Summary: This, unfortunately, has to be my favorite movie
Review: For all those people who are totally tearing the movie, you will probably grow up to be critics. It IS true that the movie will never be on any The Best of The Century's Movies list, but if you're looking for entertainment: Mario Bros. are your men. The movie is not made to be believable: two "brothers" get trapped in another dimension while trying to save Luigi's kind of girlfriend, who happens to be the princess of this strange world. The princess is trying to reverse the damage King Koopa did to her father (he turned him into a giant ball of fungus). In the end, the Mario Bros. save the day (did you expect a different ending?). Don't expect a recreation of the game; this movie is a far cry from any version of Super Mario. I have watched and rewatched this movie since I was little and I STILL have to say that it is my favorite. The plot line is a wee bit out there, yes; it's not like the game, that's true; all the aspiring critics out there will not get into it, unfortunately; but for all you normal people out there who don't care what the rest of the world thinks about reality and just want a nice, quiet night to yourself or with a loved one: check this out.

Summary: "Glug! Glug! Glug! Glug! GLUG!" -Mario and Luigi
Review: DETAILS.
Me and my little brother absolutley LOVE this movie. I first bought it on VHS at a pawn shop in Texas when our mother went to visit a relative, we would watch it at least 3 times daily! It was funny and somewhat touching at the same time.

ACTORS.
Bob Hoskins makes a great Mario. John Leguizamo is funny as (a teen-aged) Luigi. Samantha Mathis is good as Princess Daisy (a Peach Toadstool ripoff) in her own kind of way. And Dennis Hopper does great as King Koopa.

PLOT.
In Brooklyn, New York, a couple of struggling plumbers, Mario and Luigi Mario (aka The Mario Brothers.), are having problems with a rival plumbing company, owned and named after a ruthless businessman called Scapelli. While across town, a dino bone digger named Daisy is also having trouble with Scapelli and his men (what she doesn't know is: she is being pursued by Spike and Iggy, 2 kidnappers responsible for the weird dissapearances of several females). Scapelli's men are trying to sabatoge Daisy's work by flooding, blasting and all kinds of other havoc. She calls upon the Mario Bros. to help stop the Scapelli-caused leak, but in the process, Spike and Iggy sucessfully catch Daisy. Mario and Luigi follow the kidnappers to ANOTHER DIMENSION where they find a city filled with people that EVOLVED FROM DINOSAURS!!!! King Koopa wants Daisy because she has a special meteorite piece (a fragment of a huge meteor that struck the earth when dinosaurs walked the earth and created a dimension between Brooklyn and "Dinohatten") she wears all the time. When this chipped-off chunk is inserted to the rest of the asteriod (by Daisy herself because SHE is the only one who "has the force"), Koopa and his Dino People will emerge to our dimension and take over the world!

Summary: Where's the DVD edition for this???
Review: Okay, to start off this is my fav V.G. (Video Game) based movie! Mario and Luigi have been the #1 heroes of all time, and this movie tells how it all began. In the city of Brooklyn, a beautiful princess has been kidnapped by villains from a parallel universe. Now... 2-plumbers, Mario (Bob Hoskins) and Luigi (John Leguizamo) must travel to the deceased Mushroom kingdom (a.k.a. "Dino Hatten") to rescue Princess Daisy, and defeat the evil King Koopa (Dennis Hopper).

This has got to be THE best game-based movie ever made! (sorry, but "Double Dragon" & "Mortol Kombat" sucked.) I liked the goombas(who'd thought they'd be that huge?), the bob-ombs with the Reebok shoes, and of course... YOSHI!!! (one of the main reasons why I'd watch the movie! He's cool!). And to just imagine that Toad is a carefree musician. All in all, I'd have to say that though many fans were disapointed, this is the closest HOLLYWOOD has come to making it just like the REAL thing. There's plenty of action, thrills, and let's not forget the FIREPOWER!!! It's clever and funny at the same time! (the old lady at that one scene was just hysterical!) However, I wish they'd put this on DVD for once(with the theatrical trailers, deleted scenes, the making of and cast interviews.) CHECK IT OUT!!! It's not as bad as some think!

