Summary: Independence Day
Review: This is a fun movie at times but overall it is quite weak! The effects are amazing at times then extremely crappy at other moments! The acting is terrible, and the direction is not that strong. Overall this is and ok movie and will probably become a camp classic in the future (You know its true!)

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: It's great fun.
Review: 'Independence Day' is a really fun movie to watch. I remember when I saw it when it came out into the theatres. I along with most other people were blown away. Will Smith steals the show and the best scene is when the blow up the White House.

Summary: Awesome movie!
Review: I still remember very vividly when my mom yelled "Oh My God!" when we watched the preview trailers for this movie around the time it was released.

Upon seeing it, I have to say that "Independence Day" is one of the greatest sci-fi action movies that I have ever seen. Seven years later (At the time of this review), this movie still packs a big punch. The story is of when a large and vicious alien race invade the earth through city-sized spacecraft and wage war against Earth's humanity and now the humans all stop fighting each other and join forces to destroy the alien ships and the aliens themselves before they destroy every major city on earth, suck out all of it's resources and move on to the next planet.

This is a truly magnificent movie. One of the best of 1996.

Summary: C'mon, it's not that bad!!
Review: I know this movie has gotten mixed reviews, but it is worth watching. I've seen it many times, & every time it's on cable, I always find myself watching it again. I do agree with the editorial review about how everything just magically happens in the characters' favor, but *shrug* don't many movies work like that anyway? The thing that attracted me to it was just the story... the "what if" notion of aliens taking over the planet. That alone may push some away who don't feel open-minded enough to the possibility...& whether it is or not, it's just a movie. I myself don't think it's too far-fetched... but, well, I'd have to see it for myself. So with that in mind, it sort of falls into the fantasy category...with a mix of sci-fi, adventure, & comedy, so with all these genres mixed in, it's fun to watch.

As far as the characters, if you liked Will Smith in Men in Black, you'll certainly like him here. Randy Quaid's character is similar to the one he played in American Pie.... & actually, at times it feels like it IS the same character. You'll get a good laugh either way. Jeff Goldblum is pleasing as the genius cable guy who happens to crack the code that no one else noticed... yah, I know. Goldblum's character's Jewish dad, played by Judd Hirsch, is likable with his memorable wisecracks.

Overall, it's not the best movie in the world, but it is entertaining and has many good moments... so there must be some reason cable keeps playing it over & over. And of course, some of the special effects are really cool. I didn't see it in the theater, but I'm sure they were even more impressive. There are some frustrating & aggravating moments (like the virus idea) that many have already pointed out in here, but different things seem to annoy different people, so I'll let you figure it out. It is also safe enough for a family, esp. if kids are alien fanatics. If you like movies like this, I'd also suggest Twister, but if you found either of these aggravating, you'd probably find Godzilla even more so.

Summary: A beautifully crafted movie
Review: Independence Day is a movie that is surprisingly good. From the previews and such you'll see of the movie it seemed the typical summer blockbuster hit, tons of explosions with no real plot. While we've seen tons of movies with Aliens invading Earth, none combine action, sci-fi and plot the way Independence Day does.

The Movie of course is about Aliens who come to Earth but somehow a scientists intercepts a signal and knows finds out these aliens are not friendly. Our scientist (played by Jeff Goldblum) works with the President and Navy to try and evacuate all the major cities around the U.S. before the aliens make their first strike.

Our fighter pilot (Will Smith) is ready to defend the nation at all cost. His arrogance doesn't stand in his way. Of course his character is a little... cliched. Someone with the dream of one day flying in outer-space and the fact that in the beginning he sees no threat in the alien invasion.

It's up to these two with the help of the armed forces of not just the U.S. but the world to stop the alien invasion on July 4.

The special effects in this movie are breathtaking, noteably the scene in which we see the major cities get leveled. It looks incredible and so do the alien space-ships and BACs.

The way the story comes out is pretty neat compared to other movies like this. The science fiction factor is taken to a whole new level in the fact that the movie is more "Technical" than it is action. The people in this movie actually do think to get rid of the alien threat rather than seeing several dog fights.

It's a great movie for its special effects and thought provoking scientific analysis within. For that I give the movie credit. It wasn't just one of those movies you see for the action.

Summary: Big-budget mediocrity
Review: This is a pretty simple flim to sum up, to wit: it is dumb and loud. Its appeal is pretty limited, and it really isn't worth owning unless you are just looking for ways to burn up money. It isn't a horrible film like Starship Troopers, but is just a mediocre popcorn flick. I like action and sci-fi movies, but Independence Day is just not that good.

Summary: A great flick, and very anime-influenced
Review: ID4 is a great flick, always fun to watch -- you can turn your brain off with no discomfort. It's important for people to understand how totally this movie is Anime (and Battlestar Galactica) influenced though. From the Southern Cross episodes of Robotech (known in Japan as Southern Cross), in which giant ships appear over Earth cities, to Macross (the 1984 movie -- the explosion of the mother ship is exactly like Bodolza's ship destruction), the film is clearly influenced by by anime. But the creators were also Battlestar Galactica fans, and they seem to have consciously inserted BSG scenes (the death of Serena/the first lady, the "fly the enemy fighter into the big ship" plot at the end). A good movie, though.

Summary: Nonstop action heartpounder
Review: After "Bad Boys," "ID4" truly cements Will Smith as a box-office star. There is nothing like watching this DVD on a big-screen TV with powerful surround-sound speakers. The experience is intense. "Independance Day" is an exciting, convincing action movie that truly believes in the good in all people and is unfliching in showing this. Pretty much everyone regardless of polital or social standing is shown to be inherently good and loving, and the aliens are portrayed as total evil intent on destruction. This may seem to form the basis for a shallow movie, but somehow the story becomes much more, as the trauma that ensues makes people truly realize how they care for each other and reveals their true selves. "ID4" is a movie about heroes and they are numerous here which makes for a fun movie to watch.

Summary: Just Plain Fun
Review: Independence Day is the best alien movie i've ever seen. Not because of all the action and explosions, it's just a great sci-fi epic. It starts as the government spots strange sitings in the atmosphere, and everything takes off from there.

Jeff Goldblum, Will Smith, and Bill Pullman give it there best in this monumental achievement. Everytime i watch it, i just feel so pumped up when it's over. I'm sure everyone else does, except for those no good ass-clowns who think it's a bad movie.
