Summary: Crazy and Fun
Review: I enjoy this movie on many levels, primarily because of Quentin Tarantino's dark, offbeat humor and the star power fueling the film. Christopher Walken is hilarious as the Vietnam Vet. Harvey Kietell is bad a$$ in this movie too. The storytelling is great, the acting is superb, and there is enough comedy and ultraviolence to make you want more when it's over. I love it.

Summary: An American Masterpiece
Review: Not since Speilberg has a director been put on the map as quickly as Tarantino. With only two films, Tarantino established himself as a fresh new talent. Following up his cult classic Reservoir Dogs, he grilled up a kind of movie that only comes out every five or ten years.

Pulp Fiction follows a handful of dark and eccentric figures over the course of two days. There's Butch Coolidge, a prize fighter with a price on his head, played by Bruce Willis. There's Vincent Vega and Jules Winnefield, two hitman played expertly by John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson. And of course, we also have the [pretty] Mia Wallace, a cocaine-fueled trophy wife, played by Uma Thurman.

The film is told all over the place, with the beginning, middle, and end all mixed up in order to add tension to the audience. The structure of the film is so well crafted you just won't believe it. What makes this film so special is the humor. At one point, Vincent and Jules are talking about God and divine intervention, which quickly ceases when Vincent accidentally shoots a guy they have in the face. It is a moment that is so brilliant, nobody could copy it.

This is, without a doubt, the most electrifying gangster film ever made, combining elements of Blaxploitation, Kung Fu, Film Noir, even Spaghetti Westerns. The only flaw in this film is a few moments of superficial dialogue (Royale w/Cheese). Some of it I just plain didn't believe, but it still had the power to make what is a long movie seem really short. In the end, you feel so excited, you wish the movie wasn't over.

I would continue, but I don't want to ruin for you what is a spectacular achievement in cinema.

Summary: Hollywood Regurgitates Itself
Review: Tarantino is Hollywood's dream creation, its very own superficial pop culture regurgitated by someone who is the direct product of years upon years of their superficial pop culture immersion. I mean, what could be more fascinating from a cultural studies point of view? Watching Pulp Fiction, one gets the impression that Tarantino does not have an original thought in his head, that his brain is literally overflowing with all of the ... American films he has consumed. Alas, I appear to be the only dissenting voice here and my vote will do little to detract from the 5-star overall rating. So it goes.

Summary: A masterpiece
Review: It would insult both the movie and you the reader to even bother reviewing this movie. This is one of those flicks that you HAVE to see during your lifetime and no movie fan can go without. This movie perfected (if not invented) the concept of showing events out of order AND make it interesting. The only other movie that managed to do this properly was years later, being Momento.

Summary: Royale with Cheese
Review: Make mine a Royale with Cheese. This is the big kahuna of mixing hitmen with high society (which is not always as pretty as it is made out to be). Yes, John Travolta and Samuel Jackson do marvelous jobs, which is especially interesting for Travolta as his early entry into being "bad" (his later entries were less convincing). Not to meantion Bruce Willis doing a smaller part that is also a bit of a departure for him -- a bad guy that wimps out but does the "right thing" (well, sorta). You get to see all sides -- cold-blooded business man, compassionate, woman-lover, deserter-turned-loyalist, sucker. The editing and sound are excellent (I also bought the soundtrack, but it includes too much dialog to be really enjoyable). I am always torn between "Pulp Fiction" and "Reservoir Dogs" for the best in the genre. They are different just enough to almost be in separate categories, but if you like mobster like films, go with "Reservoir Dogs" and if you like more dark-side-of-high-society, go with "Pulp Fiction".

Summary: A 'Must-Have' Movie
Review: This review was meant for the regular Miramax Wide-screen Edition of Pulp Fiction. I do not know how to delete this review, so I will just make clear my mistake. I have written a different review in praise of this film for the Miramax 2-disc Collector's Edition.

This movie is a definitive 'must-have' movie for all movie buffs. Anyone who has seen it knows it's worth. There are very few movies that I buy without seeing first. This is among the elite group of films that are so highly recommended that you don't have to worry about it's worth before you engage in the means necessary to acquire this exquisite film. I have yet to show this to a friend and have that person even remotely dislike the movie.

Summary: Clearly Superior
Review: I bought the regular edition of Pulp Fiction right after I bought my DVD player. As soon as this Miramax Collector's Edition graced the department store shelves, I knew I had to have this one also. This 2 DVD set has great features, the feature I hold most useful is the interview with Roger Ebert. There is a portion called the Tarantino Generation which is very interesting to all Quentin Tarantino fans. Another good thing that eased my purchasing of this after I already own the other version is the ... rebate for upgrading to this collector's edition. There is no doubt whether or not film buffs should own this movie. So the only decision there is to make is which version to buy. My main point being that this DVD edition is clearly superior to the regular edition.

Summary: ABSOLUTE JUNK!
Review: This has to be one of the most overrated films in history. I believe that most people who said that they liked this piece of garbage only did so because they wanted to sound hip and cool. Many did not see Tarintino's previous films but were told how hip and cool these films were and so by the time Pulp Fiction was released they went to see it so that they could "jump on the bandwagon". Tarintino is trying to make mindless violence "trendy". There is no real plot to this picture and the characters are all obnoxious. It seems that for a film to be considered a masterpiece nowadays, it must contain weird situations and violent obnoxious characters. Because this film was so popular it is a sad commentary of the times we live in.

Summary: Powerhouse film will enhance your DVD collection
Review: I will admit to being a huge fan of Pulp Fiction from my first 10 minutes into the theater and getting yanked by my shirt colllar into the story and not being released until the final credit rolled. OK, so I'm biased.

BUT...it's not without well-earned bias. This movie easily qualified as an instant classic. The story is top notch, even though it comes in several different, smaller packages, Tarantino earns his directing stripes in effortlessly taking these seemingly random tales and believably weaving them all together. The acting/casting doesn't leave any stone unturned (It's Uma Thurman's best performance to date, Samuel Jackson WAS the best supporting actor winner that year, even if they didn't give him the trophy. Even Willis demonstrates some wicked acting chops in a beautifully understated performance. Christopher Walken, too, provides the most satisfying and memorable cameo!), and even the choppy editing style works.

Casual movie lovers will enjoy this as just a great film. Movie fanatics will love this DVD for the satisfying extras it provides.

Too good a DVD for you to pass up!
