Review: Mark Wahlburg stars in a remake of the 1969 film (note to directors/producers: there's a little thing called 'originality'.. try it sometime). Mark plays a thief who plans a major gold heist in Italy with the help of an old pro (played by Donald Sutherland), a computer hacker (Seth Green), a demolitions expert (Mos Def), and a get-away man (Jason Statham). The plan goes perfectly but one of the other members of the group (Ed Norton's character) gets greedy, takes the gold and leaves the rest of them for dead. The group decides to get the gold back with a little help from a safecracker (played by Charlize Theron) who also happens to be the old pro's daughter. The movie has amazing action sequences and stunts. The writing fades a bit about an hour into the movie. About the only rediculous part is the blatant product endorsing (mini Cooper cars, Pepsi Blue). Some clothing line might have made a mint if their name showed up on Charlize's near see-through tank tops.. guessing it was quite cold on the set. Also getting some audience interest is a mechanic nicknamed 'Wrench' played by Franky G, who made over half the female crowd go "Wooo!". Maybe the steroids made him forget his last name. ;) Movie warnings: profanity, no Marky Mark singing (thank God), no sex scenes, three 'yeah rights', and the emergence of the acting career (non-speaking role) of Man Show Juggy girl Julie Costello as Becky, the cable girl. If you're into the adrenaline rush movies with added comedy in the right places, I would highly recommend this one.

Summary: Exciting and fun, one of the better remakes this year
Review: 'Trust everybody, just not the devil inside.' The stage is set at Venice and the target is thirty-five million dollars worth of gold bullion. John Bridger, a master safecracker, is about to pull the last job of his career. Only this time he isn't running the show, that responsibility has been passed on to his successor Charlie Crocker, the mastermind behind the whole scheme. Everything goes according to plan, until one of them decides to doublecross the rest of the group. Now, a year after that unfortunate incident, Charlie finally locates the traitor's trail. He enlists the help of John's daughter Stella, who happens to be an expert of safes and locks herself. Together with his former cohorts, they will attempt to reclaim what is rightfully theirs', as well as exact revenge the person that betrayed them. Admittedly the plot of The Italian Job follows the same set up as most caper films: a crew get together, then comes the obligatory introduction of the important players, with the explanation, the preparation and finally the completion of the heist. Despite the formulaic scenario, director Gray's execution was so energetic and thrilling that such contrivance can be easily overlooked. There were a couple of story elements that were never fully explained to my satisfaction. Even so, these irritations did not dampen my enjoyment for the film. 'There are two kinds of thieves in the world: ones that steal to enrich their lives, and ones that steal to define their lives.' Mark Wahlberg is likeable enough as the main character Charlie, but lacks the charisma to carry the movie himself. Luckily, the rest of the cast was more than capable of picking up the slack. Charlize Theron exudes confidence and a kind of recklessness in the role of Stella Bridger; her charm is unmistakable here. Edward Norton, on the other hand, seems to lack his usual intensity playing the villainous Steve. Seth Green is again relegated to be the token wise-cracker, don't get me wrong, the guy is funny and does a good job as the computer wizard Lyle, but I think he is capable of much more than just the comedy relief. Jason Statham is dynamic as Handsome Rob, and Mos Def's Left-Ear is quirky. It is a shame that Donald Sutherland's part is so small, even though his character, John Bridger, is an important aspect of the story. I confess that for most of the film I was dreading the cliched romance between the two leads that is usually found in these movies, and to my surprise the writers never resorted to it. Choosing instead to ride the adrenaline rush all the way to the end, and The Italian Job benefited greatly because of that decision. The Italian Job is full of kinetic energy with well-staged speedboat and car chases, it is an excellent film and a fun movie with a lot to offer for fans of the heist genre. I was pretty much caught up in the excitement after a few minutes into it, and what followed was one heck of a ride. This is what summer blockbusters are all about, having a good time.

