Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Too much action, too little suspense
Review: I am giving this 2 stars, one for its attention-grabbing effect (in the beginning) and one for the always fine acting of Leelee Sobieski. If you're looking for a genuinely suspenseful road chase flick, rent Speilberg's "Duel" and I guarantee it will leave a more unsettling impression. This is mostly reccommended for non-stop action seekers who don't demand a plausible story. Sure, the idea of a teenage prank gone awry is indeed a good one but when it's tainted by ridiculous situations and very little creeping menace, well, I must allow myself to be disappointed. If this lonely loser trucker guy was THAT offended by a harmless prank, why not get even in a similar manner instead of ripping someone's jaw out (who obviously meant no harm) and crashing through an ice truck, killing someone who wasn't even involved?? What point was he trying to make I wonder? To somehow NOT be a teenager who plays a harmless joke once in a while? How did he even know how and where to follow the 2 guys and was his life so uninvolving that he'd waste all that time on a pair of silly teenagers? This film could've been better and more believable had some of the unnecessary happenings been omitted and oh, the two guys been somewhat devastated after almost getting smashed into tiny pieces instead of carrying on like they hadn't a care in the world. Worst line in the movie: "I was only playing with you" "Well (chuckle), I'm only playing with you". Come on? Oh, and the way the trucker called out "Candycane" sounded more like a perverted loser (which I guess he was) than something to be feared. The stalker's purpose in "Duel" wasn't revealed but at least he retained an air of mystery. This guy was obviously some kind of monster who just HAPPENED to lose control only when teased by two mere teenage boys? Whatever.

Summary: Good road-movie thriller
Review: This is an interesting movie. The actors are really doing great, in that they manage to create the perfect atmosphere for this kind of movie. Great job !! This is also a good Leelee Sobieski movie, though maybe not her best. Anyway, the movie is still great. Don't bother why the two brothers get this stupid idea at the beginning, just enjoy the intrigue. It is also an original story and you should not wish it to happen to anybody; it must take a long time to recover from such a motel nightmare !!

Summary: Could be better, could be worse
Review: I remember seeing the ads for this movie when it was in theaters, and it looked a lot like your basic formula slasher-thriller. And for the most part, it is. But to give the director credit, it does a good job of working the formula, so it is still interesting.

The story begins with Lewis, a SoCal college kid who's getting ready to fly home to New Jersey for summer break. When he calls an old friend who he's had a crush on for years to find out she dumped her boyfriend and now has now way to get home from her college in Colorado, he sells his air ticket to make a down payment on a clunker car. Shortly, when his parents find out he's driving instead of flying, Mom taps him to pick up his older brother, a loud-mouthed, immature jerk who's in jail in Salt Lake City, and who is a character so often required in movies like this. Along the way, the older brother gets a CB radio and starts playing jokes over the airwaves. When he convinces a driver by the handle of Rusty Nail to meet a non-existent woman in a motel room, Rusty Nail doesn't find the prank funny, and chases the duo across country in his big rig, making their life hell.

The movie reminded me a lot of the recently released "Jeepers Creepers", also about two siblings being chased on the road by a homicidal maniac. The difference is, Jeepers Creepers stunk, this one is actually pretty good. I also liked the fact that instead of being some other-wordly demonic killer, Rusty Nail is just a human being, a trucker, albeit with a loose screw.

The body count is considerably low, there isn't a tremendous amount of blood, and there's not even a lot of profanity. Mostly the director paints on the canvas that is our mind -- we never see Rusty Nail, we only hear his voice, and much of his killing takes place off screen. It's a very cerebral film.

One thing I still haven't figured out is Leelee Sobieski's role in this movie. She got top billing, but except for the phone call at the beginning , she's only talked about until the boys finally pick her up halfway through the movie. Even then, her character simply didn't add a whole lot -- the movie still mostly focuses on the two brothers and their run from Rusty Nail. Leelee is attractive enough -- she could play Helen Hunt ten years ago with no problem -- and I didn't get the impression that she's a bad actress, but her character was flat and boring, and brought little to the movie even when she is on screen.

