Summary: What's wrong with having some fun?
Review: Yeah, it's silly. It's derivative. It's not the greatest (or even close). Still, I think a lot of people are missing an essential point in this film...IT'S A PARODY!!! It's a big joke, with running gags, lots of humor, fun characters, especially Broderick. Matthew Broderick is at his best when he looks like the idiot hero; he's self-effacing and lovable and that should be enough. They constantly mispronounce his name, followed by "er...whatever" and he's regularly referred to as "the worm guy". It happens a lot. I'm a fan of running gags. That so many people took this film WAY too seriously may explain its failure. The extras on the DVD are good, especially listening to the uber- master Emmerich trying to sound like the expert (which he's NOT!). A bit disturbing to me, was to see NYC destroyed, yet there were some great aerial shots of the WTC. When one watches a goofy film like this, it's good to keep in mind that it's all fantasy. The aerial shots were glorious, and can live on, at least superficially, as a testament to the NYC skyline, as some of us knew it. The ones who don't like this film are the ones who can't find humor in the silliness of grand fantasy.

Summary: What happened to Godzilla?
Review: The most disappointing part of this movie is the fact that Godzilla doesn't look like his old self. The original Japanese Godzilla might have been campy, but at least that monster was likeable and interesting. In this film, Godzilla is portrayed as a lame lizard that is destroyed by the military with relative ease. To top that off, the acting in this film is terrible and most of the human characters aer whiny and anoying. Sure, the special affects might be better, but that doesn't save the film. In trying to make Godzilla more realistic, the director of this film has taken away the monster's power and mutilated its character beyond recognition. Personally, I think the guys who made this movie were either trying to spoof Jurassic Park, or were throwing a tantrum over not being the ones who did that movie.

Summary: Just not his old self...
Review: The guys who made this movie should have created a CGI Godzilla based on the Japanese movie series about Godzilla, instead of cooking up their own lame and tame lizard. Also, an anime version of the original would have been a good idea. Nuff said.

Summary: Critics are plain wrong!
Review: Plain and simple, this is a good thriller/action/monster movie. All the whining about this not being like the "original" Godzilla (a man in a phoney suit) has gotten very irritating. This movie is not perfect, but the criticism of it is not justified. It has tons of real, believable action, some supsense (unlike most original Godzilla movies), awesome and realistic special effects that blow away ANY other Godzilla movie made by Toho to date, believable and interesting, even funny at times, characters, and the acting IS fairly good, unlike ANY acting in the the "other" G movies. People just miss the point that this is NOT a Japanese Godzilla movie but a retelling of the basic story, that is, radiation has caused a dangerous mutation in nature that then endangers man, who created the radiation. It DOES teach that lesson, just like the "original" one did, just not in such a hokey way. Why anyone would want a fake looking man in a suit over this thoroughly realistic giant lizard is beyond me. It even has "weight" when it walks. The ground trembles with each step as it would in real life, unlike the rubber suit Godzilla. I consider this the Godzilla for grown ups. It does have some problems, like a week long rain storm (to make the CGI work easier to hide mistakes) and it would have been nice to see the new Godzilla to blow fire, but, those are really the only problems I see in this movie. I have read on the net that the sequel to this will have a fire-breathing lizard and will fight against Megalon. Can't wait. It is worth seeing!

Summary: 5 stars for the sound ... 3 for the movie.
Review: If you have a DVD player connected to a very good sound system, make no mistake, this DVD is the one ! . The sound of this movie, from the musical score to the special effects are excellent. Aside from this, I pretty much share the same opinion everyone has of this movie : not only it could have been a franchise , but it was at least 20 minutes too long !!!

Summary: Head's Up!
Review: Sorry ... When you got a theme of "man vs. nature", nature always wins out. But, so is life. What else can you do when you've got a raging lizard running around in NYC? Could you try and get the National Guard and the Air Force to shoot it down? Or do you get the Navy on board and shoot some torpedos at it? Well, both were done, but none worked. Godzilla is too smart. Here is one "monster" that sprouted because of being exposed to nuclear testing, only to swim all the way from French Polynasia to Gotham, for the sole purpose of laying eggs. Just letting nature take it's course. But in this tasteful movie, with the boyish charm of Matthew Broderick and the full gusto of a witty supporting cast, all of whom have the typical New York attitude, Godzilla finally gets what is coming to it. Man made it; man destroys it. Or does it? The ending leaves little doubt that there may be a nice sequel pending. I liked this movie. The special effects were first class (I loved it when Godzilla was running down the Avenues of New York chased by army helicopters!) and the storyline---although it did have a undeveloped love interest story---was well paced and sequenced. All in all, good movie.

Summary: Here is a hint about How to not waste your money...Avoid it!
Review: Yeah, Godzilla is a cheese pie the director throws in our faces...The special effects were not that good(and even before seeing the movie, I knew it would be the only interest in this one)and the girl who plays Matthew Broderick's wife is even worse than Rose McGowan and all the stupid ''actresses'' in Jawbreaker. She didn't have a lot of things to say and she got nominated for the worst actress at the Rizzies' fest. And what about Matthew Broderick? He played in ''MASTERPIECES''like Inspector Gadget and Godzilla...what an annoying career! I am kidding when I am saying he had a good career. Jean Reno deceived me a lot, even when I think about the fact that he had not a big role. But when I think about the fact that the biggest role in this film was the dinosaur made by computer, I tell myself; let's skip this one in Jean Reno's career. He was excellent in The Professional and in other movies...The film is completely ridiculous, and doesn't follow the steps of the old Japanese series, in which he was fighting other monsters to save the city. In this thing, he is the big enemy...and the last twenty minutes were supposed to be the most suspenseful part of the movie...nobody saw it, because everyone was asleep after the FIRST twenty minutes. Even The Lost World was better than this all the way(and The Lost World was a BIG FAT HUGE disapointment)! I just want to imagine what directors as good as Martin Scorcese, Stanley Kubrick(he was alive when Godzilla released)could have done with a near budget...this was a nightmare from the awful beginning to the awful ending...I don't think any other mistakes like this one should be done in the future...well....I hope so!

Summary: Godzilla stomps into the new century
Review: Saw this movie back 1998 and did not really know what to think of it. Time passed and realized how much I had enjoyed this movie. lots of footage regularly popped up when talking about movies. Though it is a sort of Jurassic park Clone instead of living up to the Godzilla Legacy it is really enjoyable for a broad audience. The DVd is excellent. Sound is awesome and picture is crystal clear.

The price is a bargain and the extras are great so don't hesitate!

Summary: here the scoop
Review: first of all it has godzilla as the japanese wanted him.the plot is cut up into pieces: find godzilla, see if he is leathel, kill him, find baby godzillas, kill them, escape. it has great acting. for the people who say it has bad acting youve seen to many japanese godzilla movies they have bad acting. plus what did you want an american guy in a suit? heck no!!!! it would look fak and we have the technology to do better. if you dont like cgi, go see movie with clamation, minatures, and suits.

ITS A GOOD MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
