Summary: What's the bloody point?
Review: There are war movies I would like to watch again, such as Pearl Habor. But I definitely do not want to watch this movie the second time. It taxed my patience even during the first viewing. For it is very poorly conceived as a movie: no characterization, no plot, no structure. As such, it is terribly boring. All one gets to see, for more than two hours, is brutality, blood, violence. Josh Hartnett is a talented actor, but he does not even have a chance to show his talent, for, like war itself, this movie does not allow people to emerge as individuals, and this hurts the point of the movie, which is "fighting for the man next to you." Great war movies do not just exhibit shooting, bombing, running and shouting. They show the audience who the soldiers are--not as machines, but as individuals, as human beings. This movie fails to do that, and for this reason, it fails to be moving.

Summary: A good film for military history buffs and action fans
Review: I purchased this film having not seen it. I made the decision based on friends' recommendations for the most part. Upon watching it, I felt about the same as most of them did, that it was a good film.

While watching the film, I continually kept thinking, "This really happened." I think that adds a bit to the movie's credibility. I knew the stories of many of the soldiers, especially the fate of Sgts Shugart and Gordon, both of which posthumously received the Congressional Medal of Honor, the only snipers ever to have received the highest military award.

This film is filled with star power, although most of the time during the action sequences, you can't really tell who's who. The 'Fog of War' came through loud and clear, especially when american soldiers took shots at each other, not knowing who the other was.

The film gives a home theatre system a pretty good workout, with lots of exercise for the surrounds. That's definitely something I look for in a movie is surround usage, and this one didn't disappoint. The video quality is excellent, and the 2hr 24 minute runtime isn't too long to sit and watch in one sitting.

The subject matter is a bit much for younger viewers, as it can be pretty graphic at times. I wouldn't suggest anyone under 14 or 15 be allowed to watch it, even with parents present.

Summary: One of the best war movies
Review: This movie ranks up there with Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket, Platoon and Saving Private Ryan as one of the best war depictions I have ever seen. This horrible true story tells the tale of a combined operation with Rangers and Delta Force that went wrong. Also shows how the UN can be very difficult to work with in a war situation. The acting in this movie is beyond excellent with a great cast. The music also adds to the drama with a combination of upbeat western movie music and arabic/muslim music to fit the mood of the area of Somalia. This is a must see for anyone and should be considered one of the greatest war movies of our time with Saving Private Ryan.

Summary: Rangers lead the way.
Review: The movie was excellent. Action from beginning till the end. The audio however is sub par in my opinion. If you have a good home theater system you will notice that it lacks separation in the channels. Still, it is almost a must have for any fan of war movies. Great performances from the entire cast.

Summary: Best movie in 2001 buy the 3 discs set
Review: Black Hawk Down was be far the best movie of 2001. The 3 disc set is well worth it. This is probadly one of the best war movies ever made. It was so well done that there is almost nothing you can really say. I mean it was released as a 1 disc a year ago and then it released again with all sorts of extras. .... 3 different commentaries by the Ridley Scott + Bruckheimer, Bowden the author of the book + Ken Nolan and then the actually soldiers who were there in Somilia.
Most of movies in this genre are completely made up for the most part(Rambo, Hart's War, Behind enemy lines). Some them are based on some event but it is not an actually story of events that did occur. This is the real thing it did happen. This movie is going to be a classic one day. Ridley Scott deserved to win best director in 2001.

Summary: 3 disc edition
Review: BHD is perhaps one of the best war movies I've ever seen(along with "we were soldiers") because of the realistic violence and the fact that it's as close to the actual event as the filmakers could get. The PBS and History channel documentaries are very interesting to watch as is the 2½ making of BHD on disc 2. The real Msgt. Matt Eversman and Msgt. Danny McKnight(played by Joshn Hartnett and Tom Sizemore in the film) can be heard on one of the three audio commentaries. The commentary with the screenwriter and book author provide comic relief because they take turns imitating director Ridley Scott's british accent. A very well made movie and it will make your head spin watching the documentaries and how it took thousands of people to make this movie without anyone dying all over again in "movie explosions".... ditch your old BHD dvd and upgrade to this one.

Summary: Outstanding movie
Review: This is perhaps my favorite movie of all time. It makes the viewer painfully aware of a forgotten or little understood conflict. The battle scenes in the movie are very intense. While the movie does not provide extensive background about the conflict, the two documentaries on disk 2 (totaling about 3 additional hours) provide some background.

Summary: Extraordinary war flick
Review: As close to real as I've seen it. No storyline except the real stroy--a firefight. no holds barred.

Summary: Buy it!
Review: After seeing BHD in theaters I knew I wanted the eventual DVD, but something made me wait and I'm glad I did! Black Hawk Down's new DVD release is better than the previous in every way with three commentaries, way more special features (hence the extra DVDs), and great mastering quality. I watch DVD movies on my computer with 2.1 speakers (or headphones sometimes so as to not disturb the roommate across the hall) so I can't speak for the various Dolby surround modes, but the image quality is excellent. If you have the previous DVD release sell it and get this one instead! Simply a great buy especially with Amazon's low price. :)

Summary: They got it right
Review: This is the version that should have been released in the first place!
