Godzilla vs. Megaguirus

Summary: Godzilla gets a job with pest control. Our problems are over
Review: i dont like bugs that much but Megaguirus is cool. The story for this movie halfway between weird and cool. But the action is awesome!!!! The effects are supreme!!! Especially at the beginning who knew they could make that look good. It is awesome Godzilla does the hardcore body slam on Megaguirus. Awesome addition to the Shinsei series.

Summary: Who Needs Bug Spray....
Review: ...when you got Godzilla to radioactively melt and stomp them away? I have been a G fan since the early 1970's and am blessed to have the opportunity to watch some of the old and newer G flicks. This movie, henceforth referred to as GvMeg, turned out to be better than I had expected: the use of plasma to create a black-hole weapon is fascinating; there is fair balance between character development and hard core action; the use of 12-frames per second (?) shots on the epic fight scene between Godzilla and Megaguirus is unique; the city and land models have very cool details and the wide angle shots are believeable, especially in scenes showing Godzilla's approach to Tokyo.

Many of Godzilla's films (that I have seen recently) are filled with hard core action at the expense of character development, but I think this is a weakness rather than a strength. I like GvMeg because it attempts to balance the two elements. The other G films that I have seen directed by Masaaki Tezuka are Godzilla against. Mechagodzilla (2002) and, recently, Godzilla Tokyo SOS (2003). I prefer GvMeg over Godzilla againt Mechagodzilla, despite the many complaints of the special effects in GvMeg. BTW, the worst special effects scene in GvMeg must be chapter 20 on the DVD, the night scene when we first see Megaguirus. The effects shots were too "crisp." It needed less lighting and more smoke effects to hide the mobility wires of the Megaguirus model. Other than this one scene, I thought the SFX were pretty cool! The picture and sound quality are very good, and the inclusion of the Japanese audio track was an excellent decision by Sony Pictures. I give this film 3.5 out of 5 and include it on my top 5 favorite G films.

Review: Made right after Godzilla 2000, its seems to be an upgrade in just about all areas. But still, Toho has not put out a great film (what else is new?) The human characters are better developed, as are the special effects. Godzilla battles a huge dragonfly as the human characters try to suck him into a black hole. Overall pretty good, but nothing out of this world (cant compare to GMK) Still a worthy DVD, and a must have to your collection.

Summary: Godzilla - What happened?
Review: Man this Godzilla Sucks, it's not the fact that there are wires that you can see or the cheesy dialoge (to be expected) I just don't feel like this movie has any personality. NONE - I am one who loves the BIG green lizard. Bring back the old style when he was good sometimes bad oh well let's wait for the next one.

Review: If you compare this with "Giant Monsters All-Out Attack", you may be a lttle disappointed. But, overall its a fine "popcorn" movie. I think Kirko Tsujimori is an interesting character. (She is played by a very fine performer, Misato Tanaka).

Character development is not a strong suite in Godzilla movies. But, her reason for chasing the BIG G, revenge, is clear.

Special effects are adequate. The monster costumes are up to the Toho standards. The big battle scene has some interesting moments.

Best sequence in the film is when Tsujimori climbs on the back of Godzilla to plant a tracking device. Tsujimori has plenty of spunk!!

Summary: Feeble Godzilla Film
Review: "Godzilla vs. Megaguirus" is to me the worst of the 'millennium' Godzilla series so far. The special effects are terrific for the series, but everything else (the human story, the characters, the dialogue, the silly plot) are a massive disappointment. Even Megaguirus, the new monster, isn't particularly memorable. Plus, like nearly all of the 1970s Godzilla movies, a child is a main character (never a good sign in a movie like this). There are good points (especially the opening 'newsreel,' which kicks this movie off on a high note), but overall, this should only be recommended to die-hard Godzilla fans.
The DVD is in its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio. Being a relatively recent movie, it looks nice, with good bright colours and few scratches. Unlike many Godzilla DVDs, both to original Japanese audio and English dubs are included (which should be appreciated by purists). There are no special features besides trailers for a few other Columbia Tristar DVDs, which is a bit of a shame. Production notes, Japanese trailers, or liner notes are all I ask.