Summary: Doesn't "Deliver"
Review: band of thieves, led by Charlie Croker (Wahlberg), pulls off the ultimate heist by rigging the stoplights of the city of Los Angeles so that they can drive right out of the city with a carful of gold (in a safe that they're stealing back after Croker's double-crossing ex-partner, played by Edward Norton, stole it from Croker first), with nothing but greenlights, while everyone else gets redlights, thus keeping the roads plugged with the largest traffic jam in L.A. history, and the police from pursuing them. I didn't really enjoy this movie. the plot is corny and ed norton just doesn't look or sound like a bad guy. it does have some good action moments and it is worth too see but I wouldn't buy it

Summary: Good job until...
Review: Two other movies came to mind while watching 'The Italian Job'. First is the obvious similarities to 'Ocean's Eleven'--but only six people involved. The second film is last year's very poorly made 'Femme Fatale'. 'Italian' opens with the clever heist of a safe filled with gold bars. 'Femme' had a clever heist, but was dragged out. And where as 'Femme' had an excellent finale, this one lacks any power. Well acted, enjoyable, good job until that ending.

Review: I enjoyed this, but not as much as I enjoyed the original. I don't think it can be the real Italian Job without Michael Caine saying, "I told you to only blow the bloody doors off." Even without Michael Caine I think this movie was quite enjoyable and worth seeing, although I highly recommend seeing the original either before or after you see this movie.

Summary: Not a remake of the original-stands on its own
Review: I went and saw this movie at the Minis Only world premier in Hollywood. I wouldn't call this movie a remake of the original though it does have a lot of scenes that are similar. The car chase scenes are pretty cool. There is also a few scenes with a classic Mini in it (for those who aren't big fans of the new MINI) If you like car movies, I'd say definitely go and see it. It is difficult to review it without giving anything away!

Summary: The Italian Job
Review: I just got home from thoroughly enjoying a preview showing of The Italian Job, 2003. The theme is familiar, the schtick is familiar, but the story is completely different. The new movie is to the old movie what the new Mini is to the old Mini. Similar, but very different, modern high tech verses basic seat of the pants... and both are very entertaining. I'm a long-time fan of the original Italian Job and will never get rid of my copy; but I now have a new favorite movie and will be adding The Italian Job 2003 to my collectionn. BTW, the new version has a great sound track too and I'll be buying that as well.

Review: While watching this movie, the movie "Italian Job" (with actor Mark Wahlberg in the movie)is really entertaining with having suspense, humor, action, and drama in the movie. It has everything a person wants in a movie. And it's worth watching it with Mark Wahlberg in it. :)
So, if you didn't watch it, grab that tape or DVD and watch it with a love one.
This tape even reminds me of "Mission Impossible".

Summary: A great action movie
Review: John Bridger, an aging robber, helps out with one last job before passing the reins over to his protégé, Charlie Croker. The job: to steal a safe full of gold bricks from a heavily guarded house in Venice, Italy. The plan goes without a hitch until the team is double-crossed by Steve, one of its own members, who kills Bridger and believes the others dead. A year later, Charlie's been searching for Steve and the gold bricks and finally tracks them down to Los Angeles. With the aid of Bridger's daughter Stella, a top-notch safecracker working on the right side of the law, the team plots to exact revenge on Steve and to steal back the gold bricks. I thoroughly enjoyed this film. The script takes a back seat to the action sequences: the opening heist in Venice with a power boat chase through the canals to the Mini Coopers racing through the Metro of LA to the carfeully planned re-routing of armored cars via hacking into the traffic mainframe. The actors work very well together: Donald Southerland as John Bridger; Mark Wahlberg as Charlie Croker; Charlize Theron as Stella Bridger; Jason Statham as Handsome Rob who has a way with cars and women; Mos Def as Left Ear, an expert safecracker; Seth Green as Lyle the computer genius; and Edward Norton as Steve, the double-crosser. The DVD extras are prettygood, especially the documentary about the car chase sequence throught he Metro tunnels. This is a fast-paced, exciting movie sure to get your adrenaline pumping
