Review: They Killed The Giggler man! They killed him! Classic line. The Giggler being a purse snatcher who giggles when he snatches a purse or camera from a unsuspecting pedestrian. Naturally Bronson offs him with a .357 that fires shells that could kill an elephant. Great acting by all, including the main villian, who sports a reverse afro, that even Larry Fine from the 3 Stooges would be proud off. Look for Marina Sirtis of Counselor Troi of Star Trek fame making an early acting appearance.

Review: You've got to give Michael Winner some credit. Critics may lambast his movies often enough, and sometimes with good reason, but at least they can be entertaining, especially the action pics that he did with Charles Bronson. DEATH WISH was a landmark box office hit, a taut thriller inspired to some extent by the firearm tactics of DIRTY HARRY and 7 years later, it spawned a sequel. As Bronson never tracked down the creeps who raped his daughter and killed his wife in DW1, in DW2, he actually does manage to nail the freaks who attack his daughter and housekeeper. DW3, for me, is a perfect end to the trilogy of Michael Winner vigilante flicks (although there were 2 more Death Wishes, albeit under different directors). As always, Chuck is taciturn as Paul Kersey, who kills more people than ever and weaselly character actor, Ed Lauter is fine as the lieutenant who wants to use Kersey to sort out a neighbourhood, and ultimately helps him clear the trash. A film like this is best expected as a fantasy. There's plenty of great action sequences such as the final battle on the streets when Kersey runs around mowing down his enemies, using machine guns, bazookas and a 'Wildey' Magnum handgun, and the bit when chief villain, Manny Fraker and his cronies chase him through the night. As a long-time Led Zep fan, I love Jimmy Page's heavy metal score and it's great to see an old 'grandad' buzz round the streets and blow away guys half his age!

Review: Movies don't get better than this. The plot is excellent, the photography is great, and the end is as close to perfect as anything I've ever seen. There is a huge riot over the entire town. Charles Bronson is armed with a machine gun and he goes around mowing down gangsters by the dozen. Meanwhile, all of the gangsters are going around throwing grenades and shooting at everything in sight. This is a perfect movie.

Review: Exploding off the screen with wit and vitality, this film combines pulsating action, tongue-in-cheek humor, and a neverending display of cartoon carnage. A delight from start to finish, this film must be considered the greatest of its kind. Endlessly quotable, fun, outrageous, and strangely dramatic, especially in the area of romance. Not since Brando in "Streetcar" have we seen acting of this power and influence.

Review: "It's like roaches, unless you get them all, then what's the point?" That is not only a line from this film, but also a fine encapsualation of its bizarre right wing politics. Director Michael Winner, who made the original "Death Wish," unleashes upon the audience an even baser, more manipulative film than the original. This movie is defined by one of the most facile understandings of the criminal justice system ever depicted on film. When the police are clumsy and ineffectual, and the courts cannot provide solace against murderers, rapists and muggers, and even defense attorneys question their vocation, what is the answer? According to this film and others in the series: shoot people! Shoot a whole bunch of people! I don't want to come off as a moralizing prig, but this film is dangerous for a very serious reason: it represents a viable solution for a sizeable portion of Americans for dealing with crime. The entire point of Brian Garfield's mediocre-at-best novel, "Death Wish" was to show that vigilantism, while certainly a quick solution, was no answer to street crime. The novel's theme of moral ambiguity was ruthlessly minimized in the first film, and has disappeared completely by this lackluster installment. "Death Wish 3" is a truly miserable film. Not only for its aforementioned bizarre politics, but for its acting, script, direction and any other criterion of cinematic judgement. Looking about 75 years of age, Charles Bronson plods through this film with all the energy of a pregnant alligator. The cast is nothing more than an endless series of victims, who are present only to be mugged, beaten, tortured, burned, maimed, axed and shot. As Bronson's friend, Bennett, the great character actor Martin Balsam does his best to rescind all the credibility he gained from films such as "12 Angry Men" and "Psycho." It's hard to imagine where exactly this movie was filmed. I don't think Belfast during "the Troubles" or downtown Beirut in the early 80s looked as bombed out as the set of this movie. If you like movies that end definitively, then this one's for you. At the end of this movie, a gang leader is summarily eviscerated by a portable missile launcher. That scene, and this whole film, is the ultimate extension of that reactionary period in the early 1970s when films such as "Walking Tall" and the original "Death Wish" reigned at the box office. Unfortunately, compared to this abomination, those films looked positively subtle. Unless you're searching for comic value, bypass this Golan/Globus "classic."

Summary: I second that call to release this on DVD!
Review: I have watched this film more than any other and I can rest assured that no film will ever surpass it. What's not to love? It works as a mindless action pic, a comedy, a riveting drama, and even a workout video (those in-the-know will pick this up). Bronson should have received an Oscar for his Holly Hunter in "The Piano"-like performance of mysterious silence and obvious despair (yet undenaible strength). But hey, if MGM does release it, would they remaster a widescreen version with running commentary from Michael Winner? THIS, my friends, is why they invented cinema.

Summary: I Refuse to Buy a DVD Player Until they Release This
Review: I just watched this for the 20th time or so, and once again, DW3 did not fail to amuse me or entertain me or blow me away. The look on Fraker's face when Kersey whips out the missile launcher is a definite moment in time. I also love when Davis asks him "You don't REALLY like opera, do you?" and he responds, oh so cool and singsongy, "Nooooooooooooo..." A classic and the best Golan/Globus film ever. MGM, please put this out on DVD. Trivia: This film originally received an "X" rating when first submitted to the MPAA.

Review: Ahh, the joys that come from watching this film over and over again. Bad acting, an even worse script, and action sequences that defy description, this film is not only uproarious, but a madhouse of massacre. The least defined characters of all-time (especially the public defender, the owlish Ms. Davis) help provide for a literal shooting gallery of fun. If I had to choose one film to spend the rest of my life with on a desert island, this would be it. I really think AFI needs to rethink their top 100 list and if you don't believe me, check out the opening jail scene. Fantastico!

Review: This movie is the number one movie that is so bad it becomes a comedy!!!!!!!I lauged, I cried I've seen it a dozen times! If you know what I'm talking about then please see ANACONDA and SHOWDOWN IN LITTLE TOYKO! THE NUMBER 2# AND 3# worst good movies ever.

Review: This film is irresistable. Here you have Bronson, back in New York. New York? It looks more like Bosnia or something in this neighborhood. No commerce, no reason for the citizens to live there, just constant gang violence and no police in sight. The end is absolutely insane. Just twenty minutes or so of Bronson and one cop blowing away countless human scum like a warzone. And I would love to know what catalog Bronson orders from where he can get rocket launchers and .457s in the mail just like that. Isn't America great? Easily the best vigilante movie of all time.
