped on the cutting-room floor. SPFX is a major let-down as is the more than half-hour edited from this film, Fun for the little-kid's though comic-book violence,my small nephews like it, as a Supe's fan I wish only for a restored version of this heavily-edited movie. For Supe's excellence seek out Superman I & II ONLY!

Summary: THE ABSOLUTE BEST OF THE SERIES!
Review: This is the first Superman film that I ever saw and I would have to say that it's my favorite, despite the fact that almost no one likes it. The plot is simple, fast paced, and enjoyable. Superman doing his bit for world peace by destroying all nuclear weapons gives Lex Luthor a chance to destroy his enemy by taking Superman's DNA and mutating it to create a NuclearMan who feeds off the sun's energy. SFX are crude compared to the first 3 films, but they still work. The only reason why I'll always like this film is that for once Superman faces an enemy that is better than he is! With firey beams, sharp nails, and energy sparks on his body, NuclearMan is the scariest villain of them all! With an awesome ending, SUPERMAN 4 is the best of them all!

Summary: Mark Pillow- where art thou?
Review: Without a doubt the thing that separates this movie from being just a lame sequel to one that is just ABSYMAL has to be the performance of Mark Pillow as "Nuclear Man." His cheesy hair, costume, and grunting combined with dialogue like, "Give me the girl, or I'll hurt people," helped make Superman IV a howler for the ages. Mark Pillow WAS one bad actor! I say "WAS" because the man has not acted in a movie since, and just watching him in Superman IV is reason enough to understand why. Pillow's performance combined with the cheesy special effects, a heavy-handed plot full of holes, and a cast that just seems to be going through the motions helped make Superman IV one of the WORST movies of the '80s. (How can anyone give this movie 4-5 stars? Do they really believe that a film with Mark Pillow as the villian should be ranked at the level of a CITIZEN KANE or a SCHINDLER'S LIST or, even, the original SUPERMAN and SUPERMAN II?)

Summary: A candidate for the worst film ever made.....
Review: Not only is it the worst film of the series, it also manages to top any list of the most inane pictures ever released. For a mid-1980s film, the special-effects are bargain-basement bad, especially the scenes on the moon. The message of peace and the end of nuclear proliferation is both heavy-handed and obvious, qualities which tend to diminish any impact it might have intended. All involved should be ashamed of this inferior product, which was clearly rushed into release without thought for script or direction. The best thing Christopher Reeve ever did was publicly apologize for this atrocious mess.

Summary: Superman IV is great!
Review: I liked this movie but I think the uncut version is alot better than the 89 minute version. The uncut version should of been re-released in theaters instead of having it on TV. It looked like Christopher Reeve didn't seem to be happy in this film neither did the other actors. I guess the only actor that was happy was Jon Cryer. I think this fourth series of the Superman film is good. Did anyone hear that they are coming out with a new Superman movie? If anyone heard about it Christopher Reeve isn't playing Superman in the movie since he is paralyzed but I do beleive that Nicolas Cage might be playing in the role of Superman. I also heard that Tim Burton is directing it. The new Superman is going to be called "Superman Lives" but they might not make this fifth sequel, I don't know why.
