Summary: A film advanced the future
Review: While there are so many films repeat the old topic again and again, I am so eager to see a film that brings new ideas. The Beach is one of those.

Richard is icon of many new generation. Those who grew up on the arrangement of their parents and effected by media such as video games, war movies. They are not independent and never experienced anything on their own. They are tired of the superficial world and want to experience something new. But how, they have no idea. So they can just follows the trek of many other teenager.

Of course, just follow other people cannot satisfy them. They desire for more, like Richard. However, when there is a chance for them to explore, they do not know how to handle and are afraid of the uncertainty. So, they need companion and they have to inform someone else in case of any dangerous which might be encountered. And because of their lack of experience, they always make mistakes. Each time when they know they have made mistake, they tell lies to cover up instead of admit their fault. When they faced any difficulty which have to solve on their own, they have no experiences to draw from but depending on what they grow up with, lik the video games, TV program. If they cannot solve the problems, they will lose their sanity.

This movie is a mirror of many new generation. They should watch this movie.

Summary: Satisfying Enough
Review: This the second adaptation from director Danny Boyle, writer John Hodge and producer Andrew Macdonald after Trainspotting, is Alex Garland`s novel The Beach. After turning the supposedly unfilmable Trainspotting into a fantastic film, it does come a surprise that a novel as apparently filmable as this turns out to be not so great. The story goes...Leonardo DiCaprio plays Richard, an American backpacker who heads to Bangkok. There he meets Robert Carlyle who superbly plays a rather strange traveller by the name of Daffy. The very next morning Richard finds a map on his door which leads to a paradise only known as " The Beach ". With an attraction to his neighbouring traveller, a french girl named Francoise, he decides to invite her and her boyfriend along. From here they head to The Beach, their instinct and curiosity taking them the whole way there, were they indeed do find paradise. But their paradise doesn`t last too long, as all good things must come to an end somehow or other. The Beach isn`t a bad film, the beautiful photography, wonderful music and good performances all round are worthwhile. Especially DiCaprio, and a fine performance from Virginie Ledoyen, who has made the change to American cinema in style. Danny Boyle`s stylish and adventurous approach to directing this film will make many people stay watching, but it does have its flaws. Their is a lack of relationship between DiCaprio and many of the characters and the film loses its feel towards the end. DiCaprio going crazy happens just a bit too late, we`ve already seen enough craziness by off his head Daffy. In the end, don`t expect too much and you may enjoy this. But it is worth watching for the beautiful scenery. I just feel that this was a wasted oppurtunity, and could have been so much better.

Summary: I loved it
Review: The Beach is a movie full of adventure and pure imagination. It strays from the classic Hollywood romance movie and opens up a controversial theme. We yearn for paradise, but once within our reach, do we start breaking it down, and ultimately destroying everything we touch? Leo's character is so different from the norm you can only be completely fascinated by it. As another person wrote: the critics were unusually harsh on it. It is such a shame that people might choose not to experience it because of this. See it for yourself, go into it with an open mind, and draw your own conclusions.

Summary: Great movie compares with Fight Club!
Review: I rented this movie on DVD and I enjoyed it. Leonardo DiCaprio did his best performance in the movie. It was kind of like Fight Club because this movie was controversal except it is set at a beach and it also has Leo talking during the movie. Forget those movie critics who gave it one star. It's an awesome movie. It contains action, violence, and graphic language. But parents if you have little kids who want to see this movie don't let them because it contains lots of violence.

Summary: PRETENTIOUS
Review: What a waste of time! Was everyone involved in making this movie stoned? How dare some compare this with the Lord of the Flies! And what's this thing about parallel universe...? oh, ppppulleease! I haven't even read the book but the movie comes to me as abysmal already. Even the performances which could have been the film's saving grace is sophomoric.

Summary: Thrilling! I must see! THE BEACH truly is mesmorizing!
Review: The Beach, starring Leonardo diCaprio is a mesmorizing, tough, elaborate thriller! Acclaimed director Danny Boyle has created a movie that has so much power and mind and leaves' us with the questions at how we would have dealed with the situations these characters did. THE BEACH is smart, sexy and stunningly a fun ride for teenagers and adults alike!

