Summary: Roger Rabbit, plus sex, minus any entertainment value.
Review: How do movies this bad get made? Cool World isn't the worst movie I've ever seen, but it's certainly on my ten worst list. (It might not be if I could remember the titles of the copyright-expired, black and white horror movies I watched as a kid, but it's still incredibly bad.) It's even more surprising that such a bad movie could be made because animation requires a great deal of scripting, compared to live action that can be filmed while the script is being re-written or even without a script. It's not even "so bad it's good", it's just plain bad.

The best thing about the movie is the basic idea: What if real people could have sex with cartoon characters? That's not even all that great an idea, but the movie is all downhill from there.

The plot is a muddle. The main characters are a live-action man and a cartoon woman. He finds her attractive, but knows something bad (who knows what?) will happen if a person has sex with a cartoon. What? If they explained, I don't remember. Why? I'm sure that was never even hinted at. Of course they go ahead and have sex anyway (in a way that's OK for the movie's mild age rating). Then bad stuff happens, and various characters try to resolve the damage.

That story is pretty dumb, but it might have made at least enough sense to be an entertaining movie if we had been given some ideas of the rules of the world where it intersects with the cartoon world. In Roger Rabbit, we knew that nothing can truly hurt a cartoon character except "the dip", a solvent that was rather nasty to real people too. In Cool World, there's no sense that any laws of cartoon physics apply from one scene to the next. Nothing in the entire movie really makes sense.

The animation quality wasn't entirely bad, but it wasn't anything special either. Saturday morning cartoons look cheap, but that's because they're low budget. Cool World showed signs of a big budget gone to waste. I could see the money in the animation, but the animation was good craftsmanship with no creative vision. It was like trying to find a plot in an animator's portfolio video.

The live action acting wasn't good either. I can't tell if they were just acting poorly, were directed poorly, or just had such a hopeless script that no acting could save it. Whatever the reason, the live action was just as bad.

Bakshi made at least one good movie, Wizards, so we know he can do it. Why doesn't he?

Shame on me for wasting my money (and time I could have spent watching a good movie) to see this during its theatrical run. Even renting it on tape is too much to pay. Don't even think of wasting your money to *buy* it. It just encourages the movie industry to make more terrible movies.

Summary: Subliminal
Review: I can understand everyone else's opinions about this movie...
true, the script was a little messy...true the animation interaction with live action was quickly done...but all that is beside the greatness of this film, this movie remains one of my favorite movies of all time. WHY?

Because this movie is much more than what it is...obviously there are hidden messages/images in this film...especially in the ending when Holli picks up the "spike" on top of the tower in the real Las Vegas. The title "Cool World" is meant to be a sarcastic quotation. Holli seems to portray evil in the most appealing way. There is a lot of evil going on in the backround and foreground in this film throughout. Temptation (I believe) is the main subject, but there are other subjects tackled in the movie as well.

If you have only seen this movie once...it deserves a second look...and if you still don't get the message, then I can only say that "Cool World" is a reflection of who people really are, and it is ironic that so many people seem to hate this film. You simply cannot compare this to "Who Framed..." that film was a typical disney flick...Cool World is a satire of our society.

Kim Basinger's cocky acting as the real Holli, was done on purpose (I believe). Because it shows what would happen when you take someone such as a cartoon charater out of it's own environment. Kim Basinger pulled that off really well, she was supposed to appear more animated then the doodle Holli.

I don't even believe Holli is really a doodle...and if she is then obviously she may be the 'demon' of Cool World, besides all she does is use people throughout this picture...and whenever she is around...evil is in full effect...and when she's put in her place at the end...Cool World's scenery has changed a bit.

I'll leave the rest of this stuff to your own imaginations...I won't spoil it, cause there is much more in this flick. Cool World is a very complex film, and seems like it was written as a puzzle for people to figure out later on. Every time I watch it I noticed something about it that I didn't notice before. The themes in this film are very depressing, dark and gothic and a little to real, so I would not reccomend this picture to children; and I believe it was not intended for children. Cool World deserved better for sure. Highly mis-understood.

Summary: The worst movie I've ever seen...
Review: I don't want to waste too much time on this review, but the fact that this turkey is averaging three stars is ridiculous. This is one of only two movies that I have ever seen that I actually wish I had gotten up and left halfway through...I kept holding on, hoping, hoping, hoping that it would redeem itself, and it just kept getting worse...As another reviewer pointed out, this isn't even campy-funny. It's just horrid, horrid, horrid.

Summary: Terrible, terrible
Review: I finally got around to seeing Cool World. I wasn't expecting much (heard all the bad reviews when it was released), so I guess I was not disappointed. Cool World is terrible. It's not even "good-terrible" in a campy, kitchsy sort of way. It's a miracle that it didn't kill the careers of Pitt, Basinger or Byrne.

Summary: The Coolest Movie
Review: I love this movie, I have been looking all over for it. Every time I want to record it from tv I have a tape it's not on, then they show it and I don't have a tape. This is one of my favorite movies, I just love the ending. I am so happy that I have finally found it, it is the best movie of 92. I can't wait to see it again, I haven't seen this movie in about 4years and I have been looking for it. I am glad to see that it exists and it is on video, hopefully it will come to dvd also.

Summary: An Interesting Movie to Watch
Review: I rather liked this movie. Despite some animation/real life scenes where both sides mixed and just didn't fit, it is a good movie to watch. I think it is equal, if not better than Roger Rabbit. Cool World is a twisted, Toon Town where chaos happens all around and an eyelid is never battered. A good escape from reality.
The animation is fantastic, and Brad Pitt does very well considering he was acting on his own most of the time.
Kim Basinger spoils the climax with her poor acting as a human. She's better left as a cartoon.
The music is fantastic and suits the scenes well. Cool World is in a category of its own and a much different movie to watch then most would expect.

5 stars for the animation and sound track. Minus a star for allowing Kim Basinger a role in the movie.

Summary: for teens only
Review: I was never aloud to watch this movie when I was younger, and for good reason. This movie would only be good for people who know curse words and know about sex. It is no childs movie. All in all it was a very good movie to watch. The plot is funny, and the characters are very amusing. If you watch it you should like it.

Summary: Bakshi makes another liveactionanimation film, of vapidness
Review: I've seen his live-action/animation film "Coonskin", and that was great. Now that I saw "Cool World", I'm dissapointed. This film is the worst 4/10 film I ever rated. I don't call it a Roger Rabbit rip-off (I'm wondering why people are, but it's not, just because it is also live-action and animated doesn't mean we call it a rip-off [did we call Roger Rabbit a rip-off of Coonskin or other live-action/animated films before RR...hmmm!!??]) The artwork is nice and bizzare, but that is one of the few merits this film has, but the animation bleeds together horribly with the live-action (for example, when Brad Pitt put his arm around Lonnete, he looked as though he put his arm around a living card-board cut-out.) The soundtrack has a 4/5 merit, but that's the only other merit. The plot is horrible, I dunno why certain people actually like this plot. This film deserved to flop in the Box-Office. The dialoge is fairly weak as well. If you are going to buy this film, DON'T. Don't even rent it! Just buy the soundtrack and you'll live happily ever after away from this film.

Summary: I've seen worse!!!
Review: I've seen worse!!! I think that this movie is trying to somewhat copy the fantastic movie "Who framed Roger Rabbit?"
