Summary: An excellent film from master storyteller Tim Burton.
Review: First of all, this is one of my favorite movies, and a prime example of Tim Burton in his top form! There is so much in this film to behold, the absolutely fabulous art direction by the late Anton Furst, the fantastic musical score by Danny Elfman, the performances by Jack Nicholson and Micheal Keaton, and the skillful direction of Tim Burton. All of these elements, when mixed into a dark, gloomy plot, make a film that can be called nothing short of a masterpiece. Like Star Wars and Indiana Jones, this is one of those films that you could watch 200 times and never get sick of. Definitely a timeless classic.

Summary: One of the Greats
Review: Quite possibly one of the greatest Batman movies ever made, this goes beyond the zany BIFFs and BAMs and BOPs of the old TV shows. Although his wepons progress over time, This one with Jack Nicholson is pure genius, all the way from the explosive begining to an extraordinary climax on the roof of the Cathedral. This is 100% worth it.

Summary: Less Jack, More Batman
Review: "Batman" is a triumph of style over substance. Every shot of this movie looks exactly how a Batman film should look. The music, actors and effects are all appropriate. The only thing that's lacking is a compelling story. But the most disappointing thing about the film is it started a trend of the supporting villian overshadowing Batman.First off, Michael Keaton is the best Batman. He turns in a perfomance showing the glib smile of Bruce Wayne hiding the obsessed brooding crimefighter of Batman. He is physically menacing and suprisingly vulnerable. Unfortunately he is not the star of the movie. Jack Nicholson steals every scene he is in and it is not very good for the movie. It is not until the film's final battle where Nicholson's Joker and Keaton's Batman are on equal footing. The worse thing though is Jack's Joker isn't convincing. It's the same manic and threatening Jack perfomance that we've seen in The Shining and Witches of Eastwick, but it is not the Joker. The film is overall good but it could have been great.

Summary: The caped crusader meets his childhood enemy
Review: First, the music tells you that you are watching an epic tale; a man robbed of his childhood by crime. Withdrawing into himself he builds a suit of armor and his body into a crime-fighting super hero who confronts criminals directly, in-you-face: "I AM BATMAN" he says matter-of-factly. With nothing to lose, he is invincible as he confronts evil and keeps a dark city livable. Meanwhile, you have a cocky gangster finally gets his just deserts and he's disfigured. He, too has nothing to live or and he goes for the "jugular" of the city in a direct take-over scheme. We know that both men will eventually clash and it will be an epic struggle. As the audience, you don't really know the implications until Michael Keaton's Bruce Wayne tests the Joker and almost gets killed. The Joker remarks: "Ever dance with the devil in the pale moon light?" A haunting vision of what a crime incident is like, IF you survive it--Bruce Wayne's mom and dad did not. The verbal skirmish that led to the shooting was over reporter Kim Bassinger's Vicky Vale--a symbol of life that both men want but can't seem to have. While Batman and Joker battle it out leading up to the city's festival, Batman gets shot down in his jet and is hurt and bleeding. The tables have turned, he no longer has all the "wonderful toys" and the upper hand. You don't see him calling for an ambulance or "time out". There is no time for this, the mission must come first. He has to go straight up---the same gothic church bell tower from VERTIGO and fight every step of the way because Joker must be stopped. His determination, his courage---propels him from the burning wreckage of his downed aircraft to meet Joker's thugs one-by-one as Vicki dances with the maniac criminal. The music reminds us that Batman will not be stopped as he knocks off each hoodlum until its just the Joker and Vicki. Then he asks Joker, the question: "Ever dance with the devil in the pale moon light?" SMACK! He confronts his parent's killer. A great film that reminds us that it takes someone willing to go toe-to-toe with criminals to stop them or we would all be victims. When we are as determined as Batman is to bring criminals to justice our crime problems will be greatly reduced.

