Summary: Great movie!! But what's up with ... release date?
Review: The Patriot is a very good movie. It has a great cast and I highly recommend this movie, especially the DVD version. You get a great picture from the DVD version plus added features. If you have not made the move to DVD you are really missing out.

Now on a side note. Why is ... reporting that this DVD has not been released yet? Their buy page says the release date for this DVD is 6/26/2001 and that is completely wrong! This DVD was released on 10/24/2000 and I already have my special edition copy from last year. Come on, ..., get your information straight!

Summary: Think about it...
Review: "The Sea Turtle and the Shark" by Melvin B. Tolson (1900-1966)

Strange but true is the story

of the sea turtle and the shark-

the instinctive drive

of the weak to survive

in the oceanic dark.

Driven,

riven

by hunger

from abyss to shoal

sometimes the shark swallows

the sea turtle whole

The sly reptilian marine

withdraws,

into the shell

of his undersea craft,

his leathery head and the rapacious claws

that can rip

a rhinoceros' hide

or strip

a crocodile to fare-thee-well;

now,

inside the shark,

the sea turtle begins the churning seesaws

of his decent into pelagic hell;

then...then,

with ravenous jaws

that can cut sheet steel scrap,

the sea turtle gnaws

...and gnaws...and gnaws...

his way in a way that appalls-

his way to freedom,

beyond the vomiting dark,

beyond the stomach walls

of the shark.

Summary: A well-done reminder of what our founders sacrificed.
Review: We loved this movie and feel that every American, especially in these days of creeping-Socialism, needs a good reminder of what America stands for and what our founders sacrificed to win us the freedoms which are now eroding more with each day. The photography is great. The story line believable. Mel Gibson did a very fine job. We would highly recommend this to anyone who loves and appreciates the REAL AMERICA, not the media-corrupted, welfare state. We only noted one disturbing flaw--the appearance of a baby which may have been born out-of-wedlock. Not the message we condone. I hope it wasn't a token liberal act for the benefit of the Hollywood sleeze-factor. I would expect Mel Gibson to be above that kind of pandering.

Summary: Braveheart it is not
Review: While this movie certainly is not Braveheart, it has Braveheart's feel. Loosely based on the life of Revolutionary War guerrila fighter Francis Marion, Bejamin Martin (Mel Gibson) is a veteran of the French and Indian War who takes up arms and joins the Colonists against the British by starting his own militia group after having a member of his family killed and his plantation burned by the English. I cannot think of a better film that better portrays what life in the Colonies was really like during our War for Independence and the sacrfices that were made so that we could be free. My all time favorite movie will always be Braveheart but I think this film is top notch and a long time in coming. I hope this movie sparks interest in American History much like Braveheart did for Scotland, respectively. Its a very good, well made film and certainly worth adding to your video collection.

Summary: Mel Gibson,s Braveheart sequel.
Review: Mel Gibson,s controversial film is beautiful to look at and well made, but Mel comes across as more corny and right wing than John Wayne in this disappointing film. The American War of Independence was a totally justified cause, which influenced the world and helped spread the idea of democracy to other countries (including Britain). George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin, were products of the enlightenment and due to their far sighted views, people from many countries enjoy the freedom they fought so hard for. But this is such a one sided and biased film, that seems to be made just for the film makers anti-English prejudice. The British are made to look all evil and the Americans all good. The slaves are all happy and there,s not a mention of the many native Americans who fought on the British side. Some of the scenes are racist and are the film makers trying to suggest the holocaulst with their church burning scene? During the American War of Independence, many British people supported the American colonists. Prominent politicians did also, such as Edmund Burke and Charles James Fox. While its true that not all British history has been good and there,s plenty we should not feel proud about, can anything than that be said about any other country (including America)? I hope for the day, when a true and accurate film is made about the American Revolution, because this sadly isn't it.

Summary: Three stars are you kidding me?
Review: What else can you possibly want from a movie? This movie has action adventure, it's a little graphic, I'll give you that, but wow on everything else. Movies are for entertainment, to allow us all to fall into a dream, to be part of the action, to feel what it's like to be there. I loved this movie; in fact I bought it for most of my family. I highly recommend this movie if you like adventure and high impact action.

Summary: Great but Unhistorical
Review: This movie is really good: good acting, good special effects, good music, ect. The only problem is there are some parts that are not historical. An example is that the British dragoons wore green, not red and that no British burned a church with the all the townspeople locked inside. Another thing is that they make British Col. Tavington (real name Col. Tarleton) more evil than he really was. True, he did kill Colonist soldiers who tried to surrender, but he did not kill civilians like in the movie. Other than this, it's a great movie.

Summary: Trying to repeat Braveheart - But it hasn't worked
Review: I really looked forward to seeing The Patriot at the cinema, but I'm afraid I went home very disappointed. All the movie was, in truth, was Mel Gibson attempting to repeat the success of 1995 epic Braveheart with an American version, but the quality both in comparison and individually fell short. Of course, the movie was slaughtered in my country due to its negative and evil portrayal of British people, but even after I ignored this irrelevant criticism, I had criticism of my own. The action scenes were impressive of course, and Mel Gibson does seem to be one of the best in the business at bringing an authentic feel of rage and passion into the roles he plays in action movies. I'm not sure just how accurate The Patriot is in terms of historical fact, but there were several parts in it where I remain unconvinced. It's not that I refuse to accept the evil and selfish of the British characters, but the much of the acting and the script left a lot to be desired. Overall I wouldn't recommend The Patriot, and I haven't spoken to one person who has admitted to me they liked it. However, if you are a big fan of historical action, Mel Gibson or are interested in the theme of the American War of Independence, you may well find it an entertaining couple of hours, only don't expect something as good as Braveheart.
