Summary: X(-men) marks the spot
Review: If you're a long-time X-men fan, you're going to hate the beginning of this film. It's totally unfaithful to the tiny fact that the original X-men were five teenagers and included Warren (Angel), Scott (Cyclops), Bobby (Iceman), Hank (Beast), and Jean (who I think was originally called Psi-girl before Phoenix but it's been a looong time). Whatever happened to the Angel and the Beast (Iceman is just one of the school kids with a 30 second appearance) in this alternate unreality version is a mystery.Does it matter? Yes if you expected a movie that somehow managed to squeeze several decades of comic book history into a few hours. Otherwise, it's really no big deal. The movie stands on its own as good entertainment and might even be a reasonable introduction to the X-men of today's comics. I rated it three stars because it wasn't in the same campy vein as the productions of Spiderman and Dr. Strange. And Patrick Stewart earned it a fourth even though he's actually in very little of the movie.

Summary: Too many cooks spoil the wroth
Review: At what point did comic-book superheroes become psychologically tortured and prone to philosophical posturing? It's as if Hamlet put on a cape, flew out a window and then sulked on a skyscraper ledge. Batman seems to have led the way, especially with Tim Burton's two movie adaptations. Now X-Men, based on the Marvel comic book, roots itself in one of the darkest hours of the just-vanished 20th century. In World War II Poland, a boy wails in terror as he watches two people (presumably his parents) being rounded up for a concentration camp. Restrained by guards, he stretches out a hand. As the barbed-wire gate closes behind them, he somehow emits a magnetic force that makes the fence droop like a dying flower. Flash-forward to some time further into this new century. The boy has grown up to become Magneto (Ian McKellen), a misguided genius and member of an emerging global population of mutants with special powers. Angry at the world's intolerance, Magneto assembles a small army of colleagues, including a man with a toad's elastic tongue and an identity-changing woman covered in what look like blue sequins. Magneto's plan for revenge: Warp all of mankind's genes with a super-duper force field. Meanwhile a telepath named Professor Xavier (Stewart) runs an academy to teach mutants to cope with life-and stop Magneto. Among the faculty are Storm (Berry), who can generate lightning, and Cyclops, whose eyes dart out explosive red rays. They're instructing two new students: Rogue (Paquin), who saps the life out of anyone she touches, and Wolverine (Jackman), who has metal claws, miraculous healing power and Engelbert Humperdinck sideburns. The characters, both good and evil, constantly hash over memories of prejudice, and they've certainly earned the right to vent. But that doesn't help the action sequences. When the big battle between Magneto and Xavier's forces gets going, you have lightning bolts, steel claws, magnetic fields, explosive red rays and flyaway tongues. It's a variety show, and all the acts have rushed onstage at once.

Review: Ive just seen the XMEN, and to be honest its really a 3 and a half star movie, I have generously given it 5 stars because I love the XMEN so much that I am loathed to give anything XMEN related a bad review, YES IM BIASED, ONE-EYED and not a very OBJECTIVE XMEN FANATIC! So forgive my onesided review! I had extremely high expectations in regard to this movie, I drooled eagerly for little snippets of internet news about the theatre release dates. Finally it had come, the XMEN drought was over! However instead of being excited I found myself curiously wary, I was absolutely terrified that the movie would SUCK, so many movies have been stuffed up by the actors the director the highup crowd in charge of the money, (and the audience) that I had second thoughts about going to see it, preferring my own imagination on how it would be, rather than seeing it and being disappointed! (CHICKEN! ) I breathed a sigh of relief as the Xmen movie opened well, I liked the use of historical facts of Man's inhumanity to Man, as a basis for this particular XMEN tale. We see how Differences in another can be taken to a monstrously evil scale, as was seen in World War 2, this is the setting of our first glimpse of a mutants ability, though subtle, gave us a great intro to the movie, no dazzling breathtaking over the top special FX bonanza, just the pain and anguish of a child reaching out for his parents, I thought WOW dramatic yet simple, (Xcellent so far! ) As the movie progressed I became more hopeful, even eager the performances were great, the actors were really getting into their characters, especially Hugh Jackman who shone outstandingly as Wolverine, and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos as the magnificent Mystique, Halle Berry also gave a wonderful performance as Storm, she looked awesome dispite the Barbie doll wig! . However, the editing really drove me nuts! , just when you were about to get some insight into the characters and plot, it would cut out to another unrelated scene and then zip back during what I thought was relevant dialogue between characters, (eg Cyclops speaking to Xavier). I thought certain scenes were rushed we never really got to know the team, we kept zipping all over the place breaking the stories continuity, by trying to give as much info to the audience without developing the characters or story in any significant way, this really annoyed me because the Xmen Comic book heros have so much depth and power that I was disappointed when all we got was a 'who's that Mutant' scenario. I didnt want to see glimpses of these wonderful Characters I wanted to see the Xmen and their villanous counterparts in there full Mutant Glory, (tragically cut short by poor editing! BOOOOOO! ) The glimpses we did see were awesome, and almost made me forget what annoyed me about the movie. Sadly Wolverine and to a certain extent Rogue and MAGNUS (NOT ERIK?ERIC)were more detailed characters given the storyline being focused on them in particular. Hopefully the next movie will give us more character development and insight into the marvel-lous mutant world of THE XMEN! Dispite the flaws, the 'what if' dream of mine, will still wait eagerly for the next Xmen movie. DOWN WITH THE MUTANT REGISTRATION ACT!

