Summary: Too boring and inaccurate
Review: I very much like war movies, but I have no idea what this movie was about. It was way off in depicting the Vietnam War (if you want a good depiction of that war, check out Platoon) and besides that, I still didn't find the movie interesting or anything remotely representing an Academy Award winning movie.

Summary: Don't watch for historical accuracy
Review: This movie, is quite simply one of the best movies ever made, but don't watch it as a historical view of the Vietnam War. In reality this movie is not at all about Vietnam, rather it is about the darkness of a person's soul. Although I feel it is better understood if you read Heart of Darkness(A book everyone should read) this film definatly nails the point, although the ending leaves a little to be desired. After your first time watching it, watch it again only this time watch it at a deeper level, there are so many levels to this movie, so try to watch the symbolism, and enjoy it not for historical purposes, but for the shear meaning behind it.

Summary: One of the best movies ever
Review: When i first saw this movie, I was ten years old. I was pretty clueless to the fact of any real meaning and was frightened by the soundtrack. It is an experience to watch. However, one finds a few insipid reviews of the movie because they choose to define it as a war movie. It is nothing of the sort. It is a more vivid verson of Citizen Kane. It also contains many parrallels to Moby Dick. This movie is simply amazing. A must for any movie buff

Summary: Do you value your views on society?
Review: If not, -open minds here people!-, this movie is for you! This is one of those rare and elusive movies that actually makes you re-evaluate how you look at the world. Everytime I watch this movie, I find myself in a virtual state of shock. The best way to sum the film (as uneloquent as it is) is "whoah."

What makes Apocalypse Now so special? It's lines such as "Do you realize that IF is the middle word in LIFE," and the dialogue regarding how the world views obscenity is rather powerful. You begin the movie thinking you know what makes someone either "sane" or "insane." You finish the movie with the realization that you truly have no idea...

Definately one of the most brilliant films ever made.

Summary: good helicopter Music in trailer
Review: If you have a sound system with four loudspeakers, you may want to skip the film and just listen to the helicopter music echoing around the room in the trailer. Seriously, it's a good film, but having watched the Deer Hunter the night before, I found it a bit tame. The plot is easy to follow: a soldier is requested to track down a top-notch colonel in Vietnam who has apparantly gone crazy. But him and his collegues' experiences in Vietnam are nothing compared to Russian Roulette (dam I keep refering to THAT film). When he eventually catches up with Brando, I was expecting loads of action, but the film just ended as if they ran out of budget. Did I miss something here ?

Summary: Couldn't get into it
Review: This was the worst war movie I have ever seen and is too historically inaccurate and very unrealistic. I felt I couldn't get into it. It had a totally unrealistic plot also. I don't recommend this movie to anyone

Summary: Apocalypse Pow !
Review: Francis Ford Coppola's ground breaking vietnam epic has engrained itself in American culture for many reasons. One is the incredible cinematography that infuses a surreal, dreamy quality that takes the viewer through a mystical time period of hatred, madness, insanity, thought-provoking wonder. The story follows Martin Sheen. who has been sent to find the insane Colonial Kurtz and "terminate him, with extreme predujice". The moment the film opens with the sound of helicopter blades buzzing in the backround and "THe End"(music by the DOORS) playing wimsically, the audience knows they are in for a journey. Sheen and a group of other recruits are sent up the Nung river into Cambodia to find Kurtz. Only Sheen knows of the missions deadly ending. As they make their way into cambodia, Sheen begins to identify with Kurtz's unexpected yet suddenly reasonable course to insanity. The pilgramage that Sheen makes leads him to a symbolic, haunting, emotionally tugging finale that, while somewhat too cerebral makes for a chilling end and reality. Look for an oscar nominated performance by Robert Duvall and his now infamous "Ride of the Valkyries" scene. THe widescreem format especially livens this encounter. This film was nominated for best picture, won two academy awards and was ranked #29 on the AFI's top 100 list.

Review: Sick! This is the kind of movie that is purely a dillusion on what happened in Vietnam. It's becuase of sick movies like this that gave America's vets a bad name. If you want to see a LSD version of the war that is sick, tasteless, and offensive, this movie is for you. But if you want a TRUTHFULL look on what happened in Vietnam, watch HAMBURGER HILL, 84 CHARLIE MOPIC, AND PLATOON.

Summary: One of the Classics
Review: "Apocalypse Now", "Patton", and "Gardens of Stone" are the three must have movies in a War Buff's collection. I don't know how many times I've seen this movie (I had a copy on VHS and wore it out). The acting is top notch and the cinematography is superb. The transition from VHS to DVD was surprisingly excellent. The clarity of sound and picture, over any of the VHS copies I've seen, enrich the viewing experience 10 fold. The "lost" ending to the movie was also a pleasant surprise (a lot of explosions and implied gore, but still the perfect climax). Ditching your VHS copy of "Apocalypse Now" in favor of DVD is money well spent. If you've never seen the movie before and want to see excellent acting, and direction, the DVD version is the only way to go.
