Summary: Superb special effects... but no writers to be found.
Review: The movie Godzilla will blow you away with the special effects. On DVD with a good sound system, you'll be mesmerized. Godzilla running through New York City being chased by helicopters and tanks is just amazming. Unfortunately, they were not able to dip into the $100 million dollar budget and find a couple of good writers. The writing for the old Godzilla movies made more sense and they were in Japanese subtitles. (The Siskel and Ebert jab probably killed their chances of making this movie into a potential classic.) Breathtaking special effects.. but I could have pulled out a couple of kids from kindegarten to do better writing.

Summary: Brainless Movie with bad acting
Review: Devlin and Emmerich had some nerve to complain of bad acting in Japanese Godzilla films. This so-called Godzilla flick has the most corny, overplayed, overall worst acting I have seen this year! Even B-Movie's can manage better than what's presented here.

Reno manages a great preformance (with the crappy role that he's presented) but can't save the movie. The plot. What plot? Giant lizard attacks New York, that's about it. And Godzilla itself...

Summary: GODZILLA ROCKS!
Review: Godzilla is one of the coolest movies I have ever seen! I loved it. If you are buying for kids or for yourself as a godzilla fan, either one is great. BUY THIS MOVIE!

Summary: Well, I like it.
Review: I don't know why everyone is putting down the new GODZILLA. They complain it doesn't look like the old one; well, they were told from the start to expect something new. They complain the script is weak; well, so are many of the Toho Godzilla movie scripts. But enough editorial. This movie is a special effects bash, with just the right touch of humor. Personally, I LOVED this movie. Even the human characters had appeal. Especially Animal and Mayor Ebert :-) I have all 22 Toho movies, so I know what I'm talking about. Buy GODZILLA today!

Summary: What could have been.
Review: This movie had great potential. Matthew Broderick is great as always - too bad the rest of the cast couldn't act. Special effects made this movie good, but all the Hollywood-hype can't make a movie great. The film drifted too far from the original storyline, and Godzilla fans will probably be disappointed. I recommend this movie as a "must-see" if there is nothing else to rent. Not a "buy-er".

Summary: despite all put downs
Review: i thought the movie was great, very action packed, of course im one who grew up watching all of the godzilla movies on nite owl theatre in the middle of the night so this new version was a smash with me despite all of the negative criticism.

Summary: Much better on home video than at the movies
Review: As often happens this movie got better on home video. Due primarily to the spectacle and killer sound track. If you grew up on Rodan & King Kong etc. then I don't see how you can resist owning this movie. The technical improvements in FX and sound post production make this film worth owning, not to mention the decision to make the MONSTER so large that it had to be filmed out of frame (vertically), showing mostly legs and of the lower torso! Now for the bad part of the review. It is perhaps the worst told story ever seen on film. The two directors Emery something or another and the other guy just flat out don' know what they are doing. They made exactly the same basic story telling mistake in "Independence Day". There's only one way to tell a satisfying story, and that's in 3 acts/ act 1/ act 2/ act 3/ and in that precise order. These no talents keep trying to put act 2 first then act 1 followed by act 3. The unsatisfying result is that you get this long boring middle section in the movie where nothing happens. They attempt to establish character parameters in this middle section instead of in act 1 where character introduction & personalty are traditionally established. Perhaps the most amazing thing about this movie is the obvious attempt to steal Spielburg's directing talent in the Madison Square Garden sequence. That by the number rip-off was obviously done by frame by frame imitation on side-by side viewers. CARLTON FROM ATLANTA
