Summary: great entertainment
Review: The best action of schwarzenegger. Picture and sound quality is so good. This is a "must have" item for schwarzenegger and sci-fi fantasy fans. Although it looks like a war movie, it's a horror show. Watch it.

Summary: A Must-Have for Fans of Arnold Schwarzenegger
Review: This was one of the earlier movies acted by Arnold Schwarzenegger which I think helped him to rise in fame. He plays the role of a leader of tough soldiers, who unfortunately got wiped out one by one by a alien predator that sees (treats) them as targets for hunting. Human skull is a trophy.

Here you will see Arnold in top form---his huge muscles giving a tough look that is irreplaceable by any other actor. Yeah, this guy looks tougher than Rambo!

A simple story but a must-have for Arnold fans. You see him as a real action hero (super tough soldier) in this movie. One of the movies to remember Arnold by.

Summary: Easily one of Arnold's Best
Review: Outside of the Terminator series, Predator is easily Arnold's best action movie. It is completely engrossed with action from the helicopter deployment in the beginning, to the end of the movie. I also enjoyed Jesse Ventura's one-liners, not to mention his mini-gun. All in all a great movie, however the DVD lacks any real special features (make sure you buy the DTS version, there is a noticeable gain in sound fidelity).

Summary: action must have DVD
Review: First DVD bought and with home theatre and large screen 16:9 tv, it is great. It is not dated inspite of its 80's release. Color and sound are execellent. Action is almost no-stop. The Predator character is truly a masterpiece of special effects. Certainly the plot is believable and list of players (including the now governor, Jesse Ventura) are cast perfectly. Arnold of course steals the picture and shows what "brung him" to tinseltown, his muscles and stamina. Ending is or should be a classic!

Summary: Great movie, mediocre DVD
Review: PREDATOR: 5/5

Dutch (Swarzenegger) and his group of elite recon soldiers are hired to rescue two POW's who were captured amidst guerilla warfare. As they complete the mission, however, they discover that the base they were sent to infiltrate was a central guerilla base, and that their real purpose was to stop a major operation before it reacher the border into U.N. territory. Appalled at the dishonesty towards him and his men, Dutch takes his team and prepares to pull out. Little do they know that an otherworldly Predator is roaming the jungles, hunting any formidable foe - one by one - for sport, removing their skulls as trophies for the kill. Now Dutch and his men are on a race against time to get to the rescue 'chopper at the extraction point - but a stand against this Predator must be made now - or there will be nobody left to be rescued.

THE DVD: 2/5
Predator is among the group of films such as Aliens which set the trend in filmography, sound, and design for the 90's.

Picture Quality: 4.5/5
Considering how old this movie is, the quality of the film is excellent - though if you inspect the film enough, you'll notice some parts with the telltale 80's film grain. Also, as with almost all other DVD's, the picture is harshly faded to to limited colors of the average television set - for best look on ANY DVD film, it's good to have a high-definition TV, or view it on your computer.

Sound: 5/5
Wow! MAJOR improvement from the junk delivered to us in the VHS version. Crisp and clear, with only a few sound glitches which aren't the DVD's fault but the film's (again, stereotypical 80's stuff).

Special Features: -10/5
Yes, that's a "-10". I can't believe FOX could slack off on special features this much. One of the main reasons people buy DVD's is for the interest in special features - and all we get is a teaser trailer.

OVERALL:
Terrible in the special features market, but the movie itself and the great improvement in the film's quality make up, somewhat, for it. Buy this DVD if you simply don't have the movie and want it - but if you're like me, and have it already on VHS, buying this DVD isn't worth it, unless you're absolutely obsessed in the idea of having the movie in widescreen.

Summary: PREDATOR [Deadly Manhunter]
Review: This is a great movie. Like it a lot. Much better than the stupid sequel that follows it. But I do not agree that this is Arnold's greatest performance ever. It is one of his best though. I like the idea for this action adventure sci-fi story. Men going to the jungle in South America and rescuing hostages taken. That's what they think they are heading into. But what they don't know is that an evil alien who snacks on human beings for prey is watching and planning on them being his next meal. All of them are very unlucky except one man-can you guess? Of course-the one and only Arnold Schwarznegger himself. Always considered to be the action hero who saves the day. But in real life there is no way one man could take out an impossible-to-defeat monster like this. Not even Arnold. It would take an entire team of army men. But I like the story line of this movie. There was no need to make a sequel to this. Or they could have at least made it a serious movie similar to this instead of a retarded one taking place in the not too distant future.

Summary: Stick around...
Review: ...if you like action--Arny'll make it worth your while. Unfortunately, the transfer from film to DVD is probably poorer on this disc than most, especially in terms of image quality, which is why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of a 5. I was stunned to see specks of dust during the title sequence. But if you love this movie, then the DVD is a nice addition to your collection.

Summary: A rampant hunter
Review: The sequel to this movie proves the point that this movie got the setting right in having the alien predator hunt in the forests of earth. While somewhat lacking in genuine plot and acting, this movie does not pretend to be anything else other than a macho flick with mountains of muscle and great weaponry. That is why this film works so well!

The concept of the alien itself should never have been taken out of the jungle (ref. the sequel) - for here the Predator is in his element, as ultimately, he is a game hunter looking for sport.

A punchy soundtrack, and taut direction by MacTiernan make this movie a tense piece of action. This film is full of memorable action and ho-hum dialogue - but it works. The film doesn't miss a beat once the tempo picks up. On the whole it is a well-conceived, well executed action/thriller.

MacTiernan knew the limits of the film's concept and the actors he worked with, and squeezed them for everything they were worth. Someone like Donner at the helm probably would have made a mess of this movie, whereas MacTiernan demonstrates real class, following it up with arguably the best action movie of contemporary film-making - Die Hard.

Solid film-making which did not try to do too much!
