Summary: Sexy, smokin', sizzlin', sultry...
Review: This was an excellent film role for Madonna. Enough said.

She performed the songs "Sooner Or Later", "More" and "What Can You Lose" in the film. These tracks can be found on her album "I'm Breathless: Music From And Inspired By The Film DICK TRACY"

"...You don't know whether you want to hit me or kiss me...I get alot of that..."

Summary: MADONNA SHINES!!!
Review: Warren Beatty is just OK as Dick Tracy. Pacino is fantastic as Big Boy. And the cameos are hilarious. But the only problem is that all of the actors are outshined by Madonna. Easily her best role until "Evita" six years later, Madonna steals EVERY scene she's in. She's given the best lines ("You don't know if you wanna hit me or kiss me."), a stunning wardrobe, and has one of the most glamorous characters to grace the screen in years. And the film's best moments aren't the loud action sequences, but her songs "More", "What Can You Lose?", and the Oscar winning "Sooner Or Later". Yet one of the biggest flaws in the film is that her absolutely stunning singing performances are sliced into other scenes and are uncomplete (to hear the full versions, check out her album "I'm Breathless"). Another reason why Madonna works so well in this film is the fact that most of the characters are simply cardboard cut-outs with no real purpose. Not true in Madonna's case. Breathless is a deep character who has much emotion and complexity. She's not a typical blonde bombshell, but then again, neither is Madonna.

Summary: It was the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: I never thought anything that said Dick Tracy could be this good. I never really even liked Dick Tracy stuff, but this movie is GREAT! The highest possible reccomendation!!!!!

Summary: Almost Excellent
Review: This film comes together much better than I expected. I think that Warren Beatty, an otherwise terrific actor, lacks something as Dick Tracy. He's too sober. I once read that someone thought Bruce Willis would have been perfect as Tracy. I think that that casting would have made this film a classic....a missed opportunity. I still recommend it as great fun.

Summary: I'm only buying this movie to look at madonna
Review: I mena i did enjoy this movie very much, as a kid I was taken to see it in the theatre, and I enjoyed it very much, especially seeing Madonna playing a seductres In Breathless Mahoney.
Seeing her prancing around looking the way she did, in those amazing outfits, at the height of her fame and beauty, Might not have been the best thing for a young 11 year old boys mind.
But I'm sure as hell am not complaining, then and now.
The movie is a very cute pop corn summer action flick, very nior, very hokey, and most of very enjoyable.
And of coarse, Madonna. OUCH!!!!

Summary: Entertaining Detective Noir Film
Review: I don't believe the reason this movie was good was because it had box office success. I don't believe this movie was good because it was complex.

Dick Tracy is like the gangster-noir films of the '30s, '40s and '50s with a heavy importance placed on the visuals. The visuals fit the events, and one gets a feeling of film noir that is totally new and relevant. Using visuals to tell the story can be more important than the plot, since the art of film deals with a visual medium.

I also don't understand how people would reject Danny Elfman's score, which is fun and seems to fit the comicbook theme and subject. Elfman's music actually goes somewhere, whereas I will never understand the greatness of, let's say, John Williams, whose music I generally reject as hollow and uneducated.

The cast is amazing, and Madonna in particular is actually good in her role as "Breathless Mahoney" contrary to the actress' awful reputation.

Movies should be judged on their CINEMATIC QUALITIES. If the film were not a film, but a book instead, people's hard criticisms might be justified.

