Summary: "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone"
Review: First of all, I must say that I've never read any of the Harry Potter books. I admit I was first a little bit indecisive whether I would like it or not when I entered the movie theater. And I must say, I enjoyed myself through and through! People might say that's it's just for kids but I'm 14 and I went to see the movie with my father and my sister and we all liked it lots!

The story is about Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) who has been living with his Aunt Petunia (Fiona Shaw), Uncle Vernon (Richard Griffiths), and cousin Dudley (Harry Melling) all of his life. Mistreated by his family and always shunned, Harry is surprised to find out on his 11th birthday that he is actually a wizard! And not only a wizard, but is the son of two famous wizards. Led by Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane), Harry is brought to Hogwarts School of Wizardry and is enrolled for his first year. There under the Headmaster Dumbledore (Richard Harris) and Headmistress McGonagall (Maggie Smith), he proves to everyone that he is indeed a great wizard. But with his friends Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson), they find out that strange things are taking place inside Hogwarts which seems to involve the evil wizard, Lord Voldemort (Richard Bremmer), Professors Snape (Alan Rickman) and Quirrel (Ian Hart), and the mysterious sorcerer's/philosopher's stone.

For those who are worried that this movie would be a bad influence on kids, I don't think that that would be a problem. It's just a world of fantasy for everyone and if kids can understand that and that it's just a movie, I'm sure they can handle it.

Even though the movie was 2 and 1/2 hours long, I wasn't bored one minute of the whole movie! It was very entertaining, from the very beginning where Harry Potter receives all of his letters to when he is enrolled into the school, where Harry Potter fights the troll to the part where he finds out about the sorcerer's/philosopher's stone. Every minute will have you enthralled! The F/X are something to talk about to, it was pretty impressive, especially the game of Quidditch. The acting was pretty terrific too, from all the main characters and even including most of the supportive cast, including Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy and Sean Biggerstaff as Gryffindor Captain Oliver Wood.

"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone" did not get any Golden Global Award Nominations but still, it's a pretty good movie from the year 2001's movies.

Oh by the way, here's a little trivia. The reason I keep writing Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone is because I live in Japan. The movie is known as "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" everywhere except the USA and so every scene in which the Philosopher's Stone was mentioned was filmed twice, once with the actors saying "Philosopher's" and once with the actors saying "Sorcerer's". So when I saw the movie in theaters, I watched it as "Philosopher's Stone".

Summary: A masterpiece of amazing proportions
Review: I have read the Harry Potter series many times: I was looking forward to the movie, even though there were some bad reviews. After viewing the movie, I noticed my popcorn and soda had been left, untoached; I was so wrapped up in the events! The special effects were a blast, and the actors were great. I especially loved Severus Snape: the actor and the makeup all put together made such a sinister-looking person! I loved it! There were a few things missing though, like the ghost teacher wasn't in it, and Harry and Hermione and Ron freed the Dragon, and kept it a secret; Dumbledore didn't send it away. But other than that, it was great....

Summary: A book on screen but not a movie...
Review: Among the few things that I had as a problem with Harry Potter besides the missed scenes form the book was the fact that this movie did not feel like a movie. Chris Columbus stood wonderfully true to the VISION of Harry's world, so did Steve Kloves the writer. They did too good an adaptation though, cuase that's what this movie is an adaptation. It's not a movie, Daniel Radcliffe doesn't carry the movie.

They have great supporting actors, that's another problem. The supporting actors are so great the kids are overlooked. How dare they use Alan Rickman so little! All in all, Columbus did a really good job minus a few exceptions he is the only one I can see filming the entire franchise. Also this movie was for readers of the book, not for people who haven't read them. It wouldn't make sense to them. But if you're a reader of the books you'll enjoy this film. (...)

Summary: This will be one of the best fantasy movies ever!
Review: When will "The Chamber Of Secrets" be made a movie?? I loved this movie. When I went to see it, I didn't think it was going to be good but, it was! It follows the book closely but you can't expect EVERYTHING that was in the book to be in the movie! It has wonderful graphics and actors. It brings the book to life. Any Harry Potter fan would enjoy this!

Summary: I am almost crazy for Harry and his good friends.
Review: The movie is very exciting and interesting. I actually don't know how to use my limited English to rate it. I like the colourful clothes of Harry and the food in the dining hall. Harry is so smart and handsome. I love him very much. As from the legend, Harry should be the one who makes great achievements. I really hope that the second movie will be on show by May next year and then the third one by Christmas next year.

Summary: Outstanding!
Review: I'm a 17-year-old senior in high school, and after reading Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" I was dying for some new fantasy books. I had not read Harry Potter yet (I know... a little late...), and so, at the request of my friends, went to see the movie. Those three hours were the greatest three hours of any movie we'd ever seen! The acting is great, after reading the books and looking back, the movie stays very true to the book, the sets are gorgeous, special effects are great... there's nothing bad to say! In fact, after seeing the movie, I went online and spent (...) on Harry Potter merchandise and now my family and I are going to see it (over Christmas vacation). Honestly, if you want a movie that is simply fun (and isn't "deep" like high school english is) go and see Harry Potter.

Summary: Where's The Fistfight ?!?!
Review: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone the movie was like the book in alot of ways.It was also different in alot of ways. I,myself voted this movie 4 out of 5 stars. I would've voted 5 if they(Warner Bros.) didn't take out the fistfight between Draco Malfoy and Ron Weasley at the Quidditch stadium from the book. I was amazed at how the characters looked. They were just how Ms. Rowling described them in the book! The end was the best part when everyone [finally] got to see Vol- oops ,as Hagrid would say "can' tell yer the end"!! Anyway,if you haven't seen Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone yet,go out and see it because Harry Potter and Warner Bros. make a great team! And don't forget if anyone says "Oh,Potter You Rotter"(besides Peeves )they're just a mean muggle or a mad mudblood!

Summary: Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone --- Lovely Movie!
Review: I was never interested in these books, but my friends kept telling me how great they were. I was really annoyed and I thought HP was over-rated.
When I finally read the first book, only to find something bad to annoy my friends with in return, I was happily surprised. This book was nothing like I expected it to be. I was hooked! Harry Potter is such a lovable character that he really makes you to fall in love with him, to care about him. I read all 4 books in a week!

When HP and the Philosopher's Stone was released I went to watch it. And I loved it! The best part was the cast, specially the 3 leading kids. They were perfect! The movie is long but it flows nicely and it never gets boring.

I highly recommend the books and the movie to everyone! Give Harry Potter a chance... believe me, it's worth it!

Summary: Enjoyable but nothing spectactular.
Review: This movie really wasn't anything special. The characters, for one, were plastic and see through, with the exception of some decent acting done by Professor Snape's actor. Harry Potter the kid was just boring and robotic. He showed almost no emotion, and when he did it ended up looking very practiced and planned. People rave about the special effects, but they get old after a while and compared to the effects in other new movies, like Lord of the Rings (which blows Harry out of the water), they're rather cheesy. Voldermort, a promising villian who might have risen to Darth Vader like infamy, was completely ruined and ended up looking goofy and almost humorous. I also have to agree with an earlier reviewer that the movie teaches goodness is born through good genes. Harry Potter and Ron have good parents, so therefore they're good. Lusciuos has a loathsome father, therefore he is loathsome. The story would be more effective if Harry's parents were either losers or villians.
