Summary: Still Afraid to Go in the Water
Review: The Jaws Collector's Addition DVD really is special. Not only does it included the feature film, but the special features really are cool. There is a commentary w/ director Steven Speilburg, photos, outtakes and bloopers, plus the "Get out of the Water" trivia game, which you should play with friends or family right after you watch the movie. This DVD is a great addition to anyone's collection!

Summary: Jaws
Review: When director Steven Spielberg set out to create the motion picture "Jaws", he had no idea how much trouble the film would cause him nor just how incredible, exciting, and important it would eventually become.

The film ventures into the world of Amity Island, which is feverishly awaiting its July 4th holiday weekend to create quite a business for the town. But when a flesh-eating Great White shark enters the town's beaches, it is up to the town sherriff (Roy Scheider in perhaps his best performance outside of "The French Connection"), a geeky graduate scientist (the always admirable Richard Dreyfuss), and the town fish gamer (played by Robert Shaw, the film's best performance by far) to save the day.

Spielberg plays the tension like a sneaky household cat ready to pounce on a silly toy. He knows exactly when his temptations will take over and when he will strike, but the audience is left to guess in fear as the shark terrorizes the small island. What makes "Jaws" so great is not just the fine soundtrack by John Williams, the special effects and the lovable shark machine "Bruce", but the fact that it allows the childish fears in all of us to creep up on us and still make the hair on our necks tingle.

Spielberg would later create even more popular and elaborate masterpieces such as "E.T" and "Saving Private Ryan", but for those who truly enjoy film and its impact on an audience, "Jaws" can certainly bite with the best of them.

Summary: No shark movie will ever live up to this one.
Review: All these so called "scary" films about sharks that have been made are rubbish. Deep Blue Sea, Shark Attack, Lake Placid, they're nothing compared to Jaws. Everything about this movie is great. The best thing is, is that most of the time, you can't see the shark atatcking and you sit there biting off your fingernails wishing you could tell those people to get out of the water. As soon a Christine Watkins dives into the ocean and dissapears in the mouth of the shark, you get shivers up your spine. Don't be fooled by the PG rating, because this is not a movie you want to watch with your kids.

Summary: Man hunts shark - shark turns the table!
Review: I am not a scaredy cat, but this movie made me start looking over my shoulder every time I swim in open waters. It just gets inside your soul and you can't help but think about it anytime you get around the ocean or Gulf. It is one of the three best creature movies I have seen in my life.

The thing that really makes this movie is the psychological terror when it becomes apparent that the shark is actually hunting the men instead of the other way around. It offers everything that a great horror movie should have: the psychological tension, the building suspense, the sudden appearance that makes you jump and scream, and enough gore to make you cringe. This is a classic in horror!

Review: **** ½

Who hasn't heard of Jaws? From the legendary theme from John Williams to the image of a monstrous shark approaching from the depths, Jaws is a classic, a legend, and a masterpiece.

In case you haven't heard the story, Jaws focuses on Martin Brody (Scheider), the hard-working chief of police on Amity Island. After a girl's mutilated body is found on the beach, Brody calls in oceanographic scientist Matt Hooper (Dreyfuss) to examine the body and tell the town what's happening. What's happening is that a monstrous great white shark is looming in the waters, driven by some unseen force. Now it's up to Brody, Hooper, and certifiable sailor Quint (Shaw) to track the beast and kill it'before they kill each other.

Jaws has all the elements of a masterpiece. Spielberg's visionary directing is, as always, outstanding, driven by a bubblegum-story-turned-action-packed-masterpiece script (phew!) by Benchley and co-star Gottlieb from Benchley's exciting best-seller. Who can say enough about the great cast (including a classic performance by Shaw), not to mention the perfect score by Williams?

Jaws is the type of film you'll want to watch over and over again. The fast-paced action, complete with likable characters and even some lightheartedness just adds to the experience. Even you haven't already seen it (how could you not?) than drop whatever you're doing and watch it now.

Summary: Much better than the book.
Review: The first time I remember seeing this was when I was about 6 or 7. It scared the bejeebus out of me and I haven't seen it again until Ii found out a girl I like wants to know about it.
It definetely wasn't as scary, seeing as in I've seen The Exorcist, but I loved it, just like I love sharks.
At some points the movie got a bit, just a bit, slow, such as on Quint's boat.
I ordered the book a little while ago, and discovered that there was only a few scenes, as well as names that were connected to the book. The scenes were Chrissie Last Swim and when Alex Kintner dies, which were changed slightly.
The ending was so much better in the movie. Robert Shaw's character Quint drowned in the book, but having him chomped on was heaps better.
The ending was kind of impossible, but so much cooler. In the book, Jaws gets tired, sinks to the bottom of the ocean and dies of annoxia, because if sharks stop moving they drown, one reason why Great Whites don't survive well in aquariums, as Jaws 3-D shows. Spielberg was un-happy with the ending, so he tinkered with it, a lot. Brody throws a scuba tank into Jaws' mouth and shoots it, making Jaws blow sky-high. THough the shark would have either swallowed it or blown itself up by biting it in real life.
Some other differences concerned Matt Hooper. In the book, Peter Benchley made Hooper know Ellen Brody from his child-hood, and have a sort of non-kissing talking about their fantasies affair with her. This made Hooper and Brody enemies in the finale. But on film, they were good friends, and stayed in touch in the second film. Hooper also got eaten in the cage by the shark, and Brody accidentally shot him in the neck.
THe shark looks fake, the acting is great and this movie might just get me a girlfriend.

Summary: Jaw-dropping brilliance.
Review: Great film in which all the component parts come together to form one of the best thrillers of all time - the music, the directing, the writing, the performances - with special mention for comic acting genius Richard Dreyfuss and a masterful, larger-than-life Robert Shaw. This was, remember, before the days of Discovery Channel, when sharks still relatively little-studied animals. This may help explain the least impressive support performance in the film â€" the model shark â€" which by today’s technical sta ndards comes across as a bit limp (in one scene the shark drags a person under water but his jaws are nowhere near the victim â€" what did it use, his fins??). But don’t let that put you off, this is a 5-star film, everything else in this movie’s so well done that the shark thing pales into insignificance. One of my favourite movies of all time.