Summary: Great
Review: Joy ride was great! It had so many moments were you wanted to shout "NO! DON"T DO THAT!!!" without even noticing you shiver. There are some parts were you giggle a little. Like were the boys go into the diner naked. I put this on my wish list beacause when I rented it I watched it over and over again. It leaves you at the edge of your seat. Finally at the end everything seems to fall into place. But there is still one thing on your mind: and that is Does Rusty try to get them again?
I'll have to see if they make sequal. I'm only giving it four
stars beacause in the begining of the first 25 minutes of the movie you don't really feel any suspense.

Summary: Very Suspenseful, Awesome DVD Features!
Review: I will admit that I went into the film expecting to be disappointed, but I ended up enjoying the ride. The villain, Rusty Nails, is truly creepy and his pursuit of the main characters stressed me out to the very end. The premise of the film is much like all the roadside thrillers (The Hitcher being the most famous). Psycho killer stalks young prey down the lonely highway. This time, the killer is savage and angry. There is something more terrifying when you understand why he is going after these people and what he does to the first victim is absolutely disturbing.

Paul Walker and Steve Zahn are terrific. Paul Walker has a killer smile. Steve Zahn is wonderful as his delinquent brother. And they both get naked. Adding to the suspense is Leelee Sobieski. The fact that she is innocent and all this, but becomes a target none-the-less really sucks in the audience. This is a great suspenseful film!

Now the DVD is an added plus. Apart from the usual special features, this includes an option to watch the original version of the film. Halfway through the movie, you can set it up for an icon to appear. This icon will take you through an alternate version of the film! An enitrely different half hour ride! If you've already seen the film and liked it, get the DVD! If you enjoyed films like The Hitcher or Jeepers Creepers, then this is a must-have for your collection.

Summary: Cliche, but with one BIG redeeming virtue.
Review: Joy Ride begins with some of today's best young actors playing interesting characters in interesting situations. You're led to believe it will be a sort of "buddy" movie, as two slightly estranged brothers must take a car trip together, thus getting to know one another again. It then quickly becomes an exciting thriller with a fun B-movie sensibility.

I'm a big fan of genre films and really enjoy a good B-movie. Joy Ride, however, ran out of ideas about half-way through the film. That made for a fairly boring, and downright annoying, last act.

The movie has one HUGE redeeming virtue, however. Paul Walker has a surprisingly long scene where he is completely naked. Completely. Naked. Paul Walker. Completely. Steve Zahn is completely naked too. Naked. Completely. Those scenes alone make this worth the price of admission.

Review: This movie is about a prank gone bad, the prank is watching the movie. This movie makes no sense, how does this guy follow them around in that big truck without getting noticed. And the ending is so unbelievable. This movie is just bad, watch at ya own risk

Summary: Impressive Thriller
Review: The movie is well made, the acting was impressive, and the DVD I saw anyway was packed with extras, including 4 alternative endings. I really enjoyed the movie. It kept my interest peaked throughout. I also know that it is something I'm sure all of us have done sometime in our life. Prank someone that is, especially as teenagers. However, after you watch this film you will think twice before you ever pull a prank again. See this movie!

Summary: One of the best thrillers
Review: If you've seen Jeepers creepers, Joy Ride is the film that Jeepers Creeprs should've been, but was not! I think I enjoyed Joy Ride as much as I did because I was expecting it to fall on it's face somewhere towards the end of the film(like Jeepers Creepers did the last half and went into utter stupidity!), but Joy Ride didn't. Director John Dahl kept the tension throughout the entire fil, -- most importantly made the main characters believable.

Summary: Great Movie.
Review: I almost did not watch the movie... I am so glad I did... and then I watched it again another thousand times... and I plan to watch it again... and when the price goes to a normal price... I will own!! This movie had everything!
