Summary: Beautiful!!! But still goofy...
Review: I loved the way this movie was filmed. It was very beautiful and any frame would have made lovely pictures. They found the exact right actors to portray the characters, I thought (having never seen the original show). But the storyline was absolutely silly, although it was easy to follow. If you want a pretty movie, get it. If you want some kind of content and situations that reflect some kind of real life, get something else.

Summary: What a waste!
Review: One of the biggest disappointments of all time! What a waste of such a fabulous cast! Who dreamed up the plot anyway, the directors 5 year old nephew? The scene in which a group of criminals disguise themselves in fuzzy pastel colored bear suits has to be one of the silliest moments ever put on film. I give it two stars for the scene where Emma gets lost in the staircase.

Summary: Not great . . . . but not awful either.
Review: You need to understand the genre to be able to fully appreciate this one. If you're expecting a "straight" movie, you'll miss the point entirely. I can only suggest you check some Avengers (TV show) internet sites and do some research.

Summary: Ignore bad reviews
Review: Definitely sticks to the Avengers tradition. That is, it's meant to be slightly offbeat. All the elements add up to give a synergistic effect, break down into the constituents and it gives a very different impression. So don't listen to the critics - they are paid to criticise after all. Great special effects, sets, costumes, art direction. Try it, you might even like it.

Summary: Very Disapointing
Review: Well as many have said so far I too was looking forward to this movie thus when I saw it I was shocked. With a cast of true performers I was really expecting a "knock your socks"off movie!.The story must have been dreamt up by a seven year old Teddy bears and all!!.My only unanswered question is why did Sean Connery aggree to feature in this movie its the mystery of the century.......

Summary: Goes down like a seaweed sandwich
Review: Great actors. Boring, twisted plot. It could have been a great film if it had a better plot and a better director. What happened?!

Summary: Sean Connery, I'm Ashamed
Review: I can't believe I actually have to give this movie a star. The plot is so in-expertly woven, the characters so undeveloped, the action so random and disjointed, this movie put me to sleep just after the first hour. I simply cannot believe that Sean Connery, one of the greatest actors of (and before) my time, would agree to a starring role in such an embarassing display.

Summary: Good tongue-in-cheek fun, with great "eye candy"
Review: I remember watching the original Avengers on late night tv, and thinking Emma Peal was just the greatest heroine I could dream of. While Uma Thurman was certainly different, I feel she captured the essence of the woman not afraid to be stunning at the same time as capable. Personally, I liked Ralph Fiennes better than Patrick MacNee, maybe because he has a finer profile. I went into this film fully expecting a lot of dazzling special effects to take my mind off the lack of a sensible plot, but I was nicely surprised at how much I truly enjoyed watching Thurman, Fiennes, and Connery have so much fun with such an average script. I'm no expert on films by any means, but I'm buying this one as soon as it becomes available to the public.

Summary: LIghten up; it's camp
Review: I bought this DVD for my finacee, who is a big fan of the original series. For some reason which might baffle anyone else who's seen the movie, we didn't mind it one bit.

Sure, it's a campy movie, but that's why it's as good as it is. What a flaky TV show that was....but it was funny stuff watching these ultra-brits sipping tea and getting into awfully-choreographed fights with underground secret-society denizens and all-powerful billionaires with unbelievable motives (pant, pant).

My point is, if you liked the show, you'll probably like the movie. Fun, mindless drivel! Good SFX, and kudos the the actors dedicated portrayal of John Steed and Emma Peel. Connery was great (he wears the kilt!), but should have showed up more.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: Totally anticipated, sadly disappointing. I don't think the director had a clue what makes the Avengers tick. It started out flat, the timing was off, and the movie was over before any chemistry ever hit the screen. As they say, all flash, no substance.
