Summary: Takes mountain-climbing to new lows
Review: The first scene in this film is very good - great in fact. What ensues is a 1 and a half hour yawn filled with impossible stunts, stereotypical characters we've seen a thousand times, laughable plot lines, and relatively poor CGI effects.

This is one of those films that make me shake my head and wonder how reasonably intelligent people can like it. Aside from the opening scene, I cannot name one good thing about the movie. It is entirely unbelievable, and I'm not just talking about the stunts. The plots were terrible, illogical, and full of holes. (i.e... So they just discovered the nitroglycerine leaks from its tanks. Oh, and they just figured out that it explodes in sunlight. And they found out right as they're about to enter sunlight, even though they've been hiking for a day and a half already. But wait - the previous nitroglycerine explosions have killed anyone within 300 hundred yards and caused massive avalanches, but they're going to simply use it to save the trapped climbers. Terrible.)

The above is only one example out of many. I would say that if you can turn off your brain for a couple hours you might enjoy it, but for that to happen there would need to be good action scenes and special effects. Unfortunately there are not. I wish I knew more about how movies are made so I could understand how complete drivel like this hits the theaters.

Summary: This Movie Rocks!!!!!!
Review: This is the ultimate in cliffhanger/action movies. If you are a fan of the genre, this movie is for you. The plot is predictable (i.e. everything that you would expect to happen in a movie like this does happen), but that's what makes it so much fun. This is the type of movie where you invite a group of friends over, order a pizza and a lot of pop, and have rip-snorting good time over.

Summary: It's all wrong
Review: This was supposed to be a great action movie. The action scenes are great, I'll watch them again and again. It's the "personal dramas" that throw Vertical Limit into the trash. What could've been a nice action movie sank for its pretention of being more than this. Action movies should be about action, period. I thought the director had learned this on Goldeneye, one of the best Bond movies. The DVD looks great, sounds great, has valuable extras. The movie has nice action scenes but boring dramas and some weak acting. I found the action scenes worth it and don't regret it. Just wanted more of it.

Summary: CG Effects are Starting to take their Toll
Review: This is really not a bad movie. However, with the proliferation of CG effects one action film is starting to look like the next one and the next and so on and so forth. I think we are seeing the beginning of a CG domino effect. We are losing the reality base for action films. You know that some of these stunts and camera angles are just impossible. The audience is more intelligent than the filmmakers give us credit for. Subconsciously we know many of the visuals are just not possible no matter how real the filmmakers try to make them. In the good old days before computer animated effects, there was a suspension of disbelief. We accepted what the filmmakers were trying to convey visually whether it looked absolutely real or not. Unfortunately this film has a phony look about it. Robin Tunney and Bill Paxton are trapped in a below freezing crevasse, yet they have no condensation of exhaled breath. The CG effects guys must have overlooked that one. However this film does have one of James Newton Howards' best scores even though he owes a lot of inspiration from Jerry Goldsmith.

Summary: If mountain climbing isn't exciting enough for you?
Review: The first 12 minutes of this movie show great promise. It made me think that this was going to be a thrilling movie about mountain climbing. It was believable, and technically within the realms of possibility. Unfortunately, the movie goes rapidly downhill from there. Chris O'Donnell is actually pretty good (which is surprising for two reasons...the dismal script (do you really think there was a script?), and.........you know. But even an appearance by Scott Glenn, in a believable role, can't save this movie.

What's wrong with it? It's ludicrous! I new it when I was watching it, and I would have known it more years ago than I care to think about, when I was 15, and just read Annapurna, my first encounter with mountain climbing lore. I learned that mountain climbing is pretty exciting stuff. This movie isn't.

I'd say more, but I don't want to spoil it for you.

Summary: ACTION PACKED NO-BRAINER!
Review: "Cliffhanger" in the snow? You call it. Lots of thrills (and spills) in this flick. Very little substance but will keep you on the edge of your seat in a few instances. Good flick for Tunney fans...

Summary: Vertical Limit Won't let you down
Review: This is probably the best movie I have seen all year. It's obviously very under rated. This movie has it all. I thought the story line was very well thought out and the action was great. This is one movie that you will get immersed in and the time will fly. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes action.

Summary: High altitude tension, fear and adventure!
Review: After Peter Garrett (Chris O'Donnell) watches his father die in a terrible climbing accident he swears never to climb again. That is untill his sister Annie (Robin Tunney) and Elliot (Bill Paxton) become stranded on K2, the worlds most deadly peak. Peter assembles a six man team including Montgomery Wick (Scott Glen) for a rescue opperation.

Of all the biggest climbing movies (Everest, Cliffhanger, etc.) this is the best of them. The opening scene gives you a taste of how tense the rest of this movie is going to be. These climbers seem to get in one hair-raising situation after the other. This movie has a great cast and a decent plot for this type of flick and serves up twist after twist. This movie is worth renting if you have not seen it.

For a one disk special edition its loaded with features. It contains several featurettes, talent files and trailers. The DVD is presented in widescreen format and DD 5.1 surround.

Summary: A Very Exciting Film with Great Audio, Video, and Extras
Review: Besides being an excellent HT demo DVD, this is a very satisfying and exciting movie. If you have a fear of heights, this is great torture material as the shots are very powerful on the big screen! The EXTRAS on the DVD were perfect for this movie and we found the National Geographic Extra on K2 to be perfect after wacthing this movie with a bunch of other people. All around a very solid DVD and an exciting movie.
