Summary: worth a second look (believe it or not)
Review: When I first wrote this review which was pretty much negative, it had been 5 years since I saw Cool World. I watched it for the second time last week and there is something about this "sleazy cousin of Who Framed Roger Rabbit" as a previous reviewer put it that for some reason holds a bit of my interst. Cool World could probably be described as one of the not-so-great movies that features the interaction of cartoons and real people. Not only is the plot weak, it has a bit of a naughty side to it. Still, there is something about Cool World that make me want to possibly see it a third time. For one thing, Kim Basinger makes a sexy cartoon character. Another thing is that I have always favored and been fascinated by movies that put cartoons and real people together such as Bednobs and Broomsticks, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and Space Jam just to name a few. However, Cool World is definately not a movie that I would go out and buy. So what I'm saying is that if Cool World comes on television I would suggest giving it a look but I wouldn't suggest spending money to rent it unless you just feel you have to see it. Of course, if you compare Cool World to Who Framed Roger Rabbit as many reviewers have done, you will be disappointed. Cool World is only worth 2.5 stars at most but I'll give it the other half star just to be nice. Word of caution to parents; this movie is rated PG-13 for a good reason and should not be viewed by children under 13 or by children even a couple years older than 13 as far as I'm concerned.

Summary: Great! Truly cool.
Review: Wow! This movie is cool! It's like Japanese Anime, but made by Americans! Rare to see a GOOD animation done by Americans. If you like Anime, you need this! Not the same in a sense, but has more the "adult" thrill! A must have!

Summary: Frightening and disturbing
Review: You cannot judge this movie by conventional standards. This is not meant to be Roger Rabbit for adults, it is not meant to be Citizen Kane, it is not meant to be Wierd Science. It is meant to be a completely different genre all by itself, and must be judged as such.

This movie scares me. Not in the sense of "it scares me that anyone would make a movie this bad," but more in the Blair Witch Project kind of scary. What it lacks in plot and scripting, it makes up for in atmosphere and creepiness. The "wooden nickels" scene is an example of this; some guy throws a handful of wooden nickels to some innocent kids, and the nickels proceed to open their mouths and devour the unsuspecting children. It's this kind of random, disturbing event that makes Cool World worth watching. This is a wierd movie for when you need to go on a major acid trip but you don't want to actually put drugs into your system. It is the movie to watch when you want to leave all reality and morality behind and think about what could happen if we could interact with cartoon characters in a cartoon world that, unlike the "toontown" of Roger Rabbit, resembles our own world much more closely than we'd like to think.
