Summary: Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com critic, needs to find a new job
Review: This movie has a near-perfect blend of humor, dialogue, and pure action. If you watch this movie and only see "hatred of women" then you should probably step back and pretend you like movies for entertainment value. Else perhaps you should stop pretending film is a real course of academic study. This movie is one of the best action films ever. It surpasses anything Tony Scott has done and rates higher than any of Bruce Willis' recent work. Further, it is one of the most quotable movies in existence. So buy the movie, call up a few friends, sit back, relax, have a few beers, and laugh together. This one is a highly overlooked action-comedy classic.

Summary: Great Trash Movie
Review: This movie is one of those love it or hate it movies. I loved it. "The Last Boy Scout" is where Bruce Willis is a low down private detective who is hired to watch a stripper. When she is murdered, Willis and the stripper's boyfriend, a fallen NFL hero (Damon Waynes), track down the killers. The conspiracy is all about corruption and pro football gambling. The banter between Willis and Waynes is very funny, although very sexist and racist sometimes. They both are world weary, and have been burned and are disillusioned and cynical, which is where much of the humor comes from. But the action is fast, brutal, and angry. This fast paced thriller is in the vain of "Die Hard" (once again produced by Joel Silver, I love this guy!). Director Tony Scott's hyper speed dircecting keeps the pace in high gear at all times. But there are a lot of things people might not like, like the 12-year-old girl with a mouth like Andrew Dice Clay's. I really dug this movie, it's everything that a "guys movie" should be; violent, vulger, with really seedy humor. Enjoy.

Summary: Awesome movie, definitely not for kids
Review: This movie must go down as one of the best of its type of all time. Wayans and Willis make a fantastic team and I can't believe with all the one-liners between them, that it never made a spin-off TV series attempt. One of the coolest scenes in a movie can be found in here (when Willis first meets Milo by a swimming pool and offs one of his henchmen), but there are so many other quotables and good moments that the film bears repaet viewings. I love Willis, but this is his best and I have nearly worn out my copy. My only wish is that I had seen it at the cinema, but the football theme put my wife off and I had to wait for video.

Review: Though I do not understand why this movie was named "The Last Boy Scout," I was entertained the whole way through. I think it's impossible for someone not to love this film.

Summary: Very trashy but still entertaining action flick
Review: Tony Scott's THE LAST BOY SCOUT may be trash, but for an action flick it is very well-made, highly entertaining trash.

Of course, you could make a very good case against this film. Though I did not find it quite as woman-hating as some of the critics said it was upon the film's release, I would recognize that there is a subtle layer of misogyny throughout the movie---particularly with the two women characters in Joe Hallenbeck's life, his uncaring, cheating wife and his bratty, verbally abusive daughter---that might make some viewers more queasy than I was. And, objectively speaking, THE LAST BOY SCOUT is basically a retread of writer Shane Black's superior LETHAL WEAPON---a more foul-mouthed, ultra-violent retread with a lot of corny humor. This is an all-out testosterone-fest if I've ever seen one. If you've got a problem with people, just punch 'em in the "head or gut"---if anything else, that's the message of this movie. Really, Shane Black, where did your taste go since LETHAL WEAPON and LETHAL WEAPON 2?

Despite all that, though, this movie still delivers what matters most in this genre: thrills and exciting action scenes. Having seen this movie only recently, I must say that it is probably one of the most exciting action pictures I've seen in a long while, perhaps enjoyable because of its excesses. Tony Scott definitely knows how to film action scenes well (the climactic action scenes in the football stadium is a good example of his skill here), and of course he brings his customary slick style to the material. And its plot, involving a ruthless attempt to legalize gambling in pro football, takes some kinda intriguing twists and turns along the way. (It's like a hardcore action-film version of one of those hardboiled detective films of the '40s.)

In short, THE LAST BOY SCOUT is very trashy but still entertaining action movie that can be quite fun to watch, depending on whether you can overlook lapses of character logic (why on Earth is Shelly Marcone giving away his plan of framing Hallenbeck for Senator Baynad's murder just so Hallenbeck can outsmart 'em all?) as well as the more objectionable misogynistic aspects of the film. Personally, I felt a little guilty about enjoying it so much...but not guilty enough not to admit it. Marginally recommended.

Summary: And them some
Review: viewers will get a jolt action . A barrage of one liners A Plot and when you put it all together a great movie that leaves you with a goood feeling knowing that satan clause is out there and Hallenbeck is waiting because he's always gonna be prepared.

Summary: Satan Claus is comin' to town
Review: Y'know, when it comes to action flicks, there's just some occasions where you gotta just kick back and enjoy one of the genre's sillier offerings. One with plenty of the standard cliches and ridiculously implausible, over-the-top moments. And plenty of snappy patter & crackin' wise, too. Oh, and howzabout having our two protagonists be a pair of broken-down & disgraced former 'heroes' who don't particularly care for each other at first, but then start to bond as the flick plays on, leading to what looks like a lasting friendship in the end? Throw in an opening credits sequence featuring a pretty good ape of Hank Williams Jr's Monday Night "Are You Ready For Some Football?" song, one of Halle Berry's earliest roles (where she's practically nekkid, no less!), a ballistic hand-puppet show, and Satan Claus, you get- well, you get something else to see besides... um... all that other stuff!

The big attraction is the echange of the aforementioned "witty" one-liners & banter between our anti-heroes, P.I. Joe Hallenbeck (Bruce Willis) and former pro QB Jimmy Dix (Damon Wayans), as they take out just about every bad guy in their way to get to the big man (which is, like, a totally new idea in action cinema... heh). Their romp through the body count features plenty of meaty head-shots & explosions. Which is the usual Bruce Willis action-flick fare, as most 'Die Hard' freakos know. Throw in a deadly serious, yet fun-loving & slightly fem henchman, and a rebellious, foul-mouthed adolescent daughter who manages to tag along and get herself in big trouble, and you have... well, sort of a cross between 'Lethal Weapon' and 'Die Hard'. Which is no surprise, really, considering this movie's co-producer, Joel Silver, also watched over all four "Lethal"s and the first two "Die Hard"s. Throw in "Lethal" 1 & 2 scribe Shane Black, and you'll understand why Hallenbeck's & Dix's back-and-forth sniping features many uncanny similarities to those legendary Riggs-and-Murtaugh dialogue duels. The fact that Willis is playing a part that's very similar to his "Die Hard" character McClane doesn't clear things up too much, either. Kinda makes one wonder whether or not this movie was originally conceptualized as a possible DH or LW follow-up, but didn't quite cut the mustard with the powers behind either franchise...

...Whoa, I'm giving this WAY too much analysis, which means I'd better get into the DVD special features before I make things even more complex. Actually, aside from a trailer and brief cast & crew filmographies & career bios, there's not much to this particular platter. One side features 'LBS' in widescreen, the other in full-screen pan & scan. You know, just in case those black bars on the top & bottom are too much of a distraction. And, as expected from Warner's home video division, the DVD is stored in a cardboard snap case, rather than a plastic keep case like EVERY OTHER STUDIO uses for their digital disc releases, so don't be expecting too much long-term durability from this particular offering's packaging.

So, in conclusion, if you're looking for a sort of dumb actioner (well, more so than usual anyway) with plenty of really ridiculously implausible moments & really big exit wounds, 'The Last Boy Scout' might just be what you've been looking for! Just put it on your Xmas list, and if you're really good this year, maybe Satan Claus- whoops, SaNtA Claus- will deliver it to you for yuletide!

'Late
