Rating: Summary: A Not-So-Guilty Pleasure Review: I didn't see 1941 when it came out in theaters, because I believed the generally negative reviews it received at the time. I've been kicking myself ever since for never having had the experience of seeing it on the big screen, because that's where all this beautifully-crafted insanity would really shine.1941's brilliant ensemble cast, daring director, and hard-working crew, including special-effects wizard Greg Jein, combined their talents to take viewers back to the opening days of World War II, to a comedic fantasy California in a '41 that never quite was. It has been criticized for being fragmented (it was cut to shreds against director Spielberg's wishes), and lambasted for not being funny. Personally, I laugh my arse off every time I watch it. I'd call it a guilty pleasure, but I'm not at all guilty about loving it. This film has so many brilliant qualities in its writing, design, photography, sound, music, direction, and acting, that I think anyone who appreciates screen comedy should own a copy. Now that the special edition DVD has restored Mr. Spielberg's original intention to this film, I hope it finds a new and appreciative audience in addition to those of us who have loved it for years.
Rating: Summary: Great and HYSTERICAL ! Review: I think Mike from Chicago had one too many baby back ribs. This movie is hysterical. Speilberg directed a comedy classic, and with Belushi, Aykroyd, and John Candy this comedy is of the 5-star variety. One of the funniest movies ever made ! Hey Mike, get a sense of humor, and then watch this again. Maybe you'll laugh like the rest of us !
Rating: Summary: A Director's Cut That Really Really Works Review: Doggone, but this movie works soooo much better with the cut material back in. Pace, character-- it all flows more smoothly. Still a flawed gem, but loads of fun with some killer set pieces. Toss out your video of the studio cut, cleanse your memory, and then watch this. It's afilm not even remotely deserving of the bad rap it's carried over the years.
Rating: Summary: One word says it all: TERRIBLE Review: Hey listen, I'm a HUGE fan of John Belushi, but this my be one of the worst movies you'll ever see. I'm not kiddin' you either. Spielberg did a bad job as a director. There is an all-star cast;Tim Matheson, John Belushi, Dan Akroyd, and John Candy. They tried to have John Belushi play the same type of character as in Animal House and it turned out to be a disaster. If you are thinking of buying or renting this film here is some advice; Do not rent it or buy it. It is a waste of a night.
Rating: Summary: Sillyness knows no bounds Review: This over looked master piece was ignored by the American people, and dismissed by critics. Take another look. It's long, but the feel of the film reminds me of It's a mad, mad ,mad, mad world. Relax, don't be in a hurry and enjoy this comic masterpiece by Spielberg and a cast of thousands. Also worth your time is the making of 1941 included on this DVD.
Rating: Summary: A truly Odd-Ball look at the "home Front". Review: I don't know why this film didn't do better, because it's really a very well made comedy. Forget the hysterics about the seriousness of the war, we all appreciate the efforts of the Americans and the Allies. This, on the other hand, is a wild ride in La La Land, and the type of movie you watch again and again.
Rating: Summary: One of the Phunniest movies ever Review: I can't believe some of the harsh reviews of this movie - it's always been one of my favorites. Any movie that has 2 guys sitting with a wooden dummy in a giant Ferris wheel shooting at planes with a rifle has got to be a hit.
Rating: Summary: Oh God! Put it away! Review: I have this movie and to tell you the truth, it sucks big time. What a waste of time. I am so serious. This movie is 2hrs and 26min long! Ahhh! What a pile of mess! Even Mr. Spielberg himself said that he had no direction for this film. The acting was so cheesy. All it was, was a bunch of people going insane. Yelling and dancing, drinking, fighting, boom, boom, boom, boom, bang, bang, bang. Oh my God. Stop me. This is probably one of the worst films out there. Don't buy. If you don't beleive anything I said, then go RENT the film and see how stupid it is. Just because Steven Spielberg directed it doesn't mean its great. People do make mistakes and this is one of them.
Rating: Summary: "Ahhhhhh, Dumbo" Review: I am sorry to hear that so many people did not like this film. It would have to be one of my all time favorites. Yah, there's a lot of screaming. Yah, there's a lot of running around. Yah, there's a lot of overacting, but this is what makes it so great. No thinking needed. A wonderful sit down-eat a snack-drink a beverage of your choice movie. Don't expect a high quality movie, but do expect a comedy that can leave you laughing. Some great names in there as well.
Rating: Summary: Sucks, sucks, sucks! Review: After hearing about how horrible this film was for years, I decided to check it out, thinking it can't be that bad. Trust me, it is that bad. "1941" is nothing but 2.5 hours of smug, overpaid celebrities screaming and yelling, and trying way too hard to be outrageous. Spielberg's limp, PG-rated attempt at 1970s "slash-and-burn" humor is the obvious precursor of such unfunny "wacky" dreck as "The Cannonball Run." Lame, lame, lame.
