Review: INTRODUCTION:
As anyone knows, 1975's Jaws was one of the motion picture industry's greatest triumphs. It's follow-up, 1978's Jaws 2, was also nothing short of excellent. But come the eighties, and Universal wanted to do ANOTHER Jaws film, this one of which would be in 3D. In 1983, Jaws 3 was released. And now the film has arrived on DVD. Read on for my review of it.

BASIC PLOT:
Obviously Universal couldn't do another "great white off the coast of Amity" plot, so here's what they did. Several years have passed since the events of Jaws 2. Chief Brody's sons are now grown up, and Michael (the older one) has gotten a job at a new oceanic theme park in Florida. Shawn, his younger brother, comes to visit. In the new park, some deaths occur. Realizing this is a chance for publicity, the park owner captures the shark that they believe has caused the deaths. Unfortunately, it dies in captivity. It fast becomes evident that it was actually this shark's mother causing the destruction (the biggest shark in any of the Jaws films.) Michael and his co-workers must find a way not only to kill the shark, but also to free several park patrons trapped in an underwater tunnel.

FILM OPINIONS:
After Jaws and Jaws 2, this film was a huge letdown (though I don't think it was quite as bad as many other reviews say it was.) The most obvious flaw is that Roy Schieder isn't in the film! Can you really call it a Jaws movie without him? Also, Zanuck and Brown, two of the people who contributed so much to the first two films, had no part in this project. Don't get me wrong, Alves does his job well, but maybe this wasn't the right film for him to work on at the time. Another problem is the lack of live shark footage. Most of the shark scenes were shot using a shark that is obviously fake. You'd think with the years passing by, their ability to create an authentic-looking shark would have improved, not gotten worse. The so-called special effects are TERRIBLE! Watch the scene of the shark breaking the window to the control chamber and you'll see just what I mean. However, the movie isn't all bad. There is plenty of character development and suspense - just enough to bump the film's rating up to a three out of five.

DVD:
Unlike Universal's releases of the first two films on DVD, this one is nothing special. First and foremost, the picture quality isn't up to the usual DVD standards. To see what I mean, watch the scenes with black backgrounds, and you'll see plenty of static. Likewise, the first two films had TONS of extras. All you get on here is a trailer and some (rather pointless) recommendations. But the biggest flaw of all is one many other reviewers have stated - THE 3D GLASSES AREN'T INCLUDED! If you're gonna watch all those godawful 3D scenes, you may as well see them the way they were meant to be seen.

OVERALL:
Whoever said the third try was the charm obviously wasn't too familiar with the Jaws films. I admit, I read some reviews on here before seeing the film and I wasn't expecting much - I just bought it so that I'd have all of the Jaws movies on DVD. My final verdict here is simple - rent but don't buy.

Summary: Soggy sequel sinks fast.
Review: About the only worthwhile thing about this DVD is the presentation in the widescreen format. Well, that and the trailer. After surprising Jaws fans with a Special Edition of Jaws 2, MCA basically dumped the last two series entries out as bare bones discs. Too bad, I would have loved to hear about the making of this movie (not to mention see Jaws the Revenge restored to its original theatrical version). A 35 foot great white shark slips inside a newly built aquatic amusement park, where it promptly gives birth. Her baby is caught and dies while in captivity. Mother is not pleased. A monster sized great white shark attacks an amusement park. Just who thought that this was a good idea? On the plus side, Dennis Quaid and Bess Armstrong make for a credible couple in love, the mechancial big shark looks decent (and it growls!), and director Joe Alves strives to make the attacks unique by offering shark's throat views of the gnashing and gulping. On the downside is the silly premise, the slow pacing (the movie is almost all talk and no attack action, which jettisons all chances for suspense or thrills), and, being a 3-D movie, things are always getting shoved into the camera and this stops the already far too slow moving movie dead when viewed flat. While Jaws was/is a classic and Jaws 2 just a passable summer movie, Jaws 3 will only appeal to bad movie fans looking to laugh at something not meant to be funny.

Review: If you're going to release a bad film like this one at least include the gimmick that sold the film in the first place! If you can buy that John Waters film that has the smell-o-vision card in it, then re-release this film and bring on the goggles!

Summary: Good Movie But --------------------Some parts are HOORORBLE!
Review: The third Jaws movie on DVD! Finally! I liked the movie as I said in my Jaws 2 Review , I think Jaws 2 is EXCELLENT!Jaws 3 has no Roy Schider and not even his character Martin Brody!No Lorraine Gary either or HER charcter Ellen Brody. Micheal and Sean are in the movie though and Jaws goes to Sea World!but when I bought Jaws 3 on VHS it didn't come with 3-D glasses becuase the original title was Jaws 3-D!!!!!!!