Summary: A comic brought to life
Review: Undoubtedly the production of X-men caught its attention by being a real life adaptation of the famous Marvel comic in the American culture. So what would you expect? Superman, Wonder Woman or Batman? In fact it offers more, for you have a greater variety of supernatural power effects in one roll, so looks like a better bargain for SF fans. Basically, the plot is not that outstanding and in fact a bit fragmented. This might be due to the great number of characters available in the movie. Woverine of Hugh Jackman is no doubt the best developed character in the movie. His relation with Anna Paguin was written with care, so deserve a good word for them. However a bit disappointed were other characters like Cyclob, Storm etc. were not well developed. Perhaps the abundant special effects has already made the movie to costly for further acting lines. However, this made the movie more fall into a pure SF action movie. The color tone of the movie has a strong Tim Burton's Batman feel. Black, silver and brown could be found frequently. Things like to happen at night, so fights are all done at night. Nonetheless, it still make the movie cool enough to earn a hand from the audience. The story looks to adopt an open-ended ending paving for a sequel. If really so, a better story and character development would no doubt help the sequel be a more successful one.

Summary: Great Transition
Review: There was skeptecism concerning the X-Men film. It could have been another Batman & Robin or it could have equalled the feel of the comics. It nailed it down splendidly. The casting could not have been better - even Halle Berry as Storm (although she could have had a better line when she fries Toad) Hugh Jackman steals every scene he is in - even from veterans like Stewart and McKellan. The SFX were excellent and were never overused to gloss the movie over. Wolverine's claws were especially well done, right down to seeing where the cuts they make coming out heal after. The clang of metal when someone hits him was a nice touch also. Overall, the film sets out to be exactly what it tries to be - a homage to one of the best comic series in history. It'll be interesting to see what they do with the sequel! From what I have heard - it may involve the Sentinels. One thing the sequel should have is more X-Men. Iceman, Collossus, Shadowcat and Torch all appear in the film, but where are Gambit, Angel, Nightcrawler and Beast?

Summary: Waiting for Part 2
Review: There are too many characters and it lacks a cohesive plot. Who cares? I have a lot of affection for these characters because I was reading their comics way back in junior high. They did a great job with the casting and I didn't mind the changes they made in characters and costumes. Patrick Stewart and Ian MacKellan were perfect, as was Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. They need to give Storm more to do next time. I think of this as an extended prologue to what will hopefully become a long and successful movie franchise.

Summary: THE MOST OVERRATED MOVIE SINCE TITANIC
Review: This movie blows. By the end of the movie I was considering just taking a nap(yes, it really is that boring) but figured I probabley wouldn't wake up. This movie has an unhealthy mix of miscasting, bad acting, and dull action. Bryan Singer should be shamed, the director of "The Usual Suspects" and "Apt Pupil" has totally sold out to the mindless action genre.

Summary: i want to like X-men, but....
Review: i wanted so much to really enjoy x-men, that i probably liked it more than what it is really worth. i saw it twice at theatres, and the second time, honestly, was really boring. one thing that x-men is missing that made other comic book heroes turned to movie heroes so good is the music. there were motifs for batman and superman that we all know. if someone were to start singing the superman theme, we all would remember and sing right along. same with star wars. that is one of the big things lacking in x-men. i do give it three stars because i thought the four main characters are good, wolverine--who rocks, rogue--who is a bit mysterious, professor xavier-- played perfectly by patrick stewart, and the best character, magneto. i actually did feel for magneto, and his suffering. that was well done. in short, i just think they could have worked on a lot of things to make it better. i also hear that they did cut about 30 minutes worth of material from the movie, which is why it somehow feels a bit poorly cut. how i wish hollywood executives would get out of the filming process, let the directors and the writers do their artistic job. they know better.

Review: I have never read comics in my life. But I liked the X-Men a lot. It makes for good science fiction. I hope they do a sequal with the same cast of actors again. They did an outstanding job.
