Rating: Summary: Good Collaboration Between DePalma and Pacino Review: Brian DePalma has to be one of the most enigmatic directors working today. His body of work is a checkered one. There are the occasional good films ("The Untouchables","Casualties of War"), the bad ones ("Bonfire of the Vanities"),the Hitchcock rip-offs("Obsession", "Body Double") and those in between("Scarface"). "Carlito's Way" is one of his good ones. Unlike "Scarface", this tale of a recently released from prison Puerto Rican hood (Al Pacino)who vows to go straight is a good one. You fully believe that Carlito is going to go straight and retire to the islands with his Anglo girlfriend (Penelope Ann Miller). Carlito's fatal flaw is a misguided loyalty to the wrong people, in this case his brilliant but sleazy lawyer(Sean Penn). The cast is uniformly excellent with Pacino pretty much playing it straight unlike his over-the-top performance in "Scarface". Penn is exceptional here. Miller is good here. When this film was made, she was being touted as an up and coming actress but her star seemed to wane thereafter. Viggo Mortensen shows up in a small but effective part as a wheelchair-bound hood. This film is essentially a thriller and it does deliver more than it's share of thrills and surprises. This sleeper from the early 90's is well worth checking out.
Rating: Summary: Ok movie Review: The scene in the begining is great. "Ok Im reloaded!". But there are just WAY TO MANY corny love scenes with bad music. Basically its all narrated by Carlito, he tells the story. Its a good movie but its just too drawn out and VERY boring most of the time. The movie is 143 minutes long. I would of cut alot of the scenes out. If your a Sean Penn fan, the Crime Drama "State of Grace" blows this movie away, there is NO comparison. Im a HUGE Al Pacino fan and yes his acting is superior in this or any of his films but as I said before it's just alot of boring scenes. (Yawn).
Rating: Summary: Here comes the pain!!!!!! Review: How is it possible that I'm just not getting around to seeing this movie?
Carlito Brigante a vindicated ex-con is desperate to escape his past life as a cocaine dealer. "I'm going straight!" He says, to anyone willing to listen. He's done it all and now his dream is to go to the Bahamas to invest in a car rental company.
Unfortunately, he's a stand up man from "THE NEIGHBORHOOD!" He's loyal, and respects the bond of friendship that he and his corrupt lawyer Dave Kleinfeld (Sean Penn) share.
Everyone has dreams, don't they? Carlito's dream was to get out! While successfully saving money in order to make a break. His heart is reopening to his past love Gail.
It's always the pursuit of your happiness that others seem to mess up for you! Corrupt Kleinfeld brings the pain to Carlito via the mafia, but what about his young nemesis Benny Blanco from Brooklyn, and those so called friends/enemies that help to deduct from his dreams.
Ray Charles "You are so beautiful" plays as we watch Carlito as he ends the story that he's told us from end to the beginning.
Al Pacino, has played them all! Major Cats in the game, not to mention he's been Italian, Cuban, and now Puerto Rican. I love this man...

Rating: Summary: Better than Scarface! Review: Al Pacino is just too good in this movie as hood turned released jail ex criminal now trying to go straight Carlito Briginate.
This film has a good plot and a lot of drama with decent action. While watching, you wonder what will happen next. Definitely one of the top five Pacino films I can see again and again.
