Review: I loved this movie. It was another excellent time piece by Mel Gibson. I am very happy that this movie is coming out on DVD so soon after it's theatrical release. I can't wait to get it and see it again and again! If you loved Braveheart you will love this.

Summary: This is the best war movie ever.
Review: This movie was so intense that you felt like you were in it. It had sad parts and funny jokes here and there. The Patriot depicts life as it could have been. The villian in this movie added such a zing to this. The intensity and anger of the two leading roles made this movie a definite buy for me. I hate to cry in movies but this movie was a tear jerker. Buy it.

Summary: It is an awesome war movie
Review: This movie is a must see! It has all the factors which determine if you like the movie! It has drama, romance,and of course war! The roles are played greatly by Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger and all the other gret supporting actors. This movie is based upon the civil war and has a good storyline to go along with its actors and actresses. I cried three times because It was so inspiring! It was about a family torn apart by the war that newly broke out while the father(Mel Gibson) tries to decide the best for his family his eldest son(Heath Ledger) disobeys his father by joining the the Patriots against his fathers wishes! I won't tell you anymore except that this is possibly the best war movie ever made! Thanks for listening and I hope you will enjoy the movie as much as I.

Summary: One of my favorite movies
Review: This movie tells the tale of how Benjamin Martin(Mel Gibson) and his family get brought into the war against the British. It is a great story and the acting is top notch. This dvd should have some nice bonus and a great anamorphic transfer along with incredible 5.1 sound. Well I dont know about you folks but I am definitely buying this to add to my collection.

Summary: Patriot DVD - Pre-review based on theatrical release
Review: DVD fans who purchased movies like Saving Private Ryan and The Thin Red Line know that the meticulous details in Sound and Visual Effects are reproduced the most faithfully in Digital format.These films are not light-hearted, sit-around eating in front of the TV movies. They are lasting, powerful movies filled with both disturbing imagery and beautiful landscapes. The inevitable comparisons to Braveheart pop up after screening this movie. Aside from the star of the movie and the gore-filled battle scenes, the movies remain distinct and culturally relevant. This movie is more action/drama than documentary, but that's how it was advertised and it lives up to it. Even with the fictional dramatizations, I could see this DVD being shown in American History classes in the future.

Summary: It's no Braveheart...
Review: The Patriot is Mel Gibson's stab at making another epic historical picture. While "The Patriot" is certainly more than satisfactory in parts it is not nearly in the same league as "Braveheart." I'm sure you know the plot to this and if you haven't then I'm sure you're best guess will be sufficient. Gibson plays a Father (with a mysterious, war ridden past) who attempts to keep his sons away from the war with Britain. Unfortunately his eldest son feels compelled to go and fight and leaves home. When the British pay Gibson a visit he sees their harshness firsthand and decides himself to return to battle. The battle scenes are really incredible. The film's three hour length would be unendurable had it not been for at least three or four really first class battle scenes thats save the picture. The Patriot is also beautifully shot in fine epic style. There is one shot in particular that stands out: The camera pans across several fields stretching for miles and you can see at least several thousand soldiers spread out across the fields. Very nice indeed. Unfortunately there are a number of things that are just terrible in this film. For some reason American studios seem to think that by making up history they are doing themselves a favour. The producers of "U571" certainly thought that. I don't know how this became such an anti-British film but many of the events are totally fictitious. In one scene the evil English general locks at least 50 innocent American women and children in a church. He then burns them alive. It turns out that this never actually occured in reality and has been staged purely to anger some foolish viewers in the audience. I thought if you are going to make a historical picture then yes, you can take some dramatic license with your material. You cannot just make up history as you please. Why not have Gibson fighting communist China while he was at it? The scripting is overwhelming bad and frankly the screenwriter deserves jailtime. Not only is the dialogue corny and contrived but everything that happens in the film can be predicted at least one hour before it occurs.

Summary: Not Braveheart, but still great!
Review: The first mistake I did when I first saw the Patriot, was that I was expecting another Braveheart. But this is not Braveheart, and it isn't trying to be. Roland Emmerich really shows that he is a great director who can handle a great script without destroying it with specialeffects. After Independence Day and Godzilla, Roland has finally stopped relying on the effects (allthough there are effects, but they do not own the screen at any time) and started to trust his own skills. He also has great help from the cast. Mel Gibson is great as both the carrying father, and as the cruel buther he is in war. Heath Ledger is abolutley a name to recon with for the future, and makes the son very well. So all and all this is a graet movie, that does NOT make all englishmen out to be a sead of evil, that some people have claimed.

Summary: another "independence day" for roland emmerich
Review: The Patriot is torn betwen its desire to be a commerical blockbuster and to be a fair representation of the Revolutionary War. This can be glimpsed by comparing the previous credits of the film's writer Robert Rodat (saving private ryan)and director Roland Emmerich (Godzilla, Independence Day). The moral weightiness of the former meets the popcorn atmosphere of the latter and the result is a flawed, but not without merit, piece of cinema. Mel Gibson is perfectly cast as a gentle caring widower and father of six who convincingly resorts to bloodthirsty rebel ways (he had previously fought in the French-Indian War)when his family's safety is first jeopardized and later torn asunder. He doesn'twant to get involved in the war dammit, but when push comes to shove, he will take on a British squadron of nearly 20 singlehandedly. This bloodthirsty segment in the film's first 1/4 gave even me pause and though its rationale is understandable, the film carries the weight of the scene uneasily towards the expectedly rousing finish when Mel doesbattle with the evil personified of the British troops (acted with relish and zest by Jason Isaacs.) Heath Ledger makes his own bid for stardom as Mel's oldest son who defies his father's orders and joins the battle against the Brits. The production design is smashing and the period detail true. And even though it goes on for too long at 2 3/4 hours, the film actually uses that length to flesh out several of the supporting characters, a worthy endeavor in a film whose ultimate prize is the $100 million mark at the box office.

Summary: Not Just Another Braveheart
Review: When first news of The Patriot reached my ears, i thought, "Oh, great, Braveheart 2. Mel Gibson kicking British booty." However, upon seeing The Patriot, I was completely proved wrong and fell in love with the movie. As opposed to many critics, I found the movie to be a fabulous film. Mel Gibson delivers a great performance as a family man/French and Indian War hero with a dark past trying to be a single dad and build chairs. However, when the Revolutionary War enters his front yard and threatens his family, he is forced to take arms against the British. Gibson is backed with the strong performance of Heath Ledger, who plays his son. The movie follows Gibson and Ledger as they lead a band of militia in South Carolina against General Cornwallis and his massive army of redcoats. The Patriot does have a few corny moments, and some very grotesque violence, but how can a movie possibly be bad when John Williams does the music? The Patriot isn't Braveheart, but it definitely can hold its own.

Summary: Simply Amazing
Review: Mel Gibson is a great director but I was very dissapointed with his other film "Payback". What a way to rebound from that stinker. "The Patriot" is almost as good as 1995's "Braveheart" and It ranks as one of my all-time favorites. On July 4th, me and my dad went to see it and were completely blown away. Good acting, great script, awesome action-sequences and from what I saw, it was also reasonably accurate to the Revolutionary War. Go buy this truly remarkable film today!
