Review: With Patrick Stewart, Mel Gibson, and Julia Roberts how can you lose? Patrick Stewart is excellent as the bad guy. Mel and Julia are superb. It is an action filled rollercoaster ride from start to finish. I was slightly disappointed in the ending. That is why I only gave it 4 stars. Otherwise I would have given it 5.

Review: Is Jerry Fletcher the real thing, or is he suffering from brain-burnout from writing his monthly pamphlett on government conspiracies - only his typewriter knows for sure.This is a nice little romp down way-left-field lane, and Mel Gibson shines at playing characters on the very, very edge of reason. Julia Roberts is very good, revealing her long-suffering patience with Jerry. Patrick Stewart makes an indifferent bad-guy, he can't help it, the plot izzz somewhat goofy. The DVD transfer is excellent as usual! END

Review: A film you may never have heard of, but really should see. Trust me. You may hear the word Hitchcockian thrown around, everyone would like to achieve something that sings of the master, and, so, it gets used when anybody turns a corner and the music makes you jump. You could go a long way before you find anything that has even the slightest resemblance to the works of Sir Alfred.
Well, look no further. No, don't pay attention to the fact that it is Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts (with Patrick Stewart and Director Richard Donner thrown in) Rather see the everyday people thrown into the madness that only real life can destroy us with, and spit us out when it is done. Everyman fights the insanity that shouldn't be happening, but is, like "The Lady Vanishes," "The 39 Steps," even "The Man Who Knew Too Much." These are all precursors of this story of the obviously deranged man who is in love with this fairly normal girl, and is here to protect her from imagined danger. Or is it? Buy your copy of "The Catcher In The Rye" and follow us, it's a ride down the stairs streight-jacketed in a wheel chair!

Summary: A Big Commercial Hit
Review: I think it's a very watchable movie that doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is...a well-crafted, commercial vehicle for two big stars. Gibson was entertaining doing paranoia and Julia Roberts was just fine. I thought both Patrick Stewart and his nose kept you watching. The scene where Gibson takes Roberts to his apartment was clever and funny. But I didn't care for the ending. (Maybe a spoiler ahead) I could see no reason why Hollywood couldn't find a way for Gibson and Roberts to get together.
The movie reminds me in a way of another big, commercial movie with Julia Roberts, The Pelican Brief. Both are obviously made by professionals, both are great popcorn movies, both have interesting set pieces, and both -- for me -- have unsatisfying endings. For the Pelican Brief, I think she should have had, at minimum, a smooch or two with Denzel Washington.

Summary: A well-made bare-bones DVD
Review: I really love this movie and bought this DVD. There are absolutely no extras on this besides subtitles and a few language choices, but it is a well done little DVD and very enjoyable movie. I especially enjoyed seeing Mel's interaction with the nuns riding in his cab in the opening credits in light of his fathers controversial anti-Roman Catholic rants. Enjoy!

Summary: Starts one way, ends another
Review: Mel Gibson plays Jerry, a cab driver who cannot stop talking, and cannot stop generating theories about how seemingly disparate events are really connected, as part of a conspiracy. He brings his ideas to Julia Roberts, playing a Justice Department employee, who patiently and kindly tolerates his bizarreness. Somewhere along the way, one of his theories proves to be true, and draws down the wrath of a high-powered and mysterious government figure, played menacingly by Patrick Stewart, who tortures him to find out how he figured out that A is really connected to Z.
But, is that what's really going on? I'll not give it away, but what you think is happening in the story, after the first twenty minutes, is likely to be very, very off the mark, in the long run.
Before seeing this movie, I was a big fan of Mel Gibson ("The Man Without a Face", "Braveheart", "Forever Young"). I was liking him less after the first twenty minutes of "Conspiracy Theory" after feeling overloaded with his frenetic paranoid ramblings.
Before seeing this movie, I was not a big fan of Julia Roberts, as I saw her as more of a Hollywood star than a good actress.
But, I was patient, finished the film, and was glad that I did so. In the end, I viewed Gibson as even more versatile than I thought, and Roberts as deeper and more talented than I had thought. Oh, and Patrick Stewart is deliciously evil as a villain, almost to the level of Tim Roth's Archibald Cunningham character in "Rob Roy."