Summary: SMB forever
Review: I know that most people dislike video game movies, especially OLD video game movies, but SMB is just too much fun to pass up. All the characters are hilarious and the special effects are pretty good for such an old movie. The continuity in the plot is well-done as well, its not just a bunch of special effects and gun-shots.
I remember watching this movie for the first time when I was seven or eight and loving it. When I saw it on DVD years later I knew I had to buy it, and I STILL laugh the whole time. For someone who grew up through the game revoltion (I still have an original Nintendo system) this movie is as nostaglic as it is funny. I really recommend it.

Summary: hilarious fun
Review: For a movie based on a video game, this is pretty damn good. John Leguizamo who plays Luigi is the funniest actor alive. I love this guy! The only problem with this movie is that the princess is Daisy and not Peach. The bomb-ombs play a huge part and "King Koopa" is excellent. A must for any Mario fan and if you wanna have some fun, get this. Plumbers to the rescue ;)

Summary: Certainly not the Worst Movie Ever!
Review: This is definately worthy of the MST3K treatment. It's really lame! Super Mario Bros. is about as playful and challenging as an unplugged pinball machine. While it isn't as bad as it is said to be, it is an early example of why videogames don't make good movies. Oh well, it's definately worthy of an MST3K treatment.

Summary: Most twisted movie ever...
Review: Undescribable really...excellent movie for those of you who are hardcore nintendo fans and a collector in general. Don't miss out on this!

Summary: Hey, I liked the movie
Review: The acting really isn't that bad and neither is the plot. Overall, the movie is silly. But I think that was the intention. Some of the special effects and visuals were not top quality. In the elevator scene, a goomba creature has a foam lizard head and the lower jaw gets bent. A ba-bomb gets pulled by a thin wire that you can see. But there are great parts, such as the dancing and use of music in the Boom Boom Bar.

I do wish this movie was made about 5 years later. While it has good special effects(other than the poorly done ones), it could have had better if they had waited. It would have been right up there with Men in Black. But this movie is still special to me, as a Nintendo gamer. Luigi's clothing was great, a little 80's, but had me wanting to wear the same. Little touches like that helps the film feel like a video game hangout.

Summary: What the heck!?
Review: INTRODUCTION:
By the time the nineties rolled around, Nintendo was, without question, the king of the video game industry. By far, the company's most successful gaming franchise was Super Mario Bros. And in the early-mid nineties, a Super Mario Bros. movie was released! But was this a good idea? Read on and find out.

BASIC PLOT:
As anyone who has played the games knows, Mario (Bob Hoskins) and Luigi (John Leguizamo) are two plumbers who get pulled into an alternate dimension to do battle with the Koopa tribe. Things are a little different in the movie, though. Through an odd twist of coincidences, the two plumbers find themselves imprisoned in an alternate universe. After some time, they learn that a guy named Koopa is the one responsible for the chaos in this alternate world. They manage to escape their imprisonment, and look for a way to destroy Koopa once and for all.

FILM OPINIONS:
Can anyone say "horrible film"? If I didn't know better, I'd swear the maker of this movie was just using the Super Mario Bros. name for publicity! The storyline couldn't have been worse. It's so inaccurate to the game that it isn't even funny. In the games, Mario and Luigi are obviously in the same age group, and both have mustaches, but in this film, only Mario has a mustache. And Bob Hoskins looks like he's at least ten years older than John Leguizamo. This makes it hard to believe that they are brothers at all. And all that junk Koopa said about being a humanoid being that descended from dinosaurs is also inaccurate. In the games, Bowser (and this movie never once uses the name Bowser!) is just a humanoid turtle. The Goombas are another inaccuracy. In the games, they're basically evil mushrooms, but in this game, they're huge reptilian creatures that tower over the average human! But the worst thing of all is, by far, the atmosphere of the movie. The game version of the Mushroom Kingdom is a simplistic place, while in the movie, it's bascially a modern city! Another problem is the lack of believable weaponry. You know those big guns the Goombas have? Those are just Super Scopes! (The Super Scope was essentially the Super Nintendo version of the Zapper accessory.) And also, Yoshi looks horrible. And don't get me started on the Bob-Omb with Reebok shoes... This movie couldn't have been a whole lot worse. As a loyal fan of Mario for years, this was a very bitter disappointment. The saving grace is that the film features Megadeth's Breakpoint - one of the finest nineties metal songs there is. Also, John Leguizamo and Bob Hoskins did a good job filling their roles - too bad the rest of the movie flat out blew.

OVERALL:
Stay clear of this film. I don't think I have to say anything else.
