Summary: review of C-roD defageo
Review: First of all, I just want to point out to all you critics that you must be smoking dust to actually think this movie was a dissappointment. Now I was not old enough to understand or appreciate this flick when it made its debut in 1993 becuase I was only 4 at the time, but as I was going down the isles in Best Buys the other day, I happen to come across "SMB" in the "on sale section(that's where all the FOB's shop for video's)". I bought it for just the pleasure of constantly watching it over and over again. Now to talk about the movie itself.
In the city of Brooklyn, two pumbers(Hoskins & Leguizamo) meet a beautiful arcioloegist(matheis) who just discovered dinosaur bones at a contruction site. While visiting the site, two idiots Iggy and Spike capture Daisy which gets the plumbers to go to "Dinohatten"; a parrallel universe where people evolved from dinosaurs. King Koopa(Hooper) the ruler of the dino world wants an object of Daisy's which can bring both worlds together and cause total destruction!
A must see film.

Summary: My Childhood is Dead
Review: My father took me to see this movie when it came out in 1993. I was terribly excited; I loved Mario and Luigi, and, while the movie confused me, I actually enjoyed it.

So when I was cruising around Amazon.com one day, I saw the movie for only 10 bucks! So I ordered it.

I figure the only reason that I liked this movie when I was 10 is for the same reason that kids dare each other to eat worms.

All I can say is . . . wow. In the space of 90 horrible minutes, my inner child died. Yoshi looks like a disgusting booger. Luigi has no mustache. No Princess Toadstool. And Koopa's some evil businessman with stupid hair.

After the movie, I sat down and cried. I cried harder than when Optimus Prime died. I cried harder than I did when I found out that Cobra Commander was an alien. I cried for all the children of the world and their shattered dreams, for Mario, our hero, had come in the form of Bob Hoskins--and he had destroyed our hopes, our aspirations.

In other words, save the ten dollars. Go buy a Ninja Turtle if you're really desperate to re-discover your inner child.

Summary: Mario and Luigi on the big screen..not so good
Review: putting Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo as the plumber brothers Mario and Luigi. Samantha Mathis is Princess Peach and Dennis Hopper is the boring King Bowser. some good moments here and there but whats the deal yo. the games are better then this monstrousity. damnit...they should of made a cartoon version. Leguizamo and Hoskins are ok as the brothers but wow.....not good and the Yoshi dinosaur is idiotic

Summary: So Zany and Senseless It's Great, IMO of course
Review: The story is absurd, despite it being inventive enough... It isn't a real movie version of the adventure, but more like a movie starring the characters, with constant bits of homage to the original series, such as a "Thwump" store, sniffits, the character's occasional and believable super-jump trademark, a dino named Yoshi, and last but by no means least, a GREAT scene with a Ba-Bomb (who was wearing Reebok shoes, which was funny!!).

Being the first movie ever based on a game (unless you count Clue), and also being inspired by a series that didn't call for the slightest bit of realism, this movie didn't have much call for reality. It's not sci-fi, but pure fantasy (meaning the plot's fiction isn't just the existance of the story's elements, but every plot sequence is based on how the world the movie takes place in is much unlike our own). Luckily, the screenplay, while sometimes quirky and silly, does call for some great moments, usually revolving around Koopa's idiot cousins Iggy and Spike (my favorite example - Spike:"Wrong again...how many times have we gotten it wrong?" Iggy:"YOU've gotten it wrong five times!" Spike:"Over five...OVER five...what percent is that?" Iggy:"I don't know, let me think......I don't know, but it's not good!" -- they couldn't figure out 100%!!).

Also going with the movie on a few other nice points are the performances of the main characters: Mario, Luigi, Koopa, Daisy, Iggy & Spike, which are nice and solid, despite that they don't really resemble the image of the characters themselves (especially Koopa). Hoskins does great in a more laid back role than say in 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit?', while John Legizamo starts off his more energetic personna that was used very well in his standup routine in the late 1990's, and he was enjoyable to the point in which whenever I see 'Moulin Rouge', I'm always like "YEAH!! LUIGI!!" (not to knock Moulin Rouge, a masterpeice in it's own, albeit weird). Samantha Mathis is another strong performance, as well as a beauty on screen as Daisy, the princess in distress, albeit she doesn't have many good moments to herself. And Dennis Hopper, whether you like him or not, is undeniably good in villainous roles like this...here he plays a meglomaniacal dictator of an entire civilization, but again, sadly he has fewer memorable moments than Mario and Luigi, which is a shame, as Koopa is one of the most popular villains of all time.

However, if you don't think the screenplay or casting were anygood, there are four things that this movie excells in, that are undeniable: superb special effects (from puppets to some amazing CGI for 1993), art design that's out of this world (from fungus to flashy lights to spikes on the clothes and walls of the buildings), intense action sequences, which are very high in pyrotechnics, flashing lights, and explosions, and a brilliant musical score, courtesy of Alan Silvestri (responsible for almost 80 movies so far, from the Father of the Bride movies to Roger Rabbit, to the Predetor's, to the Mummy Returns)! In my opinion, these three aspects warrent this movie a watching, as it's very high in production values!

