Summary: Finally--A Wholesome, Decent Movie!
Review: This was an excellent movie--particularly in comparison to the others available today. It had it all--action, adventure, drama, mystery, sci-fi. It was sort of a James Bond meets Star Trek and Blues Clues, all wrapped into one. And it was entirely appropriate viewing for children--provided they are old enough to distinguish make-believe from reality. If your child cannot make that distinction, yet, then they may become frightened by some of the make-believe characters and/or situations such as being kidnapped and taken to a cartoonish-type place.

The plot is a noble one--two children risk all to rescue their parents. Unbeknownst to them until now, their parents were spies. And now they've been kidnapped. These children use their parents' spy equipment and their own ingenuity and bravery to rescue their parents. But the best feature of this entire film is the underlying message that family is very important.

My advice--watch this movie with your children. And, if your children are extremely young, then buy it when it comes out on video and watch it with them later when they are old enough to enjoy it.

Summary: Best kids movie of the year!
Review: We saw this movie with our children, who span ages 2 to 9. We all loved it. It was charming, funny and intelligent. We all had lots of belly laughs mixed in with many suspenseful moments. It was sometimes like a fairy tale and sometimes like a nightmare. All of our children enjoyed it and all of us would gladly see it again. Can't wait for the DVD!

Summary: The greatest March movie
Review: I absolutely loved this movie! I thought Alex Vega and Daryl Sabara did an excellent job playing Carmen and Juni Cortez. I loved the scene where Carmen says, "Oh shittake mushrooms!" And I loved the scene where Carmen and Juni fight the robots that are identical to them. I can't wait until this comes on DVD! My favorite characters were Carmen, Juni, Ingrid, Gregorio, and Floop. I can't wait to see Spy Kids 2.

Summary: Feel good family film
Review: This was a super fun movie to go to with my children. It helped children see that they can overcome limitations and accomplish great things. It really empowers children. It also was really pro family. We all left feeling like being a family was a wonderful thing. If we all work together we can really be happy, overcome obstacles, and be better for it.

Summary: Nice Movie, Nice Way to Spend an Afternoon
Review: When the Mrs. first suggested we catch this I was like, "Are you kidding me????" but, of course, we wound up seeing it and to be honest, I actually enjoyed it.

Once you get past the premise that "it's a dumb kid's movie" and watch it for what it is, you'll find yourself enjoying it. The movie's got all the elements of a good movie: humor, action, a little romance, funny villains and of course heroes. Oh, and since it's a "family movie," there's even a little lesson in here about "the value of a family." How can it go wrong?

The action sequences, while not Jackie Chan or even Bruce Willis, are acceptable -- it's a kids movie. The villains are actually pretty decent (albeit laughable, or even lovable). Keep in mind this is a kid's movie. They're tons of "mutated" villains that they fight. The spy gadgets are even better, almost in the James Bond vain, but of course, in a kids sorta way.

Overall, I'd recommend checking this film out. You're bound to enjoy it as long as you let that kid inside you come out. In particular, I recommend this for families who wanna treat the kids to a movie.

Check it out, you'll enjoy it.

Recommended (catch the matinee, we did)

Summary: The ultimate family movie
Review: Robert Rodriquez has come a long way from his El Mariachi days, and you can tell. Instead of becoming relaxed in telling his stories with huge budgets, he uses the budgets to tell a better story. I wish more independent to mainstream filmmakers would take this approach. I also admire the fact that he never really stays in one absolute genre. This is a family/action movie and it's so much fun. This is a movie that parents should take their kids to see and then the kids should take their parents. There is a great message of the importance of family, and where everyone fits in. The performances are very good and the script is well written. I give big thumbs up to Rodriquez who does everything for his films. He writes, directs, produces, edits, operates the camera, supervises the special effects, and even works on the score. He's a true filmmaker.

Summary: A "soon to be" cultural classic
Review: A great example of what a kid's movie can be. Spy Kids is a fun family romp. Filled with special effects and an inventive plot as the kids discover that the "boring" parents are actually international spies that (of course) only the children can save from a demented "Pee-Wee Herman" clone kiddie show star. A few gratuitous jokes based on the bathroom humor of the normal fifth grader, but great special effects and something most people won't get: This is THE hispanic movie of the year! The movie dosen't make it a big cultural deal; the plot dosen't revolve on some cultural portent. This famliy could have been anyone and anywhere within the constraints of the script. Often we see characters in films and wonder "why are they all WASP's?" There are black and hispanic and oriental judges, cops, and teachers. Usually only the "bad guys" are exotic or else the script lives and dies on some stereotypical point. I applaud this film and it's producers for making the featured players, many walk-ons, and the cameos (as well as locations) hispanic. {Here's something fun: don't mention this to he people you go with and see if they even notice.} This is one WASP who salutes Hollywood's use of the "big crayon box" in it's films!

Summary: Astonishing effects!
Review: This movie had a lot of action in it. That made it really enjoyable! It was even funnny sometimes, too. Parents, take your kids to this movie, parents love it too! Not enough stars for this movie! Give it 10 stars if I could.

Summary: Come on, people!
Review: "no fun"? This has to be the most fun I've had at the movies in a long time, and I am not an easily amused person. I was sitting front row with my mom (it's mother's day) and we were just dying of laughter. Maybe to someone who hasn't been exposed to enough pop culture to appreciate much of the humor then it's not a funny movie, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. All the high-tech spy gear adds an extra dose of the "gee-whiz" factor, and really makes you feel like a kid, being totally wowed by the cool things on the silver screen. And I was most impressed by the two kids. (the actors' names escape me right now) They really behave and seem to be siblings. Great performances, guys.

The only qualms I had with it were, as mentioned before by another reviewer, the 2 instances of bathroom humor. Otherwise this movie simply rocked. Go see it and be a kid again!