Summary: Shallow But beautiful travel advertisement
Review: Based on Alex Garlands modern classic follows a young boy richard who is a care free american traviling to Thailand. When there he receives a map to an island by a stoned Scott. When he teams up with two french people to swim to the island they think that they are in paradise but it's to good to be true. Leonardo DiCaprio plays Richard who is traviling to Thailand and when there receives a map from a stoned scott played by Robert Caryle in a bit part who is the only character who i really enjoyed in the film.

Coming from Danny Boyle and the makers of trainspotting you would expect something tripped out but beautiful. This movie is so shallow by so beautifuly photographed that it's like they were trying to make a movie about paradise and maddness but what they ended making was an advertisment for Thailand's islands. Leo wanted to distance him self from Titanic and boy did he in that he was very convincing in this he is so boring he dosn't rate well on an acting scale of 1-10 he would rate a 5/12. All the beach is part Lord Of The Flys part Apocalypse Now. yes danny Boyle does get some things right. But even though a movie with great scenery can't guarantee a good film.

Summary: The Beach is a thing of beauty and an inspiration
Review: Although most tend to portray this movie as pretentious, going nowhere in particular, and basing it's merit on the visual stunningness (and it is stunning), the fact is that the movie touches upon our American psyche in several indellible (sic) ways. It shows how our obsession with normalcy and inability to change has stagnated our lives into one lous mess of sameness. The beach is a metaphor for an escape from a supposed reality of our civilization, to a surreal realm that appears more real than life itself. It's own definition of paradise as a feeling inside you where you are most happy in your life, rather than a place you can find holds dear to me and reminds me to stop and realize how much better my life is than it seems at times. The music is perfectly tuned to the picture, with thumping rave beats to mellow piano interludes, timed with the emotion perfectly. Leonardo DiCaprio proves what I've been saying ever since I saw Romeo & Juliet: he actually does have talant outside of his bland Titanic character. The supporting characters, such as Sals and Etienne, could have been fleshed out a bit more, although this does not degrade their emotional impact on the film or the viewer's opinions of realistic characters. One of the best films I've seen this sadly dissapointing year, movie-wise. And to the (obviously) overly self conscious and sensitive parent who wrote about the "graphic sex scene" - it was behind a curtain and lasted not more than 30 seconds! And about the pot smoking - who cares? It happens in real life, so deal with it!

Summary: Beach deserves another chance
Review: Although "The Beach" didn't wasn't too successful at the box office this past winter, true movie fans are encouraged to check "The Beach" out as it hits DVD. While many moviegoers avoided this film because they aren't big DiCaprio fans, the truth is that whether or not one loves him, one of the main reason to see this film is because of DiCaprio. Whether one is a Leonardo DiCaprio fan or not, DiCaprio and director Danny Boyle bring the film based on the best-selling book to life with excellent cinematography and astounding acting. This film alone proves DiCaprio isn't just another pretty boy in Hollywood and actually is one of the most talented young actors around today. The film's cinematography is yet another reason that makes the film so engaging. While the breathtaking beach scenes are much more powerful on the big screen, the scenery still engages viewers on the television and gives everyone hope that paradise does exist. One scene though, in which DiCaprio becomes a video game character fighting for survival in the woods, is even more brilliant and realistic on the television though, since people usually play their Nintendos and Sega Dreamcast Systems on a TV instead of the bigscreen . While editing the film to a mere two hours was a wise decision on the director's behalf while "The Beach" was in theaters, on TV people can pause the film and come back to it without getting bored and drifting off. That is why the DVD has an added advantage for people who missed it in the theater, or even for "Beach" fans who are seeing it for a second time around, by showing additional scenes that have never before been seen. The DVD also features the alternate ending, a storyboard gallery, the All Saints music video "Pure Shores" and the theatrical trailers. A great film like "The Beach" deserves a second chance, so go out and rent "The Beach" today on DVD. Whether or not one expects a lot out of this film, they will definitely be pleasantly surprised.
