Review: BLADE's screenplay writer, during one of the featurette of this DVD, says something that has left me a little bit puzzled. He said : " My generation (1970-1980) learned the basis of morality in comic books ". ? . I don't know whether you realize what's the implication of such a sentence. Where were you, parents, schoolteachers and priests of whatever church ? Have twenty-five centuries of civilization produced only a generation of Super-Bat-Blademan's addicts after all these wars, martyrs and sacrifices ? The answer is yes, and, after all, who cares ? We've got what we deserve, don't we ?Now, after this philosophical minute, back to BLADE. Nothing new under the sun. We have the good guys (you and me, not them), we have the bad guys ( the ones with the long teeth ) and we have the guy in-between (robocop, the hero, the semi-god, Blade). We have a lot of special effects, a lot of blood, a lot of guns and not the slightest original idea. We have a lot of money to spend but no style at all. But after all, who cares ? We've got the movies we deserve, don't we ? So, if you want to see a real vampire movies, you definitely have to get back to John Carpenter's VAMPIRES. But if you are a Disneyland fan, you will surely have a great time with BLADE. A DVD for my children, alas !

Review: I've seen this movie atleast 200 times and I have only watched one other movie that many times and that's The Matrix! This movie is perfect in every way! Snipes is the MAN!

Summary: '90's Celluloid Comic
Review: Taking into account that the film is based upon a Marvel Comics character created by two of Marvel's Grand Old Men--Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan--and updated for '90's sensitivities, it's not surprising what the result is: a techno-goth comic book on screen. Half-Vampire Blade (Wesley Snipes) peruses New York City in leather overcoat, Ray-Bans and flak jacket exterminating the city's Vampire infestation with the help of gritty mentor Whistler (Kris Kristopherson) and recent near-Vampiree Karen Jenson (N'Bushe Wright). To stir things up, Vampire outcast and resident beatnik-garbed dissenter Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff) looks to unravel the secrets of some ancient Vampiric texts to unleash some all-powerful Vampiric hocus-pocus that will enable him to essentially, in true comic book megalomaniac style, rule the world. All the other comic requisites are present, including nifty gizmos, cool car (afer all, where would Batman be without the Batmobile?), withdrawn scientist-type, hapless cronies, the ability to stroll around the populous in a goofy costume without inciting mass-derision or even suspicion, and unfortunately, cornball dialogue and a flair for melodramatic posturing. In fact, some of the shots appear as though they could be lifted directly from comic book panels. Being shot predominantly in stark, cold tones (a technique used to death later in "The Matrix") and augmented with a techno soundtrack emphasizes the "alternative," techno-goth atmosphere, and the mega-gore, chop-sockey slash-fest attitude suggests that the core demographic aimed at is testosterone-laden, pubescent boys of the '90's. Obvious testimony is the opening "blood rave" sequence which sets the tone to satisfy the ardent alterna-goth-punk and Vampire fan. Snipes is perfectly cast, and supplies all the right balletic butt-whuppin' the role requires, but he can't save the lines from sounding cliched. Dorff comes off as a disassociated college art student heavy on attitude, overplaying the cheesy, "I'm so COOL" nonconformist villain. Kristopherson's Whistler could easily have been Sam Elliot reprising his role in the gawd-awlful "Roadhouse." In the end, "Blade" is pure comic-book-mentality escapist fare, and doesn't pretend to be more. It will reward all those seekers of relentless, larger-than-life choreographed fighting, "cool" '90's-soaked characterization, and hackneyed dramatic content (hero saves the day). However, if you'd like to see a sophisticated treatment of an interesting character and premise, you're better off elsewhere. In short, "Blade" succeeds at being a cinematic comic book (as did "The Crow"), and as such probably deserves the two "thumbs ups" given by Gene and Roger, not to mention the bevy of five star ratings on Amazon's review site (it would be interesting to see an age demographic of those submitting the lauding reviews). But if you're beyond the comic book mentality and expect more from your movies, "Blade" isn't the place to find it.

