Summary: A blast
Review: Some people (wrongly) criticize Spawn (1997) as a waste of time. I wholeheartedly disagree. I thought the movie was excellent. Visually, it is superb. The dark look is really well done. The special effects are, of course, remarkable. The characters and story are better than your typical action movie, too. There's a lot to like about this movie. I really enjoyed it. (Interestingly, Roger Ebert gave this movie 3.5 stars.)

Summary: it was 2 thumbs down
Review: It was the is was the worst movie I have ever seen.It was about hell and death and bad things like that. I fell asleep the first time I saw it in '97 and my friend just bought it and I stayed awake, but the day I saw it was the she got it and that day she took it back.

Summary: Trash
Review: This movie is possibly the worst movie I've ever seen. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one is because I thought John Leguizamo was funny.

Summary: I've seen worse
Review: Spawn is a watchable movie but it's disappointing to fans of the comic. The special effects are amazing but the storyline leaves a lot to be desired.

Summary: A textbook example of how not to do a movie
Review: To imagine Spawn, imagine the cult classic and dark masterpiece, The Crow.

Now, remove the incredible gothic atmosphere, mindblowing cinematography, heartfelt acting, intelligent script, powerful musical score, and the incredible suspension of disbelief.

Spawn is quite possibly the worst movie that I have ever seen. The special effects are technically brilliant but ridiculously planned; even for fantasy, they are so unrealistic as to be hilarious. As I looked at Meisphoch or whatever they were calling the devil, I couldn't restrain myself from laughter. I'm supposed to be scared of this thing? It's a big action figure!

The acting in Spawn runs the gamut from bad to worse. Without exception, every character in the movie is wooden, flat and predictable. I'd like to single out the "actor" portraying Spawn here; more than anything else, it was his wretchedness that destroyed the film, reducing it to a parody of a parody of a comic book.

I could go on to talk about the laughably simpleminded 'superhero must save the world' plot, or how the director's attempts to make it edgy and cool drop it into a swamp of pop-culture garbage. Look at the rating you see at the top of your page. On a site where almost everything has 4- or 5- star reviews, this has a 2.5.

Complete, utter, vapid trash without a single redeeming feature.

F -- 0/100

Summary: Worst movie based on a comic book character.
Review: When I watched this movie for the first time I was expecting something like The Crow, I mean Spawn is a character from hell, but boy oh boy was I disappointed. Spawn may rule the comic book and action figure industry but creator Todd McFarlane needs to learn a lot about the movie industry. The story was not well written, the actors' performance were so-so, and the special effects were nothing special. The only thing cool was Spawn's cape but you don't get to see much of that either.

Summary: SPAWN WILL MAKE YOU WISH YOU WERE DEAD
Review: The worst film of 1997 is here, and its "Spawn." A lazy, boring, unsatisfying piece of trash about a government assassin who is killed by his boss, goes to Hell, and comes back to Earth with super-powers. Still with me? A travesty of a film, featuring some of the worst acting in recent memory. I hope Martin Sheen dies in a tragic auto accident. I hope John Leguizamo dies in his sleep. I hope Michael Jai White really goes to hell, and he probably will after acting in this trash. If you spot this one at the video store, set fire to it. Then ask for the manager, and blow his head clean off for allowing this movie in the store. On a scale of 100, a firm 5. It makes you wish you were dead.

Summary: THE SPECIAL - EFFECTS MOVIE EVENT OF THE YEAR
Review: IMAGINE a creature on the verge of creation. From comic legend Todd McFarlane comes the live action special - effects movie event of the year- SPAWN. Michael Jai White, John Leguizamo and Martin Sheen star in a battle beyond good, beyond evil and beyond imagination. This "R" rated director's cut of the movie includes: the 45 mins. of additional footage. An interview with Todd McFarlane. And "THE MAKING OF SPAWN" featurette. "SPAWN" is unforgettable. Again 5 STARS.

Summary: Loved that Red Cape!
Review: While I loved the red cape and the demonic clown was disgustingly good, this movie was so weak. Character development was nonexistent. We never learned enough about Al Simmons before he is turned into the crispy superhero to really feel for him. We don't see him with Wanda to get a feel for why he would give up his soul for her love. The only thing this movie had was special effects, especially that red cape.
