Summary: Zzzzzzzzzzzz...huh?
Review: Before my friend Todd moved out of state to somewhat greener pastures (and my wife and I had a son), we saw a lot of movies together. Many many movies. Some good, some bad. Mostly we enjoyed the cheesy ones, which were at least good for a laugh. Even the worst, we forced ourselves to sit through, telling ourselves that whatever didn't kill us would make us stronger. We saw all of the Batman movies...and made it through without a scratch.

During the showing of Spawn, I actually fell asleep. Repeatedly. That's how ridiculous, stupid, and boring this movie is. I've never fallen asleep in another movie in my life, and to think this is supposed to be an action movie! Worse yet, once I woke up sufficiently, we left. The one and only time we left before a movie was over.

It hurts too much to get into the details. Suffice it to say this is the single least enjoyable movie I've ever paid to see. And I went to see it at the discount theater.

My one-sentence review: "There's an hour of my life I'll never get back."

Summary: A wonderful transition to film
Review: Spawn is a movie that was translated to the film from a comic book, from those who may not have known that. I was a fan of the comic books for quite a few years, and of Todd McFarlane longer than that, and I was heavily anticipating this movies release.. and it didn't let me down. Agreed, the transaction from inked pages to living color wasn't exact, but it was well done none the same.

If you're not a fan of McFarlane's or of Spawn in particular, this movie should likely be reserved for those who enjoy heavy action films. If you are a fan, this is certainly worth picking up.

Summary: Worse than Bats!
Review: This movie is disgusting, violent, not worth anything and there are many more reasons not to buy this piece of trash! Horrible video, do NOT buy!

Summary: This movie could have used Tim Burton
Review: With the emphasis more on action then on Story, Spawn emerges as just another R-rated movie that had potinsal but was beaten down because of poor directing, Maybe Tim Burton could have made this movie better then how it really turned out.

Summary: Stick with the Animated Version
Review: Michael Jai White is impressive as Spawn but is saddled with a rather wooden characterization. Obviously, Martin Sheen filmed many of his scenes unsure of the "effect" to which he would be acting.

The only saving grace is the magnificent Leguizamo as "The Clown." He is totally in character and unrecognizable as the sinister hellish acolyte.

Summary: Best Movie of 97
Review: This movie rocked. Awsome special effects and a great soundtrack. This movie also had comedy. But the fat demon was very annoying but funny. Awsome movie to buy on dvd along with special features like making of featurette and music videos. (Marylin Manson video-good song, sick video)

Summary: There is a surprisingly good aspect to this disc.
Review: I was shocked as I watched this film on my home theatre the first time. Not because the film was actually good.. no it was still terrible. Not because the extras were interesting... no, hearing Todd McFarlane rant and rave about how he "knows what is cool" and is the world's savior against the evil capatalist corperations (Ironically, Mcfarlane himself has BECOME exactly what he used to hate so much). Not because the video was good.. no, it's mediocre. An industry standard.

But that SOUND.

The sound is what saves this disc for me. It's what turned a rental into a purchase. This is the best use of surround channel sound that I have ever heard. The rear channels (in which I ALWAYS love to hear playing. I hate it when they're only used for ambience), as well as the subwoofer is going almost constantly. The sound is what kept me interested from start to finish.

It was almost worth it to the point that I was just about ready to turn off the Tv and just listen.

Summary: One minute of additional footage?
Review: Why bother? The extra footage is a ploy! It seemed stupid to make a directors cut if the movie itself was good to begin with. I love this movie but I was highly disappointed with this DVD, not enough bang for the buck I am afraid. There are better DVD's than this and I know in the future they will make a decent directors cut that is worth watching.

Summary: One hell of a movie
Review: Spawn is great fun all the way.A movie that lets us suspend our beliefs. The special effects are cool and the fight scenes and action scenes are far out.It may not be oscar worthy, but hey,it's all in good fun.
