Summary: Darwin's revenge on Moses Best of the series
Review: It is quite a small irony that Charlton Heston (Moses) is the star of this movie. He builds the franchise well as Taylor the self-absorbed commander reduced to animal in a cage. He plays the role well but has plenty of help. Kim Hunter and Roddy McDowall (one of the most underrated actors who have been)and Maurce Evans do their best to steal the show. (Particularly Evans who's proves the screen presence of a great stage actor cuts through any amount of makeup. The passion and interaction of the characters as they argue their cases mirrors the arguements of the times which is one of the movie's strengths. Well shot and quite a spectacle considering the scale of the movie. The franchise that follows never comes to this level and the amount of parody it has spawned doesn't cut it. But this one is a winner. It only remains to see if the remake can match it.

Summary: A sci-fi classic
Review: I won't say too much about the film itself. Every one knows (or should know) that this is one of the best sci-fi movies of all times. I'll comment on the DVD. I live in Argentina and rented this film in Region 1. The transfer was very good, but it was not anamorphically enhanced. Yesterday I bought it on Region 4, and to my surprise, IT WAS ENHANCED FOR 16x9 TVs! The transfer is so much clear and pristine! So why Fox decided to release it on Region 1 just in letterbox widescreen? Will remain a mystery to me... Can't wait for Tim Burton's new vision!

Summary: It's full of quotable material...
Review: Well, while I read the book(you could check my review on it),I didn't really want to see the movie.I prefer to read science fiction. But I did end up watching it and I was impressed. The quality of acting and the make-up of the actors was superb. It is different from the book in a few key points, but it made the movie very good, which isn't how it is usually. Most of the things said are great quotes, and the humor(or is it satire) is sharp. And the ending was great! Except I do not understand what was the logic of putting it on the cover and showing it in the beginning...

Summary: The Perfect Cold War Film
Review: For a little insight into the emotions and feelings of the Cold War, look no further than this film. The ending of course, is anti Cold-War, and the ape society itself is basically symbolic of the Soviet Union, their censorship of ideas that threaten the power. The plot is about the intrepid space explorer Taylor who crashes on a planet, thinking it is alien, he discovers humans are slaves under an ape iron fist. Watching this film is a very interesting experience, it completely reflects the anti-nuke and anti-communism sentiments of the time, and it still maintains hope. The sequels were unnecessary, just stick with this one and you will be fine. -m-

Summary: A pioneer for Sci-Fi movies
Review: Planet of the Apes is a pioneer for Sci fi movies because it showed society that they are fun and thought provoking movies. Planet of the Apes set the stage for movies like Star Wars to become as popular as they are in today's society. As for the movie itself, it is wonderful. I love the cynical Charlton Heston. I think Arthur Jacobs intended to show how wrong discrimination is as the Apes discriminate against the humans. This movie has you thinking a lot especially in the end.

Summary: Heston at his very best!
Review: Imagine a world where chimpanzee's and gorillas dominate mankind? well, I thought you would not!. However, that is exactly the premise of this movie, i.e., Planet of the Apes (Wide screen Edition) VHS ~ Charlton Heston. The script is extremely intelligent and the special effects have not aged with time and for that sake the premise does not sound phony or hokey. Charlton Heston is spellbinding in his performance as the lost space captain and the role of Dr. Zaius is also played with great conviction, determination and resolve that are rarely seen in today's science fiction movies. The ending shot is so loaded that if held in one's hand, one would be afraid that it would explode; finally, I would have to say that I do consider this, i.e., Planet of the Apes (Wide screen Edition) VHS ~ Charlton Heston to be one of the best science fictions movies for all time.

Summary: Even better than the book...
Review: The movie follows the path of human astronauts as they are tossed forward thousands of years into the future. What awaits them as they exit their spaceship is a large group of apes. These are not apes as they remember them, however, but ones which possess great intelligence.

The apes immediately place the humans into confinement and look upon them as mindless beasts. Two of the apes befriend the only astronaut that has managed to avoid the special testing that was performed upon his fellow astronauts by curious chimpanzees and their orangutan superiors.

In the end Taylor, the only surviving astronaut, is able to escape the wrath created by the ape environment only to ride off to find out where it was where he had actually landed.

Summary: A great sci-fi!
Review: This film is definitely the best of the series and has stupendous performances by Charlton Heston,Roddy Mcdowall,Kim Hunter,Maurice Evans among others. This film has an original story and a thought provoking ending which is quite famous in movie history. It also has great make-up considering the time and how hard it must be to make people look like apes.Though there is news about a remake I don't think it could ever surpass the original.

Summary: A True Classic
Review: This film was made when Hollywood had not sold out on all that it felt mattered. This film has action, but oddly enough it also has a plot that is not just thrown in to make the movie get from one explosion to the next. Charlton Heston acts at the top of his form. He has always been an actor who you felt overacted to a certain extent. That works perfectly in this film.

After the unfortunate crash landing, Charlten Heston has to try to find some form of civilized life. He finds humans, but soon realizes that they are the minority. This planet it under the ruling of Apes. Not your variety that are seen at the local zoo. These ones talk and have built a civilization in which the humans are the oppressed, living in the wild, or in cages.

This film works on many levels. It may have the action for those that are concerned with people getting shot and things blowing up, but it also has a plot that is entirely engrossing. The struggle for this lost astronaut is one that is entertaing, and somewhat thought provoking.

Summary: "I'd kiss ya if you weren't so darn ugly!"
Review: The tables are turned as one (hu)man is imprisoned by apes in a futuristic society ruled by primates rather than people. This is a frightening "Twilight Zone"-like premise. We see how these "beasts" have evolved to be the most powerful beings alive, while humans are viewed as primitive "animals". -- I first saw this film as a child and was frightened by it. Now the message it bears is even more disturbing. I caution you to not show this film to pre-teens. This DVD has added perks not featured in the VHS version. Highly recommended for Sci-Fi fans!
