Summary: Wonderfully directed, filmed, and acted but a bit dull...
Review: The first Star Trek Movie is NOT as bad as many believe. It's certainly better than III:The Search for Spock and V:The Final Frontier. The story has awe and scope, and the music is beautiful but the cameradie between the regulars is a bit lacking.

Summary: One of the Best Treks!
Review: Like others, I was slightly disappointed with this movie when it first came out in 1979. Over the years, however, I've come to appreciate it more and more. This is not a film for action/adventure fans, but it is for those who enjoy an introspective look at who we are and where we came from. More than any other ST film, this one stayed true to Rodenberry's original Start Trek concept. If it had any flaws, it was in costuming and set lighting. The dull, grey unisex uniforms and the bright, white lights of the ship's interior were not at all attractive. Still, that's a minor distraction. Overall, a great movie and worth having in your video library.

Summary: The first is the most unique of the Trek films
Review: The first of the Star Trek films is teh most unique. Although it did not do well at the box office it is just as good as the others. However though it is very different from the others. It is much longer and much less dramatic. the others were built around action, adventure, drama, and suspense but this one is only built around visuals. However though this is not a bad thing. One example is when Captain Kirk (William Shatner) boards the Enterprise Scotty (James Doohan) takes him in a shuttle. Their entire flight takes about five minutes because they fly around the Enterprise which is shown with great detail. The film is entirely built around visuals like this one. Which were both very interesting and entertaining. Although it wasn't as exciting and was not action packed it was much more original and unique than the others. THis time an alien lifeform known as V'ger has just destroyed three Klingon ships and a Federation outpost. Why? Because they were in its path. What's next in its path? Earth is next. And the Enterprise is teh only thing that stands in V'gers way. They take a long time showing what v'ger looks like and they do it very artistically just like all the excellent visuals in thsi film. The story line is superb and it contains a great ending in which V'ger's identity is revealed. However though I will not tell you how it ends because it is so good I don't want to spoil it. "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" is a great film and a classic science fiction film alll Trek fans will love.

Summary: Have the fast forward button ready...
Review: If you actually buy this movie: be aware that an enormous amount of time will be wasted seeing gratuitous special effects. Five minutes to see William Shatner being beamed up, probably an hour's worth of shots of the Enterprise moving through V'Ger's cloud, and scenes (the wormhole one for example) added on just for the sake of special effects! Yes, there is a story here, but you'll probably fall asleep before you get there.

Summary: Not the best start for Star Trek on the Big Screen
Review: This film has good visual effects, but I think it is boring as hell! (I almost fell asleep when I saw it the first time) Also, the characters do not act like they used to in the series. Unbelievably, the FX are the best of all the first five movies.

Summary: THE HUMAN ADVENTURE IS JUST BEGINING
Review: As with ALL the other movies that I have reviewed, I also have this movie in my library. [The SPECIAL LONGER VERSION which includes the 12mins. of footage not shown the original theatrical release]. The FIRST time the 'STAR TREK' cast were reunited was in the 1970s to supply their own voices for 'STAR TREK - THE ANIMATED SERIES'. Now 'JAMES T. KIRK' (Promoted to Admiral and made Chief of Starfleet Operations), and his legendary crew are ONCE AGAIN reunited for the big screen. Robert Wise does a fine job of directing this epic adventure. My PERSONAL FAVORITE scene is the SURPRISE APPEARANCE of 'MR. SPOCK' coming aboard the famed starship from the 'VULCAN' courrier vessel. This is a MUST HAVE movie for anyone's video library. It will also make BIG FANS out of non - 'Trek' fans. This is truly the BEST sci-fi film ever made.

Review: As with all the films i have reviewed, i also have this film in my video library. [ I have the special longer edition, which features the 12 mins. of footage not shown in the original theatrical release]. The FIRST time the cast members of the tv series 'STAR TREK' were reunited, was in the 1970s to supply their voices for 'STAR TREK - THE ANIMATED SERIES'. This time 'KIRK' and his legendary crew are once again reunited for the big screen. Although the movie let the special effects rule, and the viewer gets a sense of claustrophobia, as all of the action takes place aboard the 'ENTERPRISE', it is still one of the BEST sci-fi films ever made. Leonard Nimoy's breathtaking appearance of 'SPOCK' coming aboard the ship from the Vulcan shuttle is my favorite scene of the whole film. My advice to any viewer who's a sci-fi fan is to BUY!!! this movie and all the other 8 'STAR TREK' films.

Summary: A good beginning
Review: I hadn't watched this movie for a while but when I picked it back up, I remembered why I love Star Trek. The plot may be a little hoky and the special effects aren't as sharp and stunning as today's special effects, but its a good story and brings the crew back in style. Personally I like some of the cheesiness of Star Trek and I think so of the cliches make it work well. Its a story filled with comradery, dedication, and adventure...definitely worth seeing.

Summary: A Classic Sc-Fi masterpiece
Review: Will go down in history as the most underappreciated piece of movie making. A brilliant science fiction journey that will expand your heart and mind, and change the way you look at the universe.

Summary: A good start...
Review: the last words of the film sum it up: "The human adventure is just beginning." The Motion Picture, is despite flaws, the reason for the existence of all the other films, and series. It is also home to the best looking starship Enterprise, and the Klingon Battlecruiser. Never have spaceships, particularly the Enterprise looked so real and big. They really look like they're 300 metres long. Most subsequent evolutions of designs and concepts came from this film. The story is slow, but to-the-point. Luckily it doesn't waffle- it tells an epic story. The visual effects are awe-inspiring, the scale enormous and the effect marvellous. Bad editing of the live action makes some scenes a little uneven, and rough cuts are prominent. The musical score redeems the film somewhat, as do the effects. Production design for all things mechanical was spot on, but the costumes fail dismally, much like first-season TNG. The film, as a whole, lacks the heart of the series, and the other movies. The vast effects sequences and the desire of the producers to 'out-do' Star Wars bury the characters, stifling the acting. It seems a similar thing has happened to the new Star Wars film, a condition I've dubbed TMP syndrome- the over-use of effects and perfection.

Nonetheless, the film was a beginning, not an end, and this earns it high marks in my view.
