Summary: a good action/thriller flick.
Review: This movie is good. It has good special effects. I think it is better than dante's peak. This movie also isn't very long like some disaster movies are. I like disaster movies and this one is one that wins place in my heart. Buy it!

Summary: A Very Underrated movie
Review: "Volcano" is a very underrated movie, a lot of people said the film was unrealistic and stupid I totally disagree. This film has action, suspense, comedy, thrills, everything. This film also has great special effects and good performances from a good cast I highly reccomend this film. Also the DVD is exceptional.

Summary: Wow!
Review: While this movie does have some pretty cheesy moments it more then compensates for them with superb visuals and strong suspense. It might be a typical disaster movie, but it is defenetly at the lead of that pack.

Summary: One of my favorites!
Review: Volcano is one of my favorite movies of all time! I love action/disaster movies, and in my opinion, Volcano is one of the best. Better than Twister. There is some great acting in it, and the dialogue is wonderful too. You'll have your hands sweating before it's over.

Summary: Hey, look...we're all the same color!
Review: I thought this movie was bad, at first. It had no plot, cheesy recycled effects, bad acting, themes of racism to please the masses, no suspense, and last, video in rewind that was supposed to look like it was going forward! My favorite! But then, I realized that by the end, this movie was up there with Starship Troopers. I broke at least 4 ribs laughing. If you want a good movie to ridicule forever...if you're always the guy cracking jokes, and people tell you to shut up...if you liked MST 3000, you'll get this DVD and enjoy giving Tommy Lee (Jones) the mocking of his life.

Summary: Lava in LA...interesting
Review: I am a big fan of disaster movies, from the 70s as well as the recent 90s blockbusters. Volcano was one of my favourites...I've given this film four stars because that's what it deserves for great action sequences and special effects.

I see a lot of complaints about underdeveloped characters and plots but then again are we really expecting these from blockbusters? I think it's about some of these critics realised they just aren't going to get these things in a disaster film!! So stop looking and enjoy these films for what they offer.

I found the fact that a volcano could erupt in LA a bit silly, and I wondered why they didn't just make the event an earthquake instead. We already had Dante's Peak, which I preferred, ID4, Twister and then there was Deep Impact and Armageddon. I thought there would have been a movie focusing on earthquakes.

Sit back and be amazed and excited.

Summary: What's Next for Los Angeles ?!?
Review: Earthquakes, flash floods in the canyons, raging wildfires, devastating race riots -- all unfortunate parts of Los Angeles' recent history. And now -- a volcano?!? Apparently, a swelling hot spot of molten magma, produced by years of complex tectonic plate interactions and fault movements is centered below the La Brea Tar Pits, patiently waiting for the right set of circumstances to erupt. A moderate earthquake provides the catalyst and we're on our way to an Irwin Allen style disaster flick. This means a LOT of noise, intense special effects, several underdeveloped and/or obnoxious characters, some bad acting (particularly from Gaby Hoffmann as Tommy Lee Jones' daughter) and more than a few unrealistic, death-defying escapes (including the big one at the end). The final scheme of imploding a medical center to create a sudden dam that will divert the lava flow into a channel to the Pacific Ocean (all this MUST be done in 20 minutes, from conception to execution) is completely ludicrous. By the way, this movie is NOT a spoof of disaster movies, the director and screenwriter treat the theme seriously and the only intentional bits of humor center around the daily conflicts and ordeals of living in L.A. And some of the dialogue between Tommy Lee Jones and Anne Heche -- who actually is quite good as a spunky geologist -- may inspire a chuckle or two. Several real-life local television reporters and news anchors make cameo appearences doing "live coverage" of the disaster and will be recognized by most Southern California residents. WARNING: One of the most annoying realities of this movie is that the director has almost all the actors SHOUTING AT THE TOP OF THEIR LUNGS in almost every scene from start to finish. In fact, they do this even when there are no background explosions, etc. that need to be shouted over. It is very noticeable and it just may give you a migraine before the movie is over. Tommy Lee Jones in particular does a lot of SHOUTING and everybody also has a tendency to talk all at the same time. I know it's supposed to be chaotic and all, but it's really tooooo muuuuch. One of the positive messages of this film is that we humans shouldn't "wait" for a disaster to strike to show our virtuous natures and our sense of community, mutual respect, and cooperation. The "can't we all just get along" philosophy is tested here, and as the cute little boy observes at the end of the movie, everybody looks the same with grey ash covering their faces ( no superficial racial, ethnic, or cultural differnces are apparent to make us hate and/or fear one another).

Summary: Good, Mindless Entertainment
Review: I rented this movie and "Titanic" from the library on the same weekend (our library doesn't charge for videos, so the price is right). It was just as enjoyable on the tv screen as in the theatre, which is to say it is entertaining as long as you don't question how silly it all is. I love watching L.A. get destroyed, though (I live there). And casting Tommy Lee Jones in the main role was a good idea. It was good fun - so was the Titanic, except one won an Oscar and the other didn't. Go figure.

Summary: Path to quick, easy wealth: idiotic screenplays!
Review: This movie hits all the tired old disaster flick clichés. As a budding screenwriter, I wanted to vomit. None of the characters say or do anything that makes any sense. The laws of geology, nature, and physics are thrown out the window. Impressive looking lava flows are all that seem to matter to the audiance. The screenwriter must have used all of two brain cells in writing this script. But he laughed all the way to the bank. You can't argue with success. I'll take my cue from him, and soon I'll be raking in the money. Wish me luck!

Summary: GREAT STUFF
Review: I thought this was a pretty good disaster move, with perhaps not-so-good special effects (the lava flow seemed hokey to me). But the lava "bombs" were done well with apparently some real autos destroyed, thereby running the budget up.

Great in a theatre, but also makes an excellent DVD.
