Summary: "Oh, I'm sorry. Did I break your concentration?"
Review: Words cannot express how much I love this movie, but I will try my best. "Pulp Fiction" is one of my favorites. Quentin Tarantino is a very gifted director/writer. Although I love his directing, I must say it is his writing that really impresses me. But I will get to that later on in this review.

I think it's safe to say that the first time this movie was released on DVD, it was a little more than disappointing. There were no special features, sound and picture was so-so; I mean, my laserdisk at least had three different trailers of the movie. So, of course, I was very excited to learn that this movie was being re-released in a fully loaded special edition. Re-buying the movie was well worth it, for this edition of the movie is far superior than the other one.

The movie really consists of three different stories; not in any order. Any one of the stories could be their own little movies. The players are two hitmen, a boxer, the big boss, the big boss' wife, a crazy gun store owner, a gimp, a cop named, Zed, a man who makes problems go away, and a little suitcase with "666" for the combination. You add all this together and you get one hell of a movie.

The acting is more than superb; including one terrific cast with some heavy hitters (Travolta, Jackson, Thurman, Willis, etc.). Tarantino is a master when it comes to writing and directing. Especially when it comes to writing. I have never heard such clever and brutally honest dialogue in any other movie. I have said it before, and I will say it again; Tarantino reminds me of Raymond Carver, except with more humor.

Now, on to the special edition of this DVD. Is it better than the previous version? YES! Tons of special features, and not to forget the fact that the movie has been restored in high definition. Picture looks very clear. And the sound is also a lot better. You can watch the movie in DTS, which is always a good thing.

Special features.....where do I begin? There's a ton of them! It's not even funny how much stuff is loaded on this bad boy. And every one of them is great. Features include a documentary, an interview with Tarantino on "The Charlie Rose Show," trailers, filmographies, and many more. If you love special features, then you will not be disappointed.

"Pulp Fiction" is a great movie, and the new DVD edition is outstanding in every way. If you still have the older DVD of this movie, get this one now! If you haven't seen it yet, check it out when you can! Of course, with any other movie, there is a chance you may not like this movie. That's fine, nothing wrong with that. Don't let hype ruin your preception of the movie, just watch it as if it were any other movie. You like it, great; if not, well, at least you gave it a shot. Filled with sharp humor, great characters, outstanding dialogue, and some of the craziest surprises and twists, "Pulp Fiction" is a wonderful film, and will continue to be one of my favorites.

Summary: Modern Masterpiece!
Review: 1994 was a great year in movies, you had your " Forrest Gump", " Shawshank Redemption", " Lion King", " Interview with the Vampire" and this one.

Quentin Tarantino has created a modern crime epic beyond the boundries of mainstream Crime flicks, three stories of Crime, violence, lust, drugs and knowlege of fast food places in other countries.

John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson give great performances including Uma Thurman and Bruce Willis. This is simple cinematic perfection all the way, if your a DVD movie lover, check this one out.

Summary: Let's twist again in DTS
Review: When "Pulp Fiction" first made it onto DVD, the disc's images had all the charm of an over-inked Dick Tracy strip, garish and pummeled by artless contrast. This criminal neglect is avenged -- and then some -- by Miramax's terrific two-disc release of "Pulp Fiction: Collector's Edition."

A lot of the "Pulp" extras appeared on Criterion's laserdisc, though a few recent interviews are cut in. Those seeking Quentin Tarantino's take on his work and cinema in general have plenty to chew on. Some of the most interesting and coherent material comes on a pre-"Jackie" interview by Charlie Rose that appears on "Pulp." DVD-ROM links that lead to script/movie comparisons. The script viewer's version of "Pulp" includes scenes taken out during editing, as they would have appeared. Travolta does a lot of stunting with his lines, but they still come out Tarantino.

"Pulp's" outtakes are less compelling, mostly chatter cut for quality reasons. On-the-set footage includes the shooting of Travolta's big twist-contest number with Thurman, adding a few moments of music and dance to the delicious scene. Just off camera, Tarantino twists along to Chuck Berry's "You Can Never Tell."

The celebrated soundtrack to "Pulp" sounded OK on the original DVD; here it's elevated into audiophile territory. Dick Dale's pipeline guitar gives shivers; a cover of one of Neil Diamond's old hits erects a wall of sound. "Pulp" audio options are DTS and Dolby Digital, but the mix is mostly stereo, with some tasty reverb echoes from the rear now and then.

"Pulp's" video transfer takes a while to reveal its finesse, but the images are rich in leather-booth reds and shell-shock whites. Detail such as sesame seeds on a bun pop out at times, while other scenes deliberately go with the grain.

Summary: Oh, yeah!
Review: Thank goodness this collector's DVD was released when it was, because I've just about worn out my original release version!

From the first time I saw Pulp Fiction in a theater, I've been just amazed at how complex and *perfect* it is. I hate to fawn over something like that, but each time I watch it (and I've watched it dozens of times) I find some new detail, or some dialog I never "got" before.

If you've been living in seclusion for eight years and have no idea what Pulp is about, I won't spoil the plot(s) for you -- suffice it to say there are three main stories whose characters and plots are intertwined through the film. The first viewing may be a bit confusing, as the film doesn't progress in strict chronolgical order, but it all makes sense at the end. It really is an amazing feat that Tarantino pulled off: to weave all this together, keep the stories moving, yet make it all make sense. Wow! There's a lot of talk about how "violent" the film is, but when you critically and objectively watch it, there's really less actual, on-screen violence than you might see in an average hourlong TV cop drama. What is shocking to many people, though, is that much of the violence is portrayed in a darkly-humorous manner (cleaning up after Marvin, for example). The violent acts themselves aren't played for humor; if anything, Tarantino uses these scenes to shock the viewer back to full attention ("Did he really just say/do that?!?").

