Summary: Not for me
Review: I didn't enjoy this movie. It was difficult to follow and very wird. If I hadn't paid to see it I would have shut it off. It bordered on being boring.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Leonardo DiCaprio............much more than a teen idol.
Review: Although I must admit I am a 15 year old die-hard Leo DiCaprio fan and have been for almost 4 years, I wouldn't praise a performance of his if it didn't deserve praising, but this certainly does! After TITANIC would anything he did be exceptional in the eyes of critics or the cinema going public? no! but his performance in this movie is much more than satisfactory! TITANIC was a one off he won't be doing such a huge commercial movie again and nothing he does will be of that proportion you can expect many more fine performances like this from him again, The world was waiting to see what this A-list star would do next but of course as it wasn't titanic it wasn't good enough in some people minds, many said the big gap between his movies was the end for Leo, but going to the beach premiere in the UK proved totally opposite! thousands and thousands of fans! young girls, young boys, older women, older men and even old age pensioners lining aboout a mile down the road and up to 10 deep! a huge turn out to support this movie and Leo himself! This movie is wonderful in so many ways, it is origional, creative and thought provoking! It is about one mans search for paradise which turns into hell and pushes him into the depths of craziness. Forget the book it is just as great but if you compare them you won't get the same affect! this film is visualy pleasing and mentally pleasing too but only if you aprecitate it for what it is-a peice of art and not a huge budget commercial blockbuster. don't expect anything more or anything less than great acting (especially by dicaprio) well layed out, great script, artsy, detailed and a visually and not visually stunning film! this is not the end but the beggining of a new eira for DiCaprio! you check him out in an upcoming flick "Gangs of new york" with Cameron Diaz.

Summary: A Dream For The Teens
Review: I first saw the movie The Beach in the theatres i truly enjoyed this film i thought it was a excellent portrayal of that secret desire all young people have to go out and enjoy themselfs in a far away land. The stunning idea of an island getaway for those people who crave that sort of adventure is a great idea from the minds behing the 1996 sucsess "Trainspotting" in my opinion this is a great movie for the adventures at mind and soul.

Summary: BLOODY BRILLIANT!
Review: I thought that this film ws excellent a x between 'Titanic' and 'Romeo & Juliet' (although with a different twist! ) It has a bit of a different ending to the book which is kind of predictable.)It is also a little bit weird in the middle of the film when Leonardo DiCaprio(Richard) goes Phsyco! It makes u laugh in some parts and feel squeemish in other parts! but overall i thought it 2 be a BRILLAINT FILM!And Leonardo DiCaprio acted brilliantly in it!(but mind u doesn't he always! )

Summary: Not so bad
Review: Though there's some parts of the movie that lag a bit, over all it is a great story adapted from an even better book. Don't expect the same Leo that we saw in "Titanic," because in this flick he portrays a total oppisite from his boat movie. But what this movie lacks, the soundtrack makes up for. Without a doubt "The Beach" soundtrack is one, if not the best soundtrack that came out this year with suburb music from Moby, All Saints, and more. If you don't get the movie, the soundtrack is a MUST!

Summary: Visually stunning, but still mind garbage
Review: I saw this in the theater via a free pass given to me by a friend. If I had paid for this film, I would have asked for my money back.

The cinematography is stunning and the scenery is vivid and breath-taking. The acting is superb but the entire concept of the movie is perposterous.

Lusting teens (perhaps early 20s instead of late teens, but you can't really tell) sow their wild oats in Thailand in the hopes of finding a secret island flowing with free love and marijuana. No, I'm not joking... that's the plot.

The goal of this movie seems to be to preach a that a lack of morals has few consequences. The film seemed to me to be targeted to a teen audience. Leonardo DiCaprio is a big teen box-office grab. The problem is that this is not a film suitable for anyone under 18... and then again, it's just not suitable, period. An extremely graphic sex scene shows everything but actual penetration and lasts way too long - this is definitely not something I'd want my kids to see. A twisted Amish-like society lives on the island, blissfully free of the trappings of machines, electricity, toilets or hot-running water... a society living and working in harmony even though they're constantly stoned. Callous, self-centered characters through-out the film are truly repulsive and yet do not suffer any ill consequences... just bed-hopping and doobie-smoking for all.

I am not a prude, I just enjoy a good film and this didn't fit the bill. DiCaprio has already proved himself a talented actor in films such as "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" and Tilda Swinton (famous for the lead role in "Orlando") also delivers a jaw-dropping performance.... what a shame that such talent had to go into such a piece of garbage. This was a little like "Blue Lagoon" meets "Cheech & Chong: Up in Smoke" crossed with "Resevoir Dogs." Not something you can watch without a barf bag. Many of the scenes were so boring and stupid, it was hard not to fall asleep... too much predictability and tons of cliche settings.

Not appropriate for young viewers, and not mentally stimulating enough for mature viewers. No social redeeming values and no new "concept" in film making that makes this film worth spending 2 hours of your life watching it.

Summary: Did they get bored half way through?
Review: This film started off really well, despite being told that I might be let down after reading the book. However, about one and a half hours into it and Richard(DiCaprio) freaks out for no reason! In the book we can see that there is a build up and a reason for his breakdown but the film just flings him in at the deep end. Despite this though the performances from all were good. The soundtrack (check it out)was pretty cool and the scenery was amazing. A really enjoyable film, providing you switch off half way through!

Summary: Not that great
Review: Not the best movie he's done, kinda dragged in some parts. The music wasn't really great either but does anyone know who sings the music in the previews on TV? It's a woman, sounds ... uh, african maybe? I don't really know but if someone could tell that be great, thanks!

Summary: A Story worth repeating.
Review: I thought this movie touched on a very good issue that has been talked about before in books and other movies. In this film the main characters are searching for a Utopian society. Something that doesn't exist and is not even desireable. When this nonexistant experience is pursued, very interesting things happen.

Summary: out of the illusion of american luxury and into the world
Review: I thought that this movie was a painting of alot of peoples feelings. i dont mean from the movie i mean people in real life. we all crave the ultimate adventure, searching for excitement and detatchment from every day situations. the movie takes us to a place where utopia is reality, however temporarily. I live on an island. not a perfect beach paradise but to some thats wahat it is. The beach is a journey into the mind of the drifting traveler in search of the cure for his restlessness. But when he thinks he finds it, he realizes hes stumbled upon not a cure but an even harsher version of the cancer. i read the book after watching the movie and where i did prefer the book, the movie was an impressive adaptation. Although i believe i speak for many when i say that Jed should have been in the movie. A great inspirational epic.