Summary: BATMAN IS THE BEST!!!
Review: Director Tim Burton and Michael Keaton team up to create THE Batman. Every bit of this movie is entertaining. Keaton plays his dual roles perfectly. His Batman is one that nobody will forget. The plot flows smoothly. Jack Nicholson stars as the Joker. Nicholson is so perfect with this part that I think he should've played it again! The music is top notch and provides the necessary mood- which is dark. The whole atmosphere in this movie is great. It's one you want to watch over and over!!

Summary: Batman Good Movie, Bad Sound
Review: The movie stayed the same, action packed and interesting. Each role is carried out to its most full potential, but the movie isn't where the DVD lacks. The sound is atrocious! I bought the DVD with the thought of the sound blowing me out of the chair, and it barely made it past my speakers! I was thoroughly unimpressed, little or no sound came from the surrounds and the whole movie sounded like they were talking through (and shooting through) big plastic cups over their mouths. Bottom line, good movie, bad sound.

Summary: The best of the Batman movies
Review: The original "Batman" is definitely the best of the series in my opinion. Michael Keaton does a great job of playing Batman and Jack Nicholson does a great job playing as the Joker. Batman is sort of like Superman because he shows up when there's some trouble and he finds a solution. However, when the Joker arrives and starts killing people and Bruce Wayne (Michael Keaton) finds out who the Joker really is, he has to do something to stop him. "Batman" is an all-around great movie. It has an interesting plot, the special effects are superb, and the Batmobile is awesome. Michael Keaton is the best Batman in my opinion, and this movie is the best adventure that Batman ever discovered. I recommend everybody to get this movie. It's one of the best movies of the late 80s and it spawned a new era in movie history. I just wish that the later Batman movies would've kept the sense of action and adventure that this movie had. "Batman Forever" and especially "Batman & Robin" stray so far away from what this movie was that they don't even seem like real Batman movies.

Summary: The Ultimate Batman Flick, Dark, Brooding and Extremely Ente
Review: This one is probably the best in the series, even though 'Batman Returns' is in some ways better. It is a film that is heavy with little flaws but as we watch the 'complete' product it delivers the goods and much more. As with all the Batman films, here the villain is the one that steals the film, and Jack Nicholson is the best villain of them all. Still unmatched, only Michelle Pfeiffer came as close to creating an equally memorable villain. Nicholson steals every scene he is in and ultimately ends up stealing the movie, he is perfect as joker. Sure he goes way over the top at times and shamelessly overacts at others but it's all just a lot of fun and that is the way the joker would of behaves anyway. Much of this film's success and the success of the whole Batman franchise is due to the twisted genius of Tim Burton. He is the one who decided to create a brooding, gothic and very dark Gotham as opposed to the TV series. Michael Keaton is the best Batman of all; he delivers a low-key performance that is only slightly impressive. The character Batman/Bruce Wayne needed a bit more development. And Kim Basinger's character is completely unfocused and seems a bit out of place at times. The score by Danny Elfman is a knockout and has become one of the most famous of all time. Also the addition of some songs from Prince were an inspired choice. More comic-book like and less 'cartoony' than the Batman flicks that would follow. This is also one of the first films that marked Burton's brand of 'twisted noir' as I call it. He would later pick up that style in 'Batman Returns', 'Edward Scissorhands', 'Ed Wood', 'Sleepy Hollow', etc. The film is obviously flawed but is still an admirable effort and an extremely entertaining film with some surprising German expressionist undercurrents. Extras: Jack Palance appears in a small role. From a scale of 1-10 I give this film a 7!

Summary: You just can't beat the first
Review: If only the fifth could get back to where this thing started. Micheal Keaton IS Batman. Nothing against Val, a little something against Clooney (in this role anyway), but these guys just could not pull off both sides of the bat as well as Keaton. As far as Nicholson goes, just forget it! No other villian is going to beat that performance. These movies went downhill after this. I can suffer through "Batman Returns", but it stops there. I almost deny the existance of the third and fourth installments. Batman is the Dark Knight, and not some campy superhero. If your in jeopardy of forgetting this, GET THIS DVD, before it's too late. Tim Burton is a master of the dark vibe. If only they can get him back. The action sequences and the story combine to make a win-win scenario that can't be beat.