Summary: childhood favorite
Review: I grew up with this movie and still love it to this day. By today's standards, it's a movie with bloodless violence that kids can watch. Guarunteed they've seen much worse. Adults can also sit through this movie, as it has a plot, and also tons of big-name actors. Al Pacino gives a priceless performance as the gung-ho visionary, Big Boy Caprice. I love his role in this movie. Even as a kid I enjoyed his ruthlessness,-"Next time I take his fingers, and I turn them into pretzels. I just might do the same thing to your face." ((SHHMACK!!)) "See? He's playing better already." Holy smokes! That was of course towards Madonna's character, Breathless Mahoney; a seductive sex-pot (a real strech for Madonna) who's hell bent on stealing Dick Tracy (Warren Beaty) from his girlfriend. The countless villians in this movie make it fun to try and recognize the stars in character.
All in all, a good movie. Maybe a little slow for adults, and maybe for the young generation of today as well, who are already desensitized to endless profanity and mindless gore. Just think of it as a G-rated gangster flick.

Summary: one of the best movies ever
Review: Seriously, first off, if it was such a bad movie as some ignorant losers have suggested, then why was it a blockbuster at the box office? that's right. and you could say that most of the people in this world are stupid, but that is only excuse to cover up YOUR own stupidity. this is a great movie, so just deal with it.

I like how this movie has those comic-like colors in it, it sets it alive as a comic-book movie actually. I never read the comics but I saw the movie and that was enough for me. True, Warren Beatty could have put a tad bit more emotion into this role, he comes off as all Steven Segal like, all calm for the most part and that sort of thing. Either way though, this film is badarse and it features a lot of villians such as (and I will describe them a bit so you know who they are) Flat Top (has a flat head), Itchy (scratches his neck), Influence (has a kind of sunken face), Pruneface (you will know him when you see him), Big Boy Caprice (ditto), The Blank (ditto), Mumbles (ditto) etc. Which who are, apparently villains from the comic books. Others from the comic books that are in this movie are Shoulders (has wide shoulders, The Brow (has a couple wide lines above his eyes), Rodent (you will know who he is when you see him), and Little Face (ditto) even though they appear for a couple of brief moments but still...Al Pacino is so great in this movie as Big Boy Caprice, one of his best roles since Scarface. And Madonna, wow..this movie was made back when she was hot. Now she is not of course. But she is so sexy in this movie it is kinda sad to see her in it, and then see her right now...oh well.

In short, this movie is worth buying.

Summary: A colorful cocksure incarnation.
Review: This film is an over-the-top, glorious production filled with comic book color schemes, fantastic makeup effects, and superb costume design. All the performances are either subdued and nuanced or grandiose and overblown. There is no middle ground here with regards to characterization. The good guys are nice and the bad guys are nuts! The star of this film is Warren Beatty who is genuinely inspired here as Director, Producer, and leading man of this stellar creation. For what it's worth this film won 3 Oscars back in 1990 for Best Art Direction(superb), Best Makeup(surreal), and Best Song("Sooner or Later"). I recently saw this film, having only a faint memory of thoroughly enjoying it long ago, and it has aged surprisingly well. There is the occasional, short-lived moment of a running joke that needs to be quickly discarded or it will get old; and some of the acting is so ridiculous at times as to strain suspension of disbelief; but for the most part this film is just plain fun. That, and Madonna looks and acts absolutely scalding in a memorable supporting role. This is a good movie with many scenes worth revisiting. Recommended.

Summary: Outta Chicago, by Hopper
Review: Not Dennis, but Edward Hopper, painter of lonely souls in harsh-lit diners. Well worth a watch, if only for its wall-to-wall ugliness. Beatty does a great impersonation of Elliot Ness, aka Robert Stack, who had the most immobile features in the business. This is history: how the American mid-West dream was destroyed by urban corruption and big-city values, and, of course, Prohibition. An object-lesson in the way pure comic-book stereotypes can make you think a bit. Someone said this film was disturbing. It is. Nietzche and Plato are defeated by simple family values. Who wrote these songs ? Was it Sondheim, or someone else called Elfman? Madonna is great, but the songs just seem ordinary, to me. I guess Sondheim is an acquired taste I haven't acquired yet. Great cast, great acting, very unusual design, direction, many good lines and all that, but all over a little too hideous to swallow in the end. Mutton stew gone cold.
