Summary: Great movie; insignificant flaws
Review: By all accounts this was an excellent movie, but it was somewhat disappointing in certain aspects. Tobey Maguire is a good actor, don't get me wrong.. yet he didn't have that superhuman quality that he should've. Spider-Man should've been somebody taller, with a deeper voice, and an unknown. To put a known actor in a movie about a superhero sort of trashes it in ways, like Val Kilmer and George Clooney for the last two installments of the "Batman" series. Every time I saw Clooney, I thought of "E.R." and "Three Kings", not the dark knight. But enough about that, the focus of this review is basically how they should've gotten somebody else for the hero besides Tobey Maguire. All-in-all though, I really enjoyed the movie. As to how closely it followed the comics, I think they were very spot-on (with a very small number of exceptions). It's worth getting on DVD or VHS, either way it makes a great addition to anyone's video library.

Summary: Great!
Review: This movie is great! The acting in it is fantastic and the effects of Spider Man swinging through the city are amazing. The Green Goblin is the only let down. He looks more like a plastic toy than a real villian in the movie. But overall, it's well worth being bought!

Summary: Extremely Dissapointing Extras!!!
Review: I love the movie, I think it is wonderful. However I was EXTREMELY dissapointed with the bonus features. With two discs you would think that they could have put the deleted scenes in there somewhere. My main purpose in buying it was for the now infamous cut scene with the twin towers. I would have returned it but my husband wouldn't let me.

Summary: Good
Review: Good film. The Willem Defoe parts are silly, but overall good. And I always thought Toby MaGuire such a wimpy actor, that I never liked him. But he plays a wimp in this movie--except when using his superpowers--so he's actually well cast

Summary: Not perfect, but a very good try.
Review: What can I possibly say that someone else hasn't already? This movie is truly a dream come true for a long time Spider-man fan like me. After so many comic to movie adaptations, it's hard not to become a little bit weary of 'the next one'. But, here we are, and here we have a movie that actually succeeds in rising above the rest. There hasn't been a comic adapted this successfully since Tim Burton did Batman back in 1989, and Superman before that in 1978 (which sadly bodes that the next one will be in 2011!).

Many directors and artists in Hollywood claim to be fans of comic book heroes, but when it comes time for them to actually put it together they fail miserably. But not here. Sam Rami did what a true fan would do - stayed true to the source material - while maintaining the objectivity and realistic approach of a film-maker. But, while cinema demands certain structural devices for reasons of plot and pace, he has captured the essence of Spider-man and his history accurately, and instilled through Tobey Maguire a sense of the excitement that any teenager would feel in Peter Parker's situation. Perhaps the only thing that disappointed me was the Green Goblin. The design is didn't have it's own identity, instead rendered like a stock ILM creature. There was no need to venture away from the comic designs of old, as the CGI generation of movies are all converging towards the same point of style. The older Green Goblin designs might have imbued a retro feel that set them apart from the rest of the current fare. Raimi, incidentally, also seems to suffer from Burton's inability to shoot clear, cohesive action scenes that last for any sustained period. It's not that he's a bad film-maker, it's just not his thing. One thing I absoluetly LOVED, though, was the inverted kiss, between Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, which just oozes with sexuality.

The DVD is packed with extras, as you can see. Most of them are interesting enough, although personally, extras have almost lost their appeal, like a novelty, and I find myself simply going for the films that I like, rather than the rest.

Summary: A Cool Super Hero Movie
Review: This movie follows in the tradition of other great super hero films such as the Batman Series and Dick Tracy. Tobey Maguire stars as Peter Parker, your typical high school nerd. One day, Peter's science class takes a field trip to the Columbia University science lab. While he's there, Peter is bitten by a genetically engineered spider. Almost immediately, Peter begins to change. His senses heighten and his scrawny body is transformed into that of a professional athlete. Its not long before Peter is jumping between buildings.

Soon, Peter enters an amateur wrestling match with the hopes of winning the top prize of $3000. His opponent is Bonesaw McGraw, played by none other than legendary pro wrestler Randy "Macho Man" Savage. Spider-Man has been born.

Its not long before Spider-Man is swinging from building to building, helping people and fighting crime. But, Spider-Man also has an enemy, the Green Goblin, aka Norman Osborn, played superbly by Willem Dafoe. He flies around on a type of hovercraft, all the while wreaking havoc on the city and its people.

The acting is excellent throughout the movie. MaGuire, Dafoe, and Kirsten Dunst (Mary Jane) give top notch performances. The special effects are stunning as well. Comic book enthusiasts as well as action movie fans will love this movie.

Summary: One of My Favorite Movies
Review: I've been a big Spider-Man fan since childhood. I've been waiting for this release for YEARS. It was worth the wait. The Collector's Set is a little expensive, but everyone should see Spider-Man. The casting is excellent, and Raimi stayed true to the comic book for the most part. It really is excellent.

Summary: Best comic book move since Batman
Review: Knock it if you will, but I did enjoy this film. Many people dissed it for bad acting, writing, etc. It's based on a comic book, and it doesn't try to hide it. Don't expect Shakespeare.

It's very true to the original comic book, and much of the script is straight from Stan Lee. The special effects are great. It's just a fun movie that you can't take too seriously. No huge plot twist, no big words, no complicated story lines. It's here to feed your inner child (or your inner nerd).

Summary: Good movie, awful DVD
Review: The movie was excellent, but that's not really the point. Not only is this DVD encoded with RCE (Regional Coding Enhancement, which means it *WON'T* run on many zone-free dvd players), but the bonuses are not very interesting (among others, where is the deleted scene with the twin towers ? Ah well...)

All in all, the movie is still great but the DVD is ..., so that averages at 3 stars in my book.
