Summary: Great cheese.
Review: Flawless cheese, from the dated styles to the overblown performances. "In the water I'm a very skinny lady," indeed. Don't expect anything smart or real; it's just fun.

Summary: Plot incorrect
Review: The "Poseidon Adventure" is about a top heavy ship that capsized when it was struck head on by a 90' tsunami. In my opinion, and according to most ship captians, you ussualy try to hit a wave head on. You do this because if a ship is hitting a wave broadside, the frequency of the wave will match the frequency of the ships rocking motion, causing the ship to capsize, and, enevitably, sink. That is why the plot has no point. The moral, reaserch your topic before going with a plot. Or, make your tsunami faster.

Summary: great movie
Review: the poseidon adventure has less charachters than the book and the story is different, such as the scene where robin shelby swam away from a wave coming towards him and gene hackman. in the book robin is never seen again after a power failure. but afterall its supposed to be different. titanic movies lack the intyensity of this movie. it is also a sad movie because of so many deaths[like shelly winters and gene hackman and stella stevens].so on averageit is a great disaster flick for the '70's.

Summary: Cheesy was never so good!
Review: What can you say about one of the most brilliantly cheesy movies of all time? Even with one-dimentional characters (angry cop, hooker with heart of gold, etc.), horrendous dialogue, and bad acting (Yes, I'm talking to you, Miss Lynley.), you can't help but LOVE this movie. With astonishing special effects, "Poseidon" can hold it's own with today's effects-driven flicks such as Armegedon, Independence Day, et. al. And once you view "Poseidon" that catchy little diddy of a song stays with you for MONTHS! But best of all is the important moral this great movie teaches: when faced with disaster and doom, pretty girls in hot-pants ALWAYS survive. It's classic brain candy that everyone loves to eat up, especially me!

Summary: Still Seaworthy
Review: Anyone who has seen as many disaster movies as I have knows that this is arguably the best one ever made. For a film nearly 30 years old, Poseidon Adventure is still so effective and real that it would make anyone planning to take a cruise think twice. You probably know the plot: luxury liner capsized by a tidal wave. This synopsis is brought to life with suspense, drama, and terrifying reality. One of the most effective cinematic touches is the fact that in nearly every scene the camera is slowly swaying back and forth to give us a sense that we really are at sea. We follow the journey of ten survivors through the inverted ship to their hopeful rescue - narrowly escaping fires, explosions and flooding corridors every step of the way. The sets are epic and nothing less than spectacular. Especially the inverted dining room when the Atlantic comes crashing in and the twisted metal inferno that is now the engine room. Poseidon also gives us some genuine emotional moments. Most notably a scene involving Gene Hackman and Shelly Winter's characters in the engine room. The cast is good, but Gene Hackman, Shelly Winters and Stella Stevens are best. Hackman is our handsome hero, Winters is our unselfish caring mother, and Stevens is radiant and adds a welcome touch of humor to the mess. No, the movie is not perfect. However the suspense and dazzling effects will keep you glued to your seat and you certainly won't be bored. Poseidon Adventure is a true classic. A must see for everyone - not just disaster movie fans.

Summary: Very exciting when it first came out, but hasn't aged well!
Review: The special effects for this film, awesome in 1970, now seem pretty tame by comparison. As for the story line --- I've never liked it when a film TRIES to make me like a character I don't like, and that's exactly how I felt about Gene Hackman's character. I thought he was obnoxious throughout the movie, and his heroic ending didn't change my opinion!

Summary: action adventure movie personifying the 1970 disasaster genr
Review: The Poseidon Adveture personified the essence of the 1970's disaster movie genre. From the opening sequence depicting an angry ocean storm to the dramatic conclussion the viewer finds his/her self glued to their seats. A superb cast brilliantly displays the fear and frustration associated with the situation they find themselves in. The scenes of the tidal wave and subsequent escape adventure are so true to life that still to this day every time I take a cruise I have a certain amount of hesitstion cause I always think back to the ill fated voyage of the SS poseidon . Shelly winters,Stella Stevens. Pamela Sue MArtin gave excellent and thouroughly beleivable performances.

Summary: A brilliant disaster masterpiece of its kind in the 70s
Review: I bought this DVD immediately when it came out in March 1999. The Poseidon Adventure is one that I very well remember as a child -- the luxury liner that turned upside down after it got struck by a huge tidal wave. It was scary for me to see at my early age. I even have nightmares about it (drowning). Having watched it again after so many years, I came to realize that it was a wonderful movie in its magnitude in those years. I think this to be better than Earthquake, Towering Inferno and Airport 77. Special effects are just so real and nerve racking that the viewer can just feel the tension and fear that's going on. The movie has a wornderful cast. The DVD is packed with the standard features.
