Summary: Excellent war film!
Review: I haven't seen the DVD, just the vid, but it's a film that I've watched many times. It holds up reallly well with repeated viewings, with another incredible performance by Walken. I don't consider the beginning slow, the episode in Zangaro is very creepy. I just wish David Lean had directed the movie, the story is worth it.

Summary: Now Hiring: Merc's for Jungle Work
Review: I take issue with the one review of this movie. He managed to explain the entire movie but failed to grasp the relevence of the plot. Dog of War was the "Ronin" of its era. The film captured the geo/political picture of Africa during the 70's. The fact that these "good old boys" and their handler's only wanted to profit from Africa's turmoil lends more credibility to the movie. Of course, once lied to , Shannon hands over the government to Dr. Okoyo. A merc can always use a freind and safe haven during future exploits. The weapons, location, and actions of the merc's were as accurate as can be expected from Hollywood.

Summary: Footage Restored
Review: I was suprised to find that the VHS edition was missing over 10 minutes of footage, which is restored in the DVD edition. The restored footage serves to fill some gaps in the VHS edition storyline.

Summary: Christopher Walken IS THE BEST!
Review: I've read the book, but i havent seen the vidio, hopefully i will soon! This has to be great!

Summary: not worthy of the book
Review: If you've read the book, Dogs of War, then you will be really disappointed with this movie. It tries to follow the book but does a really poor job. It skips over details of the operation and of the plot from the book. I find it hard for anyone who hasn't read the book to really understand this movie. It's as though they've taken every 35th page and made a scene in the movie with it. It felt kind of disjointed.
I would love to see a remake of it though. The book is fantastic for those who are really into the details of setting up an operation of this magnatude.

Summary: The Dogs of War
Review: Since I am a Christopher Walken fan, I bought this movie without really knowing much about it. However, I was pleasantly surprised as the movie shows a side of a war film that is rarely seen. Generally, war movies involve the clash of various nationalities and their armies. This film, though, tells the story of mercenaries who are attempting the overthrow of a corrupt African dictator. Walken is excellent as usual, and the movie proceeds quickly. Video and audio quality are somewhat dated, but overall, this is a great film.

Summary: Anybody want to buy a Coup'?
Review: The best of the "hired killers takes out a bassackwards third world African nation in ten minutes or less" genre. Christopher Walken fans will love this one as he occupies the camera for about 98% of the film and does an admirable job playing ringleader to a small band of mercenaries hired by London's Enron branch to take down some dude with a Gucci sword named Kimba, the benevolent ruler of Okka Bokka Boo. The pace is a little slow for my tastes but they threw in my favorite girl next door, JoBeth Williams, as Walkens ex-wife just to keep me occupied while the guns were being shipped in from Switzerland or somewhere. All I can tell you is the climax is worth waiting for. It's outstanding actually. See if you can spot Ed O'Neill from Married With Children fame. 3 hand grenades and 1/2 a bazooka.

Summary: THE DEFINITIVE MERCENARY FILM
Review: This film is one of the best. It is unique in demonstrating, that for those directly involved in this sort of thing, money is secondary. Justice is paramount. Neo-Nazis need not apply.
