Review: I dislike all of the Rocky Movies. I'm sorry, but they are all mindless, and Sylvester Stalone is annoying, and can't act. One star is giving this movie way too much credit.

Review: I'm not after reviewing the picture nor the extras on this DVD, I just wanna tell you all what a great film this is! Sylvester Stallone wrote the script himself, and he wouldn't sell it unless he got to play the part of Rocky Balboa himeself. The movie is thouching, exciting, humerous and happy. Actors Talia Shire, Burgess Meredith and Burt Young makes this movie come to life, aswell as an excellent performance from Carl Weathers!The film was shot in 28 days, and the budget came to 1.1 million dollars. Despite all of this, Rocky is, and will always be one of the best movies ever made!

Summary: Movie's great but "Special Edition" DVD is hardly special!
Review: First of all, let me just say that the orginal "Rocky" movie is terrific entertainment and worth owning in any format, but this so called "Special Edition" DVD left me a bit disappointed. To start with, Stallone does a half hour video commentary explaining how he developed the film. This is fine, but for the most part, it's just a close-up of Stallone talking with a few clips and photos from the movie. No other creative effort was made to interest the viewer, so it's no surprise that it seemed to drag on for a lot longer than the short 30 minutes that it actually was. Would it have been that hard to interlace some more behind-the-scenes clips and even some background music? I got tired of looking at Stallone's dead-pan expression and monotone voice after just 10 minutes, which is a shame, because I really admire this movie. Then there are the 3 Rocky featurettes which consisted of a 12 minute video commentary by the director, a tribute to Burgess Merideth, and a tribute to James Crabe. Unfortunatley, these so called extras looked even more rushed than the Stallone commentary. None of these are more than 12 minutes, with the shortest one being just a pathetic 3 minutes! Why even bother advertising these on the cover?!? The video commentary by the director was only 9 minutes long and it's shot in the same boring manner as Stallone's commentary. The last 3 minutes were nothing more than silent footage of Stallone and Carl Weathers practicing boxing. Why wasn't there a voice-over by the director or even Stallone so we could gain some more insight into what we were watching? The so called tribute to Burgess Merideth was just 7 minutes long with various people talking about him while photos of him flashed on the screen. Hardly a fitting tribute to a man who's work spanned 60 years. The other tribute on this DVD was even worse because it was even shorter! After watching these, it became evident that it would have been much better to combine these featurettes into one big "Making of..." documentary instead of these short tid-bits that are over as quickly as they began. The movie-length audio commentary features the director, two producers, Talia Shire, Burt Young, and Carl Weathers...but no Stallone!!! This was the ultimate disappointment, as he had the greatest insight to share with fans of this great movie. Even Schwarzenegger did the audio commentary for the Conan the Barbarian Special Edition DVD, and he didn't even write it! The Rocky trailers are cool to see, but the "orignal advertising materials" that are touted on the cover are nothing more than a few short TV spots. I was expecting a bunch of stills and posters promoting the film like other Special Edition DVDs.
Overall, this "Special Edition" appeared completely rushed and lacked any creativity by the producers of the DVD. Fans who just want to see the movie will not be disappointed, but fans who were hoping for some cool insights that one comes to expect from such DVD's will be left hanging. For "Special Edition" DVD's done right, I highly recommend checking out Superman: The Movie, Conan the Barbarian, and surprisingly...the Supergirl: The Movie DVD.

Summary: The Special Edition doesn't dissapoint!
Review: Buying DVD's, when you already own the VHS version, can sometimes feel like a waste of money. However, added footage can always be the selling point. That's exactly the case with Rocky. When you have seen this movie as often as I have - it's gotta be in the hundreds - it's refreshing to finally get some insight into the making of this classic. The commentary by Stallone is very funny and gives you a fresh look at how this film came to light. Sadly, Stallone has never kept his edge -or eye of the tiger- with many of his later films. My favorite feature of this DVD is the commentary track that goes of the entire film! Comments from the directors, producers, and actors (Shire, Young, and Weathers - but no Stallone!) are continuous as you watch the film. That is perfect for the big fan who has seen the movie many times but wants to know more about the fight sequence, for example. Special features sell DVD's. Stallone figured this out and released Rocky again. Sadly, I don't think 2 -5 have special features. Otherwise, I would already own the boxed set. Rocky, by itself, is a must-own DVD.

Summary: 5.1 Soundtrack Disappointing
Review: This review refers to the DVD version. Although I love Rocky and consider it one of my all tiem favorites, I was disappointed with the Dolby 5.1 soundtrack. There is almost no sound in the rear channels. Now I realize Rocky is not a special effects movie, but there were times those channels should have been used such as the fight sequence. Almost the entire soundtrack is through the center channel. To be honest I don't now how they get away with calling it Dolby 5.1. In terms of picture quality there are several glitches throughout the movie, but it is ok for the most part. Also not all of the movies in the DVD 5 pack are Widescreen anamorphic. It is nice to have Rocky in widescreen DVD, but don't expect the same overall quality as other DVDs. Maybe that's why this DVD is cheaper than most good DVDs. Summary: YO! ROCKY'S STILL GOT WHAT IT TAKES
Review: Seeing the movie again on this new "SPECIAL EDITION "DVD brought back some fond memories for me. I can still remember my folks taking my brothers and sisters and me to see ROCKY at the the old WOOD theater back in '76. I can still hear the thunderous cheers from the crowd during the climactic fight scene. It holds up very well and I do think that this is Sly's best film. I think that as is the case with many of his films, all of his characters just seem like cardboard cut-outs of Rocky Balboa. Of course as a young boy back then all I wanted to see was more fight sequences, now, 25 years and one film degree later, I have leaned to love the movie for more than its boxing footage. The fact that I live just outside of Philadelphia, where the movie was shot, only enhances my appreciation of the film. The on-screen chemistry between Stallone and Talia Shire is so much more "real" than most relationships seen at the movies today. As for the bonus material featured on the disc, the standout commentary by the director, John G. Avildsen, and others is well done The 8 minute tribute to actor Burgess Meredith and the 3 minute tribute to Cinematographer James Crabe are both needed and welcome. Lastly, hearing the finale in DOLBY DIGITAL is awesome! WOW!

Summary: Rock--What more could you need in a movie?
Review: This is one of the greatest stories of all time. Rocky paved the way for all movies, comedies included, that give the underdog a chance at fame and glory. From nothing to greatness, Rocky shows us that all you need is heart and the will. Accompanied by a great soundtrack, this movie is a winner from start to finish. Along with the other four, possibly the greatest collection of films to date. If you ever need an uplift, or a reason to work out, even get your life in order, the Itallian Stallion is the key.

Summary: The Best Rocky Film
Review: This is without a doubt the best Rocky Film of them all. The atmosphere in this film is excellent, Rocky 5 tried to re-create it but failed. Im sure you all know the story. Rocky Balboa lives in a poor part of America and makes his money working for a lone-shark and boxing. He then undeservedly gets a shot of the world heavyweight title. The only reason that its not a 5 star movie is that at the end you are left with a lot of unanswered questions. If youve enjoyed other rockys and havnt seen this then rent it now.

Review: My brother say's it's very close to Raging Bull with Bobby De'niro.Rocky inspires everyone that you can get that dream you want.It's a brillient story of ordinary boxer doing his trade who gets a crack at the big one the heavyweight champion of the world. Four more rocky's came after this but this is my favourite and the original and made Sly Stallone what he became.He wrote this film and he was the Director as well so he is not as stupid as people make him out to be. Buy this and put it in your collection it's a must forget the rest of them(rocky's) sorry to say.