I really can't understand why people hate this movie. It's not sophisticated, but it is intelligently enjoyable....Con Air is undeniably smart, although I certainly wouldn't call that movie sophisticated, would you? I think not! Yet still it's a great movie! Perfectly combining parody, B-movie aspects, and advanced sci-fi, this movie spells out perfect cult-classic, and I'm one of those who does like it! I won't even try to talk you into it if you hate it, but I just feel that this movie is good for its own reasons. If you're into zany, partially senseless, partial sci-fi type movies, this one just might be for you.

Summary: Wacky Cult Classic
Review: Forgetting about how it was "nothing like the games" this is actually an ok movie. The best part was the little tiney walking Bob-omb at the end of the movie. It really stole the scene. But if you want to watch a movie about some wacky plumbers who make there way to a dimension with dinosaur creatures...then this is THE only movie you will need to see. It's one of the best vidoe gmae movies out there actually (amongst the horrible: Street Fighter, Tomb Raider, and Mortal Kombat movies).

Summary: Plain old silly fun!
Review: This is one of those movies that drive the critics crazy. They can't figure out what to do with it. After all movies are made to cause a suspension of belief and just plain old entertain. This is funny, actually kind of interesting if a person is into hard scifi, romantic in a silly way, scary if you consider Koopa and is transformation. Yea it is a dinosaur movie. And worth four if not five stars.

Now on to a complaint. I purchased a copy at a discount store and it was chopped to pieces. I saw the original movie, yea folks I am over the hill but still can't get enough Scifi, crazy comedy, and scary movies.

The store bought version was ruined by whoever did the editing. I can't even grasp why they cut so much of the movie in the places they cut. Scenes that helped make some sense of the craziness were gone leaving me scarmbling to figure out what was cut. The Viewer has to sort of either suspend belief and start over like it was a new movie to them or get angry and find a full uncut version which apparently is very hard to do.

I am going to try this version on Amazon and see what happens. If it is cut like the other one, I will really be p. o'ed. The price is right but if the full story isn't there, whats the point, right?

Good movie over all.

Summary: Cheaper elsewhere
Review: This is a great movie and worth any price however, I was at a Best Buy store recently and paid $5.99 plus tax. (BTY: it was not on sale but instead the everyday low price.)

Summary: Just Recived it
Review: I use to have this film recorded on vidio and recorded over it and was regreting it. I bought it on Dvd. The quality is exellent and it is in widescreen it's a shame there's no Dvd extra's but it's stil a class film one of my all time favourates. It's based on the video game about Mario and Luigi tryinhg to save Princess Daisy from another dimention where diosaurs are still alive and are trying to get back from earth. I'm also glad that yoshi is on it. It reminds me of the game Super Mario World. It's well worth getting for any Mario fan

Summary: Loved it then and I love it now
Review: I love this movie alot of people critize it but its good the acting is a little chessy at times ut they picked good actors and some funny jokes, whats also good about the jokes is thier not childish to the point your eyes water in embarassment, there is awesome explosions anything kids would like I liked it when I was 7 and it still holds up today. The "Princess" gets taken bakc to dinohattan where she is forced to join king bowser and mario and luigi go and save her, like the game with good action and very likeable characters, Bob Hoskins does a great job playing Mario he makes good jokes about things in general, John Leguizamo is also good as Luigi the younger brother, Dennis Hopper is good in all his movies and this one is no execption, and Samatha Mathis is also pretty hot too, if you want a good movie for any age (even though it was aimed at kids) check this out, but there is alot of action and gore (cartoonish gore) in this so be a bit prepared to see some stuff youd never see in a PG movie. Enjoy!! Also look for Mojo Nixon and Lance Heneriksen in Cameos.

Summary: Can two plumbers save the world from going down the drain?
Review: A word to filmgoers: go into this knowing that this is nothing like the game (This isn't necessarily a bad thing). That said, on to the review. Mario Mario (Bob Hoskins) and Luigi Mario (John Leguizamo) are plumbers in Brooklyn, New York who are less than sucessful. Their rival, the Scapelli Construction Company, is driving them down the toilet (no pun intended), and it looks like they will never get a job. One day, Luigi meets Daisy (Samatha Mathis), the foreperson for a college archeolegical dig, and is being pressured by Scapelli to move. In the caverns underneath the site, the adventure begins when Daisy is kidnapped and taken to another dimension by Iggy (Fisher Stevens) and Spike (Richard Edson) under lings of evil King Koopa, who wants a meteroite piece Daisy has had since birth to merge this dimension and our dimension, becoming the ruler of both worlds. The Marios must stop Koopa before he destroys both worlds, as that's what merging them would do.

Critics and moviegoers despise this one because it is not faithful to the game, but then again, neither is Resident Evil (2002). The performances are great, and the writing, although confusing at times, is great. The DVD offers a widescreen version of the film, with little grain present and good video, and a Dolby Digital 2.0 surround track, providing good sound. Once again, Hollywood Pictures leaves out any extras, making it for people who want to upgrade and not worry about change. Good movie, subpar DVD.
