Summary: ...with Vienna and Mozart to boot...
Review: A wonderful Cold War spy comedy done with wit and charm. Mature romance between Matthau and Jackson add mild spice. The bonus: beautiful views of Vienna, and lots of Mozart--and they fit right in to the plot!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of the funniest spy movies ever made
Review: The interaction between Matthau and Jackson is most special. Rarely has there been more chemistry between two leading actors. Can see the movie again and again.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One for the "all time favorites" rack
Review: hilarious movie, brilliantly written, excellent work on the whole. can be watched many, many times without boredom. a must see.

Summary: An all-time favorite!
Review: This is probably my most viewed video. Glenda Jackson is great with Matthau, probably one of the best duos for light and fun comedy. A great movie for a drab and rainy Sunday afternoon.

Summary: This is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen!
Review: Is there a way to ask the studio to re-release this movie

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great fun...very entertaining
Review: This movie is one of the most entertaining movies ever. Even though it was released in 1980, it is timeless as far as enjoyment. Just wish the studio would re-release it...my copy is almost worn out...

Summary: One of Matthau's best!
Review: This film is one of Walter Matthau's best. It starts with Kendig (Matthau) being taken out of the field, a job he loves in a way that insults him. He decides to write a book, with each chapter documenting his exploits while exposing many events embarrassing to the firm. Agents, many of whom like the guy, track him all over the world in an attempt to stop his revealing all their secrets. The film combines a good story, with comedy and great music to become my all-time favorite. It is a shame the film is not currently in distribution, but perhaps the studio will re-release it soon. If you can find it... it is a definite "must see".

Summary: Wonderful fun!!
Review: An earlier review on line listed Julie Christie as playing in this film. That is incorrect -- the lady is Glenda Jackson!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A Comedy Spy-thriller
Review: Walter Matthau is brilliant as a spy who decides he will leave the spy game and write his memoirs after being deemed to be too old for a field position. He manages to stay one step ahead of his fellow spies (led by a wonderful Ned Beatty) as they try to track him down and eliminate him before he can publish. This is one of my all-time favorite films and lots of fun.

Summary: CIA? KGB? No problem!
Review: Miles Kendig (Matthau), a much-respected and veteran field agent is suddenly demoted. His smarmy boss (Ned Beatty) wants him out of the picture and reassigns Kendig as nothing more than a glorified clerk.

Not to be outdone, Kendig sets out to even the score by revealing the dirty deeds of his career and those of his colleagues. Panic? You bet!

Our hero settles the score more than once. With craft and guile, Kendig eludes his captors left and right. Sometimes, right under their very noses! The delight in this film comes from the ingenious twists and turns that Kendig invents.

Glenda Jackson, in a supporting role, complements Matthau's droll manner superbly as does Sam Waterston as Kendig's protege and heir apparent.

Like all good films, the enjoyment is in the watching and wondering what's going to happen next. "HOPSCOTCH" is all that and so much more.
