Summary: New type movie!
Review:

HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE is a well-known movie in the world now. This is the story of a young boy named Harry Potter, who is a wizard. When he was a baby, Voldemort killed his parents. So, he was living at his uncle's house. His uncle and aunt are very bad people. Harry is a kind of Cinderella. At first, he didn't know that he was a wizard. But he went to Hogwarts, a magical school, by a strange coincidence. That day was his 11th birthday. He has some friends there. Their names are Hermione and Ron.

At the end of the movie, they had to play chess. They each took the part of chessmen. Ron was injured so Harry could get the sorcerer's stone. After that, Voldemort wanted to kill Harry and take the sorcerer's stone. So, they fought each other. Harry won the battle. But he was injured, too. After he recovered, he returned to his uncle's house.

I didn't learn anything from this movie. I was just excited when I watched it. But I love this story because I have never watched magical stories before. This story is very interesting! Now we can watch Harry Potter's second story in the theater. It will be interesting!

Summary: a testament to mediocrity
Review: I'm usually pretty open-minded, though I tend to stay away from big-budget films and especially over-hyped ones. Nonetheless, when I finally saw this movie on cable the other day, I tried to be unbiased. As I watched I was struck not by how bad this movie is, because it was not awful, but by just how mediocre it is. It looks splendid, the goblins' makeup in particular. Some of the computerized shots suffer from Lucas Syndrome, but it takes CGI technology just about as far as it can go nowadays. Yet film is more than just a visual art, it's also about telling an interesting story involving real and compelling characters. This film lacks both of those key ingredients. The actors work well with what they have (I will not slander any cast that includes John Hurt and Alan Rickman), but an actor is only as good as is material (perhaps that's stretching it a bit, but I think you get my meaning). The filmmakers drag out every rusty old cliche you can imagine, dust it off, slap the name "Harry Potter" on it, and present it here as a brand new product to be consumed and almost immediately forgotten. Character development is nil, for example, it's rather hard to understand what motivates the evil Professor Quirrel to turn against his colleagues in the end. Has he been masquerading all along as a good wizard when he in reality turnd to the "dark side" long ago? Or has he switched allegiances because he's generally looked down upon for being a sniveling twit and seeks revenge? Or is it something else entirely? Perhaps I missed it, but I cannot recall this ever being properly explained. Or what about when the children are punished for breaking a rule by being instructed to break ANOTHER rule by going out into a forbidden forested area, two of them unchaperoned even, and risking their lives? Is that supposed to make sense? The entire film is weakened by non-sensical plot twists and unbelievable characters, but even this is not the weakest point of the film. The fact is, it's a bore. Another long, predictable piece of eye-candy that is, rightly enough, meant for children. Even so, there is no reason children's entertainment has to be this... mediocre. The films I loved as a child didn't suffer these same problems. Nowadays though, you get film after film after film of material of this caliber. And it's evident in modern literature and pop music as well. But now I'm just ranting. Final thought: for family-oriented entertainment of a far superior quality, check out the first two Star Wars films (that is, Episodes IV and V), Raiders of the Lost Ark, How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the animated version), The Nightmare Before Christmas, Something Wicked This Way Comes, PeeWee's Big Adventure, Harvey, A Christmas Story, or The Bishop's Wife (1948) to name a few.

Summary: BORING, BAD ACTING, BAD PLOT!
Review: Can It get any worse?Harry Potter is as convincing as the tooth fare, the story is awfully tiring, the only good part is the quadraball one. This has NO magic other that earning BIG bucks, of course I am almost alone here, maybe due to the fact that many of today's children didn't grow up watching wonders such as : Snowhite and the Seven dworfs, Pinochio, The beauty and the beast, etc...Maybe the Harry Potter producers should have sticked to the cartoon-like movie instead of casting such a horrible set of actors.Oh my God, I hope It stops or improves soon, after all, how much more torture somebody has to endure having to take kids to see such an awful piece, over and over again?

Summary: A great movie from a great book.
Review: I have read the book, and the movie mostly follows it. There are a few slight differences though, but in general it was a great movie with flawless computer graphics and special effects.

The only problem i had was that the movie was based in a place with english accents, and some word choice that might not be heard in the USA threw me off. Such as when Mr Dursely called the mail service "post", whereas in the USA we call it "mail". None the less, still very easy to follow, and they really did a great job with the Twist ending.

Note: This movie is for kids and adults alike.

~hope this helps
