Summary: Good movie, but don't expect much action
Review: I've never seen the original with Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway so I don't or if it's a good remake. But as a movie on it's own, it is a wonderful movie.

The humor, the action (altough not much) and the wonderful performances of Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo makes this one of the best romantic movies of 1999. It really never gets boring.

If you like good movies without a lot of violence, just watch this one as soon as posssible (on DVD, if you can)!

Summary: Painfull and Tedious Lesson in Gluttony--what a waste!
Review: Essentially a remake of the 1969 Steve McQueen thriller, thisfilm was supposedly closer to the content of the original novel. Italso showed some promise because of its director, John McTiernan, who is known for his share of effective thrillers (Die Hard, Predator, Hunt for Red October.)

The story here is a simple one; Brosnan is a rich executive who grows bored with his excessive wealth, so much so that he ... Rene Russo is a mid-western insurance investigator sent to unravel the mystery of the missing painting. It doesn't take long before she figures out that... By the film's mid-point, the pair are already involved romantically (who is using who?), and as she grows closer to cracking the case, he finds himself offering her several substantial bribes to ... and run away with him. The offer is tempting, only because she suspects he's really a lonely man and is sincere with his romantic overtures.

Sounds more interesting than it really is. Very little happens in this movie that we haven't seen already in much better films. Russo's character works with the New York Police on this case, but they seem to offer little to her investigation beyond stereotypical movie badgering. Brosnan offers even less to this part beyond staring off into the distance and squinting a lot. So far, the range I've seen him exhibit in his big screen offerings have been two: passive disinterest and aggressive disinterest. Maybe women find him charming, but I have yet to what would qualify him for a more masculine, tough role such as James Bond.

And Rene Russo? She looks great here, but it isn't long before the story requires her to begin inserting gratuitous topless scenes. So we get Rene topless on a marble stairway...Rene topless in a beach-front house ...Rene topless on a cold beach where the temperature seems to be hovering near a chilly 50 degrees. It's too bad that a script that should've called for a sophisticated, elegant woman was reduced to a 1970's soft-core drive-in role. For that, McTiernan should be sucker-punched.

And corporate sponsorships aplenty--this movie is full of them! One scene has everyone stopping dead in their tracks while Rene empties a can of PEPSI-ONE in one guzzle! (Man, look at that babe drink!) There's even a nifty boat race that seems to be sponsored by Lucent Technology (as apparent by the huge, painted banner.) It's not bad enough these corporate tools cause aggravation in my daily life -- now I get to go cheer them on in their latest big-screen adventure!

All in all, a lackluster film, filled with performances by people who truly didn't seem particularly attracted to each other, as they skirt around exotic locations and eat better foods and wear finer clothes than I'll probably experience in my lifetime. Watching this movie didn't make me feel anything except maybe a little contempt for being an American. That's something I never want to feel, and certainly don't want to pay good money to experience. END

Summary: Definitly a must see!
Review: ...this movie is fantastic and has an excellent plot. Two fine actors(Brosnan and Russo) did an excellent job in this film. The title may sound a little boring, but the movie is truely fantastic! I rated it 5 stars for terrific acting and a fun, interesting, and exciting story-line! It otherwise is definitly a "must see"!

Summary: Very good movie, but don't expect much action
Review: I have never seen the original movie "The Thomas Crown Affair" with Faye Dunaway and Steve McQueen, so I don't know or if this movie is a good remake. But just to watch it on a Saturday evening, this is a wonderfull movie.

Altough there's only in the beginning and the end an action scene, this movie keeps interesting all the way trough. It never really gets boring. And that's because of the genious ways how Thomas Crown (Pierce Brosnan) breaks in the museum in the beginning and the end of the movie and the humor now and then.

After I read some things about the original movie, I know that this second version is complete different. But, who cares? Just watch this movie as soon as you can on DVD.

Summary: Great flick...a must see
Review: This movie should be titled "How To Be A Pimp starring Pierce Brosnan" I haven't seen the original, but this movie was excellent. I'm not a big Renee Russo fan, but she is simply awesome in this film, and I'm not saying that just because she's more than just scantily clad for half the picture. It's a great DVD; a must have for any collection.

Summary: A True Rarity
Review: This is the first movie out of Hollywood in years that is mature, intelligent and pure fluff. It doesn't pound the audience over the head with any kind of important theme or message, like so many other movies out there that tries to be grown-up, and it never seems to insult the intelligence of the audience, which for an important movie is rare, and for a fun movie is almost unheard of.

The characters seemed right for each other; both of them tried outsmart the other, acknowledged each other as intellectual equals on opposing sides which lead to admiration and sexual attraction. When Rene Russo's character is analyzing the theft and determing the method, she is impressed by the style, the cleverness of the crime and becomes attracted to the criminal because of his cleverness. She never is outraged by the crime, but instead is turned on by it -- here, at last, is a worthy adversary, someone she can have fun chasing.

John McTiernan's directing is very stylish, as usual, and suits the material very well, forming a symbiotic relationship with Pierce Brosnan's and Rene Russo's performances. A genuinely entertaining movie. Rent it or buy it and have a good time.