Summary: One of the Best Vampire Flicks Around
Review: As an avid fan of vampire movies, I couldn't wait to see Wesley Snipes take on the role of Blade. It was worth every second of the wait. This movie is a rocking, rollicking thrill ride of a vampire movie, with fully-developed heroes, villians and storylines. From the opening "nightclub" scene to the final battle there is never a dull moment. Based on the "comic" book character Blade, this movie follows the exploits of the half-vampire, half-human bloodsucker slayer, who has taken it upon himself to rid the world of the vampire vermin. Snipes is fantastic in this role. He has the swagger and the athleticism to carry it off with true style. Having seen him in this role, I could not even imagine another actor taking it on. Kris Kristopherson has developed a second career playing a crusty mentor type, and he is very good at it. Stephen Dorff brings a good attitude as Blade's nemisis, although he lacks the some of the charisma that the character requires. Other than that, I have no complaints about this movie. The story, directing and acting are all first rate. If you like action packed excitement, you will love this movie. It starts in high gear and never slows down. Violent and bloody, it is not for the young or squemish, but if you are neither, slap it in the DVD player and have a great time. This was the first DVD I ever bought and I have watched it many times since. A classic Vampire/Action movie. Add it to your collection and enjoy the ride.

Review: what a movie i say... very good action film & snipes is the best actor for blade actually. Great effects and thoughts. Very good film. You must watch and never miss it.

Review: Wesley Snipps is Blade a warrior at night and some kind of life during the day.At birth his mother was somehow bit by a powerful vampire named Frost,when Blade becomes an adult he is chosen to defeat these creatures of night.Blade is no only a one man army and leathal but he has powers , beyond other normal vampires. But when Frost makes plans to rise the blood god who will turn everyone it touches, Blade will go into battle to stop the ritual.Good action and choreographed martial arts sequences , Blade is Batman on battery acid. This DVD has more options then you could ever want it comes complete with everthing but a kitchen sink if you want to know how they made this super action movie then this DVD is for you.

Summary: This is why you buy DVD
Review: This was a great action/horror film, packed with some excellent special effects, an entertaining storyline, and at least a couple of reasonably talented actors (Snipes, Dorff). Kristofferson is terrible as always (a hint to you casting people... Sam Elliott would have been MUCH better as the tough and gritty Whistler). But you're not really reading this review to hear about the movie -- you can get that kind of info anywhere. What you want to know is "Is the DVD worth buying instead of a VHS tape?" Weeeellll... This movie is undoubtedly THE showcase movie for DVD (the Mummy is another very good choice). The picture quality is fantastic, and the sound is incredible (you gotta listen to it in Dolby Digital 5.1 on a nice home theater system to fully appreciate the sound). But what really sets this format apart from anything else are the SPECIAL FEATURES. A ton of things like information about the different Vampire houses, commentary from the director on the making of the film, and an alternative ending, really show how the DVD format can add to your viewing experience. Many DVDs (too many, in fact) are simply direct transfers from another format to DVD. No extras, limited enhancements on picture and sound... A perfect example of a BAD DVD is Highlander! The DVD versions of the Bond movies have also shown the industry a thing or two about how to make a truly interesting and worthwhile DVD movie. DVDs like Blade make me happy I purchased a DVD player!

Summary: Best Marvel movie! (though it doesn't have any competition)
Review: This movie ROCKS! After seeing this, I realized there was some hope for a Marvel Comics movie after all. After watching junk like Nick Fury, Generation X, Captain America etc, finally a good marvel movie is made! (of course I liked the Hulk series and the Dr. Strange movie, but that's not the point.) Wesley Snipes makes an awesome Blade, and Stephan Dorff is evil as Deacon Frost. My favorite scene is when Frost is holding that little girl hostage in daylight and Blade comes up, both are dressed in black in sunglasses facing each other from across the street. They say little and Frost just vanishes after Blade gets at him. Awesome! I reccomend this movie to any Marvel fan, vampire fan, kung fu fan, or good film fan. Excelsior!

Summary: Blade - Cuts both ways
Review: Blade is an awesome movie from the Marvel comic (how could they go wrong?) - but what I wanted to say here is - whats with the Region Codes and the differences with DVDs. This Blade US copy has different features to the one I bought in Australia which boasts it has two endings. What's up with that ?