Summary: Good fun movie
Review: This movie with Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts is part thriller, part comedy, and entirely entertaining. Out of the 300+ movies that I currently own, this is one of my top 5 for number of viewings. The plot is well summarized by other reviewers, so I won't get into that, but Gibson's performance is just great -- he always does a good job playing the crazy role. The humor weaves in and out of various situations.... the scene with Jerry's apartment burning always leaves me in stitches as Jerry explains to Alice about the aparment and the things in it. Everytime I see this movie I just like it more. See it.

Summary: A SOLID MOVIE, WITH GOOD PERFORMANCES.
Review: "Conspiracy Theory" starts as a comedy, with Jerry (Mel Gibson) spitting conspiracy theories like a machinegun. But after a while, some of them make you laugh and some of them ring true, the movie starts to get more serious and the plot is more and more interesting.
Mel Gibson portrays a lunatic in "Conspiracy Theory", but this is not the first time that he portrays a charismatic looney, remember "Lethal Weapon", his character was almost as psychologically damaged as his role in "Conspiracy Theory". Julia Roberts plays Alice, and she did a good job, Julia is the kind of girl that you would risk your life for her. And the villain is Patrick Stewart, he is a solid actor that pulls his role without a problem.
"Conspiracy Theory" has a smart script, of course, some of the conspiracy plots are meant to make the audience laugh, but if you pay close attention, you might see that some conspiracy theories contain a dose of satire. This is a very interesting movie.

Summary: Gibson Plays a Character Unlike Any He has Played Before
Review: I am a pretty big fan of Mel Gibson. Not the biggest, it is not like he is my favorite movie star, or that I own many of his movies, I don't. But I do really appreciate his work because he is a very gifted actor. Now in most of his movies, like Lethal Weapon or Braveheart, he plays a strong guy, who you do not want to mess with. Never has he played a guy like the one he plays in this movie. In this movie you get to see him play a very funny and likable character who is very paranoid, and seems to have serious problems with women. It was a refreshing new role to see him in and I have to say that I was really impressed. But enough about him let's move on.
Another actor in this movie who seemed to step out of his realm was the great Patrick Stewart, of Star Trek: The Next Generation, or more recently as Proffesor Xavier in the hit X-Men movies. Usually Stewart plays the admirable leader who always chooses the path that is good for everyone, never before this (at least not to my knowldge) has he played a role like this where he is the horrible super villian that is just fun to root against. I mean this guy is very evil, and I was happy to see that Stewart could pull it off, no problem.
Then we move onto Julia Roberts, who I have been gaining more and more respect for her as I go back and look for her in her non chickflick movies, which up until a few years ago I thought those stupid chick flicks were the only kind've movies that she made. She is good in this movie and seems very believable. I had no problem believing her in this part and in the end that is what truly counts.
Now this movie is very well written and very heavilly plotted so in oredr to truly understand it you have to be willing to pay attention throughout the movie. If you just keep your eyes and ears open you should deffinitly get it and enjoy it. If you are too lazy or stupid to try a complex movie then this movie is deffinitly not for you.
This movie is about a cab driver who as you see from the very begginining is exstremly paranoid. He writes a little newsletter that he gives to his subscribers, about ten people more or less, and in this newletter he tells all about the conspiracys he thinks are going on at that time. Then there is Julia Roberts, who Mel Gibsons character seems to be stalking. He goes to her office all the time and tries to tell her of all the crazy junk that he believes is going on so that she would so somthing about it.
Now as you watch this movie you get the feeling that this same routine has been going on for a long time. Eventully though somthing in his latest newsletter sets the government off and suddenly Gibson and Roberts are being chased by an unknown enemy headed by Patrick Stewart. If this intrigues you I suggest that you by the movie to find out the rest of the story, because what I told you is not even close to half of the story. Just be prepared to hear the song I Love You Baby, sung about a million times by the actors throughout the movie, and believe me none of them should be taking ant singing carrears anytime soon. That is about it and I believe it is time for me to say NUFF SAID.

Summary: how do so many people see this film and yet not see it???
Review: I cannot believe how many reviews of this film are so off... This film is about a Vietnam Vet who has been put the the MK Ultra program (the film is plain about this) and is programmed as an assasin. He breaks his programming and this is what the plot is about. This movie has many roots in the truth, if only the American people would wake up and take a look.