Summary: So awful it's funny! Lots of laughs....
Review: Even though we saw it in the theatre as kids in '83, we still remember how pathetic this movie was and still is! How another great white (that looks like a frozen turkey with fins this time) gets to Florida, and "ironically" finds the Brody brothers there! Wow, she must be equipped with some huntin' dog nose! (Oh, brother) A "SEAWORLD" has been newly open, and with a lot of tourists, it's time for the shark to eat, swim, and make big toothed appearances in front of any exhibit windows. Go "EEEEEEEE" and smile, you blubbed up fat turkey fish! The effects get top marks in the HORRIBLE category. Grainy blue screens and a "play-do" looking shark are all making this movie reak of rotten. The acting here is just do-able, same going for the script. My brother and I still laugh throughout the movie at it's pathetic script, and horrible effects. I bought this for him Christmas 2000, and he said it was one of the best things he ever got for the holidays, since it makes us laugh so hard.

Jaws 3 is perhaps one of the most entertaining movies I've ever watched. And not because it's good (believe me, it's not.)

Summary: The Cheesiest Jaws Flick
Review: I have watched this movie a couple of times, and the shark is so fake looking! Its entertaining, but fake! Towards the end where the people are in that room looking over the underwater tunnel, the shark comes toward the glass screen and breaks the glass getting into the room and trys to eat people. SO FAKE! It looked like a cardboard shark put in pieces with a stick moving its tail back and forth. Its a good movie but the shark looks really fake. At least in the first and I think the second Jaws they had real footage of real sharks. I didn't realize that this movie was put out in theaters in 3-D til' today, that might be the reason why some stuff looked really fake. I heard rumors on a website that they were making a Jaws 5 possibly. I would like to see what that would be about! Haha anyways I'd give this movie 3 stars just because the shark was fake but good movie anyways, but I'd recommend Jaws 1 and 2 those are the best of the series, Jaws 4 is ok, but the script was badly written and the stupidity of the characters in the movie are questionable. Have a great scared time watching the movies and these movies did actually keep me out of the water some times, because this could happen............

Summary: good plot but horrible outcome
Review: Jaws 3 had a very good story line plot.

Mike Brodie, played by Dennis Quaid, works at Sea World and his brother, Sean comes over to visit, and that's when the fun happens, sort of.

first, a baby great white is caputured and placed in captivity. the park immmediately gains fame as being the only park to hold a live great white shark in captivity, but the fame quickly dies out as the baby shark dies.

then, Momma comes to town. the shark for jaws 3 is the biggest in the series. huge monster shark that swallows people whole.

what really killed Jaws 3 to me, was the cheap special effects at the end, when the shark attacks the main control center of the under sea kingdom. the shark never moves, and the effect is that of a cheap B movie. i realize that this effect is probably better appreciated in 3-D, but watching it in 2-d is just flat out horrible.

the ending also suits the special 3-d version, where the 2 jaws explode in front of the camera.

i like Jaws 3 for the simple fact that Jaws is Jaws, but it had so much more to offer.

Summary: The cast is good, but the shark can look stupid.
Review: The shark look incredidbly unfake but slow. The only thing realistic besides the look is that it rolles it' s eyes over white when it attackes it' s prey. But what the movie lackes in the shark it regaines in the cast which deliveres an amazing performance.

Summary: Where's the "D" in the title?
Review: Ever since Universal released the first two "Jaws" films on DVD, I've been holding my breath in hopes that they would give us the full 3-D version seen in theaters. Well, here it is finally and you'll notice there's no "D" after the three in the title. What a huge marketing boost that would've been for this DVD had they gone the extra mile and given everyone the preferred version. It's not like they couldn't put the "3-D" version on the A side and the standard version on the B side. I guess they felt the film wasn't worth it to invest the extra money. I hate to be the one to say it, but it was the "3-D" that gave this film it's attraction. Without having that gimmick, there's nothing to really enjoy, save for Louis Gossett Jr.'s over-the-top perfomance.
The film itself is probably one of those films that's on a lot of peoples "guilty pleasures" list. It plays more like an old grade B sci-fi flick from the '50's, than as a follow up to the first two "Jaws" films. The acting is very weak, especially by Dennis Quaid who has this look on his face that reads "why am I in this" throughout the entire film. First time director Alves (former production designer on "Jaws" and Jaws 2") generates very little suspense and relies too heavily on the 3-D to try and startle his audience. Unfortunately, that effect is lost on this DVD version without the 3-D and instead it comes off looking incredibly silly. Who am I kidding? The whole film is silly, but there in lies it's charm. It basically comes off as a poor remake of "Revenge of the Creature" (also shot in 3-D!).
The package itself is also pretty weak, with a short teaser trailer from 1983 being the only "special feature" (advertising the film being in 3-D as it's big draw -whoops!). Another reason they should've put in the 3-D version is the sound! Since they obviously saved money by not going all out in that department, you would think they could've given us something to compensate for it. Aside from the lack of features and terrible sound, the picture quality was suprisingly good,with a very crisp transfer (especially considering it's age). Maybe they'll go back on the film's twentieth annivesary and give us the special edition that we all...wait a second...this IS the film's twentieth annivesary! Okay, then how about a twenty fifth annivesary edition? Only this time, I'm not holding my breath.