The cast is incredible, with too many great performances to list separately. However, John Tavolta and Samuel L. Jackson *must* be mentioned, as they were absolutely stunning in their roles. Their characters almost defy description, as they can go from carrying out a "hit" to discussing the meaning of apparent heavenly miracles in the same scene -- from everyday talk about what the French call a "Quarter Pounder with Cheese" to the meaning and purpose of their lives. Jackson is superbly intense; I can't imagine anyone else playing the character Jules. Travolta, though, is the real surprise. His film career had hit a valley when he took this role, and it truly put him back on top. He is so convincing, yet the character Vincent is so "out of character" from what we've seen him play before, that his "convincing-ness" is all the more laudable.

The film itself deserves five stars, and the extra material on this release is worth at least another five to any Pulp devotee. In my opinion, the hourlong Charlie Rose interview with Tarantino is worth the extra cost of the collector's edition alone -- yet, there's much more. The Siskel & Ebert show on Tarantino's films (to that date) is wonderful, as is the Michael Moore interiew (which pains me to say, as I normally hate Moore's "work"...). For viewers with DVD-ROM capable PCs, there's a synchronized trivia game and screenplay viewer, among other extras, as well as an "open mic" feature that allows viewers to do their own running commentary. [There is no director's commentary on the DVD, as Tarantino doesn't do these. Note to Quentin:" *please* reconsider, because I'm sure there are a huge number of fans who'd like to hear *your* commentary, rather than make up their own. Even a commentary by someone else (critic, film scholar, etc.) would be welcome.]

The video is in widescreen anamorphic format [as God intended DVD films to be(!)], and the Dolby audio track is of excellent quality. Having seen the Laserdisc transfer, this is as good (or better), with many more features.

If you love Pulp Fiction, go thou and buy. If you've never seen it, but your interest has been piqued by all the hype, this is an excellent introduction to the world of Quentin Tarantino. His best film to date, and the best transfer to date -- I highly recommend it!

Summary: DVD-ROM users rejoice!
Review: While I was dissapointed that there was no commentary on the new DVD, I was thrilled to discover that I could make my own! I've watched the movie 4 times since getting the DVD, and each time it was slightly different because of the surrounding Rom features! Besides the "Open Mic" feature, there's also a trivia game, pop-up info, and interactive screenplay. If you have a DVD-ROM drive in your computer, definitely check this out! Miramax should market this disc as computer software!

Summary: Citizen Kane for Tarantino...
Review: Pulp fiction as been talked and written about ever since is was released. Everyone has their Favorite scene and/or line from the movie. But what I have noticed is that no matter how many times I watch it, I can't get over how good the dialog is in every scene and how we accually want to know more about ever character in the movie. Tarantino made in my opinion a movie equal in stature to Citizen Kane and The Godfather. But like what Kane and The Godfather both did to Wells and Coppala, Pulp Fiction will over shadow every other movie Tarantino makes. He will never top it. Because it is both a great movie and a cult hit. It is a must see for and film buff.

Summary: I wish I could give it more than five stars!
Review: Pulp Fiction, although one of the most imitated movies on it's time, is the real deal. It is exciting, funny, and original. Tarantino follows "Resevior Dogs" with this innovative film. The film is divided up into three stories, and a prologue. The stories are all interrealted and very entertaining. The stories are about two hit men, a boxer and his girlfriend, the hit men's boss and his wife and two very funny robbers.
What is so clever about this film is that it isn't moved along by the action. There are plenty of action scenes and violent seens in the film, but what keeps the film interesting was what would have been cut by a big time producer. Tarantino's independent approach to the movie helped it maintain its originality. The movie is fueled by dialogue. In one scene, the two hit men delay arriving at their tagets place by discussing hamburgers (Ryale with Cheese) and foot massages. It has it's share of other funny lines ("Zed's dead baby, Zed's dead.")
I loved this movie, and it is in my top five. It is outrageously original and strikingly funny. It is the perfect film of the 90's.

Summary: Colorful but strictly for the boors
Review: There's not one whiff of originality, wit or intellgence in this mindless exercise in condescension & self-indulgence. Definitely the work of someone who worked in a video shop for far too long.

Summary: You'll Love The Film Even More
Review: I have been waiting for this 2-disc SE of Pulp Fiction since it was announced several months ago and I am not disappointed. It is just absolutely fantastic. Most importantly, IMHO, disc one features a brand new 16:9 enhanced transfer that improves upon the old DVD. Second, the extras are fantastic. I don't need to list them all, but if you love Pulp Fiction now, your appreciation for the film will only increase after going through all the supplements. So order a Vanilla Coke, put some bourbon in it if you like, and enjoy the ride.

Summary: Liked it alot!
Review: I just saw this film for the first time this week, and I really enjoyed it! All of the stories in the film were great, however, I could have done without the ... scene. Other than that, this film was very well done, and the acting was great! Samuel L. Jackson's character stood out among the rest. The way he tries to redeem himself near the end of the movie was beautiful. I was totally surprised. Quentin Tarantino has made a wonderful movie that is now considered a classic. I can see why.
