Summary: THE EDGE OF MY SEAT
Review: I really have a hard time understanding why viewers want every movie they see to have a Tennessee Williams screenplay; a Steven Spielberg or Orson Welles director, and a cast headed by Meryl Streep or Jack Nicholson. Come on, people. This movie had me on the edge of my seat several times, and that's something considering such banal "thrillers" as "Swordfish" or "The Blair Witch Project." WE cared about the main characters; WE hated nasty Mr. Bill Patton, doing the kind of roles that got him leading man roles later; and the stunning photography; and the beautiful Izabella Scorupco, the funny Steve LeMarquand and Ben Mendelsohn. WE DID leave our credibility at the door because we just wanted a nerve-wracking mountain climbing movie. So there! IT'S A GREAT MOVIE. WE LOVED IT!

Summary: how BAD is this film?!
Review: I have to agree with the majority of comments on here which say that this film is shockingly clichéd.Poor effects, obvious chroma-keying, laughable plot, etc. The opening sequence of this reminded me of the opening sequence of MI:2, except John Woo`s was real - and MI:2 wasn`t even a climbing movie! In that same opening section, there is the most blatantly fake "eagle" I have ever seen... feathers dangling of it, wings like planks of wood, etc.. I couldn`t stop laughing when I saw it, and I actually though this movie was going to be a spoof.......! Don`t buy it!

Summary: A Breathtaking Waste of Time
Review: It's been a long time since I've felt this strongly about a film, good or bad, and it's a rare day when I decide to write a review on Amazon about it. I actually had a friend of mine tell me it was the worst movie ever, and I went in hoping to prove him wrong. Vertical Limit, however, stirred me to action. This has got to be the most predictible, cliche movie since, well, I don't know -- maybe ever. Five minutes into the film, shortly after the overdramatic intro, I knew the identities of the people who were going to survive at the end of the film. Twenty minutes into the film, I could tell you how they were all going to die. The film is one series of unbelievable circumstances and coincidences after another, without a break for a fresh breath of reality. The writer/director of this movie took no pains to create any sort of believability -- it's almost as though they took some key terms and concepts and didn't actually talk to anybody who'd ever climbed a mountain. While that probably isn't true, very little about this film makes any sense at all. Paxson, Glenn, Tunney and O'Donnell are all talented actors, but why they signed up for this, I have no idea. None of the characters manage to develop any sort of emotional attachment at all. I ended up rooting for the villain (why is there always a villain in mountain climbing movies?) at the end just to see something --ANYTHING -- that I wasn't expecting. Martin Campbell has made a number of mediocre to good action flicks in GoldenEye, No Escape and the Mask of Zorro. He must've been badly in need of a paycheck or a huge kickback from R.E.I. I promised myself to say one good thing about the film, and the only thing I can be honest about is that the scenery is gorgeous. Had I seen it on the big screen, there would have been scenes that are simply breathtaking. As it is, however, I'm thrilled I didn't see it on the big screen, because I would have been ill that I had spent money on it. Overall, the movie is only worth watching if you want to tell your friends how bad it is. I've liked some pretty crummy action movies in my time (Cliffhanger, Armageddon, Die Hard 2, etc.) but I just can't deal with this one. 0 stars out of 5, if that were possible.

Summary: Vertical Limit
Review: Chris O'Donnell plays a character whose father is on a mountain-climbing trip with his son and daughter. .... She becomes a famous mountain climber and agrees to go on a climbing trip with a wealthy Texas businessman who wants to promote his new airline. Driven by the man's greed, the climbing party continues up the face of the mountain despite warnings of severe weather. The sister, played by Robin Tunney, falls into a huge crevice and O'Donnell's character launches a search party. This movie has beautiful scenery and death-defying climbing scenes surrounding an extemely thin plot. Check your credibility meter at the door because this one stretches the situations to the limit!

Summary: Vertical Limit is a Fake Movie
Review: Completely fake. So many things happened in that movie that would not happen in real climbing. For example, in the begining, when they were rock climbing and then fell, the cams probably wouldn't have fallen out, because those things could probably hold 1,000 pounds. Also, there wouldn't be grass at K2 basecamp,too. Another thing, is that how could they expect to climb from basecamp to the summit in less than a week with no acclimation at all? Also, a climbing leader wouldn't be foolish enough to continue to the summit after getting news of a storm approaching. And, if they REALLY wanted to get to the summit, they should have packed bottled oxygen. Also, climbing rope is really strong, and wouldn't have been cut that easily. This movie is a true disgrace to climbing, and if you want to see some real stuff, go see that IMAX thing.

Summary: Great action movie for men and woemn
Review: This was a great video! The DVD has many features the video cassette does not. If you are a climber or mountaineer you ight not be able to get past some technical errors and dramatic effect scenes but the story is great and the acting good. The scenery is breathtaking. My wife really liked this one, too! It has some thought-provoking discussions such as would you/should you risk your life to try to save someone even if the chances are remote that you can be successful?

Summary: Long and gross some parts were good though.
Review: My family and I went to the theaters to see it and none of us thought much of it. But some parts in this movie were intense and breathtaking. I would probably watch it again. But it's your choice! Although I would not recommend it to children under 10.

Summary: Unrealistic Scenes, but entertaining
Review: I love alpine climbing but know from experience that a keg party at K2 Basecamp is 100% unlikely. Also, they show the team climbing from basecamp to 26,000 feet with minimal clothing on? all. They speak nothing of the need to acclimatize the higher you go. It almost seems that in the movie, they climb from basecamp to 26,000 feet in one day without acclimatizing. Sure ok whatever! They must be related to superman. From a climber's perspective it's 90% fake, but from a entertainment perpective, it was fun to watch. The avalanche scenes were mostly realistic less the explosives they carried up there on their backs. The ice climbing scenes were nice! Makes me wish I was better at that myself! I will say that the only realistic high level theme was the stupid decision which was made to go HIGHER even though basecamp staff and the climber leader said a bad storm is coming in. A typical scenario of 'money' bullying around common sense, a climber leader and typical egotistical rich clients/climbers not entrusting in there basecamp people whom are always seeing things from a safety's point of view. And you wonder why 8 died on Mt. Everest in one day back in 1996. Climbers need to understand that the mountains hold the mastercard and if you see the signs of bad weather high up, you better turn around fast or pay the price. Well there's my 2 cents worth!

Summary: I wonder how many disasters we can fit in one movie...
Review: I think that there are more disasters in this one movie than there have ever been in climbing history. But even though it's completely unrealistic, the filming was very well done and, overall, it didn't turn out bad at all. I don't think I'd buy it, but it's worth seeing at least once.

Review: There seems to be some confusion. It seems that some of the viewers thought this was suppose to be a documentary. If that's what you were looking for, try the IMAX film Everest. For an action packed evening of pure ENTERTAINMENT this was a great MOVIE.
